[Bug 1815046] [NEW] Onboard Virtual Keyboard crashes KDE Plasma

2019-02-07 Thread Joe Linux
Public bug reported:

Onboard completely crashes KDE Plasma. It has happened before, I
thought it was corrected, but then the crash is back when trying to
select a French accented "e". It crashes the entire desktop, and you
are brought to the login screen.

[Bug 484244] Re: Cannot choose ISO image when disc inserted in CD drive

2018-12-29 Thread Joe Linux
I have the problem of not being able to select an .iso with usb-creator
0.3.5 with Kubuntu 18.10. This is extremely frustrating.

You go the iso you want, try to select it, but nothing happens. I was
able to create one USB stick for Elementary OS, but with other
distributions I have no luck. I have no idea why one distribution can
be selected, but another cannot.

[Bug 1066278] Re: Usb-creator does not select ISO for creating USB key

2018-12-20 Thread Joe Linux
I have this problem with Kubuntu 18.10. I checked the permissions, and
the iso is owned by me and my group. Because I can't select the iso I
can't make a usable USB distribution stick. I am able to create USB
sticks on another computer running and earlier version of Linux Mint and
USB-creator.

[Bug 943210] Re: Startup Disk Creator doesn't work in guest session

2018-12-19 Thread Joe Linux
My problem is usb-creator doesn't work in Kubuntu 18.10. It fails to
select the.iso file. Actually this problem is the same in the gnome
version running on Kubuntu. Actually the two versions look very much
the same, and have the same fault, which is it's impossible to create a
USB stick with a distribution on it.

[Bug 577513] Re: Startup Disk Creator behavior

2018-12-19 Thread Joe Linux
I don't know exactly where to post my concern, but Start Up Disk Creator
does not work with the latest release of Kubuntu 18.10. It's impossible
to select an .iso file. To make a bootable USB stick. I have to use
Linux Mint on another computer to create USB sticks. It's quite a
nuisance.

[Bug 1672465] Re: Onboard doesn't work in Wayland

2018-12-05 Thread Joe Linux
I don't know if I'm running Wayland, but it is the most recent version
of Kubuntu as it comes out of the box. Unfortunately Onboard crashes
the entire desktop. If you try to type one Onboard french character,
the desktop turns black and you eventually are brought to the login
screen and have to login with a password. I hope this can be fixed as
Onboard is very important to me.

[Bug 1401792] Re: nvidia-331-uvm 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.4: nvidia-331-uvm kernel module failed to build

2015-07-19 Thread Joe Linux
Hello Folks,

This is occurring all the time with each and every single kernel auto update.
This is just nightmare since months and months!
This is affecting all my Ubuntu 14.04.x LTS distributions including Studio as
well. LTS is supposed to be the most stable Ubuntu version. So, what the non
LTS could be!

THE solution is more than the welcome. Seriously thinking to give up and
move definitively all my machines (with Nvidia) to an other major
distribution where the developers are understanding what they are doing
and the issue the users are facing to.

Thanks. Joe

Fortunately this version is a LTS one, if not guess what.

[Bug 1401515] Re: nvidia-331 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.4: nvidia-331 kernel module failed to build

2014-12-11 Thread Joe Linux
Hello Everybody,

I confirmed I got the same problem just now.

I'm running a full install since April 2014:
- Release: Ubuntu 14.04.1 (trusty) - update from 14.04
- Gnome: 3.8.4 (Ubuntu 2014-03-17)
- Kernel: 3.13.0-32-generic (#57-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 15 03:51:08 UTC 2014)
- GCC: 4.8 (x86_64-linux-gnu)
- Xorg: 1.15.1 (09 December 2014 11:14:53PM)
- Operating System: Linux-x86_64
- NVIDIA Driver Version: 331.113 (previous was I think 311.48)

One or two day ago, it was an update of the proprietary nvidia driver to
311.113 and everything went well.
This evening a new update and I got the error message in the message title.
I have not rebooted yet, so I don't know if after that my system will be still
running or not !

Thanks (not for the PB but the solution).

[Bug 1265883] Re: [PC HP Split 13-m103es x2] New Synaptics Touchpad v103S doesn't work

2014-08-17 Thread Joe Linux
Hello,

I have the same issue on my new Hybrid Ultrabook, the HP Spectre
13-h201ef x2 with a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04.1 64-b in dual boot
with Windows 8.1 Update 1.

Under Ubuntu, my Synaptics Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response
from the Touchpad) and I referred to the following Ubuntu document:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection to try solving the
issue but with no success.

* DebuggingTouchpadDetection *
In case your Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response from the Touchpad)
This is generally a case of a kernel (linux) or xorg bug. Check by connecting
an external mouse to see if that works or not.

2. If yes, execute at a terminal:
cat /proc/bus/input/devices

One should see:
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1
N: Name=SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
P: Phys=isa0060/serio2/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input8
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse2 event8
B: EV=b
B: KEY=420 0 7 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
B: ABS=1103

If you do not find something like this (which is my case), then the bug is in
the linux kernel. Please follow these steps:
File the bug against the linux package.
Provide the general information.
Enter the following commands in a terminal:
dmesg ~/dmesg
cat /proc/bus/input/devices ~/devices
Attach as separate attachments to your bug report ~/dmesg, ~/devices, and your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Here attached the first dmesg file I have done on my HP Spectre 13 x2.
The two other are following.

