[Bug 1388817] Re: Backlight brightness problem with Thinkpad T440S

2014-11-04 Thread Jingguo Yao
Please ignore my #4 and #5 comments.

With the use of v3.18-rc3-vivid, for the following problems:

1. After every boot, the brightness is set to maximum.
2. The brightness can't be adjusted smoothly. Only 4 brightnesses can be
achieved with Fn keys.
3. After recovering from screen dimming and system suspend, the brightness is
set to maximum.
4. The following error message is printed during the boot:
thinkpad_acpi: Unsupported brightness interface, please contact
ibm-acpi-de...@lists.sourceforge.net

2 and 3 are fixed. But 1 and 4 still exist.

[Bug 1320659] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E430] "thinkpad unsupported brightness interface" message is showing while booting up

2014-11-02 Thread Jingguo Yao
I also have this problem. I am using Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit with a Thinkpad
T440S.

At the beginning, I have the following four problems:

1. After every boot, the brightness is set to maximum.
2. The brightness can't be adjusted smoothly. Only 4 brightnesses can be
achieved with Fn keys.
3. After recovering from dimming, the brightness is set to maximum.
4. The following error message is printed during the boot:
[ 12.843633] thinkpad_acpi: Unsupported brightness interface, please contact
ibm-acpi-de...@lists.sourceforge.net

The following workaround fixes 1 for me.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/151651/brightness-is-reset-to-maximum-on-every-restart

I add "acpi_backlight=vendor" kernel parameter according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight. This fixes 2 and 3
for me.

But 4 still exists.

[Bug 896595] Re: Ubuntu does not remember LID brightness

2014-11-02 Thread Jingguo Yao
After recovering from screen dimming, the brightness is set set maximum
for my case. For this problem, I follow the instructions in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight. After adding
"acpi_backlight=vendor" kernel parameter, the problem is fixed.

But during the boot of Ubuntu, I still get the following error message:

thinkpad_acpi: Unsupported brightness interface, please contact ibm-
acpi-d...@lists.sourceforge.net.

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit with a Thinkpad T440S.

This still happens on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit. I am using Thinkpad T440S.
