[Bug 153322] Re: Confusion between virtual desktops and viewports

2007-10-23 Thread Jo Vermeulen
This was also what caused problems on my system. I had
number_of_desktops set to 4 as well as hsize set to 4 (probably some
setting that was still in there from Feisty). This caused the workspace
switcher applet to crash once in a while, and be really slow when
clicking on different workspaces (well, actually desktops). Also, when I
switched with Ctrl+Alt+left or Ctrl+Alt+Right, the workspace switcher
wasn't updated, since I was still on the same desktop.

Having set number_of_desktops to 4, it works again ...

[Bug 268506] [NEW] Cannot configure Synaptics TouchStyk settings (e.g. sensitivity, tapping, press/select)

2008-09-10 Thread Jo Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

Although GNOME now has a preferences window for configuring the behavior
of the Synaptics touchpad, there is no dialog for configuring the
behavior of the TouchStyk (similar to IBM's TrackPoint or more generally
referred to as a pointing stick).

The Synaptics driver on Windows allows me to configure the pace of the
TouchStyk, which is by default too slow in Ubuntu in my opinion.
Furthermore, I can enable features such as tapping to perform a left
mouse click, and press/select which allows me to select text using only
the TouchStyk. I believe even scrolling should be possible.

Is there any way to configure this in Ubuntu? Even granted that this is
possible, I believe users should be able to alter the default
configuration in a graphical way.

Bug #251121 seems to report something similar (but in this case with an
ALPS touchpad/trackpoint).

Thanks in advance! I greatly appreciate the fact that laptop support is
getting better and better on Ubuntu, but of course to get it really up
to par with Windows and Mac OS X, we should keep reporting these things.

2008-09-16 Thread Jo Vermeulen
I have the same problem with an ATI Mobility 2600 HD card, on Ubuntu
Hardy Heron (laptop is a HP 8510p).

Glxgears and screen savers flash black every few seconds. With Glxgears

between windows as I enabled focus follows mouse).

Attached is my Xorg.0.log. I seem to get lots of messages like:

Any ideas? Could this be a hardware problem? I can of course try running

[Bug 270850] [NEW] Mono or related development packages (e.g. Monodevelop) do not depend on binfmt-support anymore

2008-09-16 Thread Jo Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

I installed mono-2.0-devel and other packages to be able to compile .NET
applications, but those didn't pull in binfmt-support, which allows .NET
applications to be started from the shell directly. Without binfmt-
support, you need to use "mono myapp.exe" instead of "./myapp.exe".

Even after installing Monodevelop, binfmt-support was not pulled in. Any
ideas why this changed? As far as I know, in previous releases this
package got automatically installed as well.

Thanks!

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2008-09-08 Thread Jo Vermeulen
I have the same problem on a HP Compaq 8510p. I found it strange that
the default settings were to "Do nothing" when battery power is

Unfortunately this does not work, it just keeps going until the battery

I'm running the latest Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64 with kernel 2.6.24-19-generic.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Is this a known issue?

By the way, I also set the action to "Suspend" when the laptop lid is

@joakim, so in fact I can just wait for a few days and then it should

2008-09-09 Thread Jo Vermeulen
Joakim, thank you very much for the detailed reply.

I also found out suspend after closing the lid does work after all (I
just didn't wait long enough).

I hope your patch (or maybe a more polished version) will get integrated
in the next release. Do you have a package for this, or is there an easy
way to apply it (sorry, I'm a dpkg rookie)? Otherwise I'll just wait for
a while, I can live with it if will work eventually.

But you are right, it is really bad for new Ubuntu or Gnome users, so it
should be resolved as soon as possible. In my opinion the fix should
even be pushed as an update in the official Hardy Ubuntu repositories.

Manager? Should I reset this value once the bug gets fixed?

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2008-09-08 Thread Jo Vermeulen
@joakim, so in fact I can just wait for a few days and then it should
work again? So it's then probably also better to check
use_time_for_policy again.

Or do I need your patch to get this working?

If this is true, then probably this is not a bug after all (and it
should be marked as such).

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

[Bug 268506] [NEW] Cannot configure Synaptics TouchStyk settings (e.g. sensitivity, tapping, press/select)

Thanks!

I found it strange that
the default settings were to "Do nothing" when battery power is
critically low, so I changed it to "Hibernate".

Unfortunately this does not work, it just keeps going until the battery
is drained.

I'm running the latest Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64 with kernel 2.6.24-19-generic.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Is this a known issue?

By the way, I also set the action to "Suspend" when the laptop lid is
closed. This does not work either.

Done, will see what it does when the battery runs out again. Is this caused
by a broken ACPI as suggested by gconf-editor, or a bug in Gnome Power

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2008-09-08 Thread Jo Vermeulen
@joakim, so in fact I can just wait for a few days and then it should
work again? So it's then probably also better to check
use_time_for_policy again.

Or do I need your patch to get this working?

If this is true, then probably this is not a bug after all (and it
should be marked as such).

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

Glxgears and screen savers flash black every few seconds. With Glxgears

between windows as I enabled focus follows mouse).

Attached is my Xorg.0.log. I seem to get lots of messages like:

[Bug 270850] Re: Mono or related development packages (e.g. Monodevelop) do not depend on binfmt-support anymore

2008-09-22 Thread Jo Vermeulen
Ah I see. Well I use Synaptic and aptitude to install packages. Maybe
aptitude did not pull in the recommended packages.

[Bug 223712] Re: FGLRX jerky on Hardy Heron

2008-09-16 Thread Jo Vermeulen
I have the same problem with an ATI Mobility 2600 HD card, on Ubuntu
Hardy Heron (laptop is a HP 8510p).

Glxgears and screen savers flash black every few seconds. With Glxgears
it seems to get worse if I move the mouse around (switching focus
between windows as I enabled focus follows mouse).

Attached is my Xorg.0.log. I seem to get lots of messages like:

(WW) AIGLX: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x23

Any ideas? Could this be a hardware problem? I can of course try running
some OpenGL application on Windows.

Thanks!

I'm just using the standard emacs-snapshot Ubuntu package. If there's a bug
in that one, shouldn't a fix get pushed as an update?

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2008-09-08 Thread Jo Vermeulen
I have the same problem on a HP Compaq 8510p. I found it strange that
the default settings were to "Do nothing" when battery power is
critically low, so I changed it to "Hibernate".

Re: [Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2008-09-08 Thread Jo Vermeulen
Done, will see what it does when the battery runs out again. Is this caused
by a broken ACPI as suggested by gconf-editor, or a bug in Gnome Power
Manager? Should I reset this value once the bug gets fixed?