My kernel version is 3.13.0-34-generic and my system is up to date.

Thank you for your help.
Cheers.

wired Ethernet alternative on my PC, due to seems to be a misleading
issue between acer-wmi and hp-wmi!

I tried to issue an apport-collect 1305522 report as mentioned in the first
post but I'm getting the following error window (in french):
Vous n'avez pas rapporté ce problème ou n'y êtes pas abonné, ou le rapport est
un doublon ou déjà fermé.
Veuillez créer un nouveau rapport en utilisant « apport-bug ».

So I'm requested to create a new report using apport-bug. But how to use
this stuff?

Thank you.
Joe

[Bug 1305522] Re: Backport Synaptics HID touchpad driver for 14.04

2014-07-31 Thread Joe Linux
Hello,

I have forgotten to say that an external USB mouse is working well when
the touchscreen both docked and undocked has some missing capabilities
as the scrolling.

Now, I'm getting the following in a terminal on my HP Spectre 13 x2 with
Ubuntu 14.04-1 64-bit and Kernel 3.13.0-32-generic:

joe@PC-Joe-S13x2:~$ xinput --list

Re: [Bug 671893] Re: Rhythmbox 0.13.1 Radio list empty after I entered a new radio

2010-11-09 Thread Joe Linux
Bonjour,

1. Yes, it is reproducible.
2. I have properly uninstalled RB using the Ubuntu Software Center
(USC), rebooted my PC and used the same USC for reinstalling RB.
When opening RB, the default Radio list was empty. So, I entered manualy
2 French radios (url) and worked fine.
But I closed RB and when reopening RB within the same session, the Radio
list was again empty.
I have tried several time using either USC or Synaptic, both leading to
the same bad result.
So, at least on my HP Pavilion DV8-1190ef, this issue is reproducible
very simply.
3. Now for listening Internet radio, I am currently using Radio Tray
(0.6.1) which works fine.

If you need further data, don't hesitate.
Thank you for taking time to improve Rhythmbox.
Regards.

[Update on F14: Re: [Bug 671893] Re: Rhythmbox 0.13.1 Radio list empty after I entered a new radio]

2010-11-09 Thread Joe Linux
Hello,

I have some more news for you...
Always on my DV8, as I have multiple-boot: Several Windows and several
Linux distros, I went to Fedora 14 64-bits and ran Rhythmbox 0.13.1.
I do the same than very 1st time under U10.10 64-bits but under F14
everything was working properly with RB.
I was able to add few Radio's URL, to test them without any issue. Close
and reopen RB and still working and having your original Radio list plus
mines.
Great!

So, it seems the issue is with U10.10 64-bits and ? But I am not enough
specialist to forsee where the issue could be...

If you need further data, don't hesitate.
Regards.
Joe.

[Bug 517045] [NEW] OOo 3.1.1 crashes under Ubuntu 9.10

2010-02-04 Thread Joe Linux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Since yesterday trying to open a given .ODT file with OOo 3.1.1 leads to a OOo
crash under Ubuntu 9.10. I never had such a problem since 3 years I am using
Ubuntu / OOo.
Just prior to this main issue OOo closed by itself when working on this new
.ODT file which I was able to save several times when working with it.
Now each time I am opening OOo, OOo is first trying to repair this new file but
even if OOo is saying it was repaired (tried more than 10 times) nothing is
hapening; i.e. no OOo launch or it is so quick that OOo opens et closes
very-very quickly.
If I am first launching OOo, OOo is trying all the time to repair this given
file and if I cancel this work OOo opens correctly and I can open all my other
.ODT files.
So it seems my concern is with this given new file (spent few hours to build
it) of about 12 pages for 1.8 MB with formated text and embedded pictures (so
with a very classical content).
My main issue is I cannot get back the unique content of this file and second
OOo is acting with a strange behavior.
Thanks. Cheers.

[Bug 59409] Re: Fax PPD not installed by default

2009-10-31 Thread Joe Linux
Hello there,

I read above with interest, BUT...
Note: My HP Officejet Pro L7590 is connected to my LAN.

1- In my previous Ubuntu 9.04 after having installed HPLIP (v. ?) from
Ubuntu depositories, launched it and used its Device Manager - Setup
Device... I was able without any problem to detect my Officejet - both
Printer and Fax - and then to use both fonctions during 6 months without
any problem and trick to implement. GREAT!

2- Now, I just have installed the new Ubuntu 9.10 which run perfectly. I have
done as per above installing HPLIP (but now v. 3.9.8) from Ubuntu repositories.
When trying its Device Manager - Setup Device... My OJ is well recognized (HP
Officejet Pro l7500 HPA31632 hp:/net/Officejet_Pro_L7500?zc=HPA31632) and
then ONLY the Printer driver is proposed ready to be installed.

= PB: For the FAX, I am getting the following message: HP Device Manager -
Setup. Unable to locate the HPLIP Fax PPD file - HP-Fax.hpcups.ppd.gz. Fax
setup has been disable!.
Trying to go further reading thru HPLIP web site, I have red this version of
HPLIP (i.e. v. 3.9.8) needs at least CUPS v.1.2 when Ubuntu 9.10 is only
proposing and installing CUPS v.1.1.12! and with no update.

What do you thing? How can I fix this/my Fax issue? Is it Ubuntu 9.10 / HPLIP
3.9.8 issue or specific to my PC?
Thank you. Cheers.
