[Bug 732653] Re: Menus are hidden by default

2013-08-11 Thread JoeR
I converted Grandma to Ubuntu 12.04.I thank the whole linux communit
for an amazing product. This bug of hidden menus is perhaps the worst
bug I have ever seen. Grandma worked on IBM systems in the '70's and
she's used DOS, and Eudora on Windows 3.1 and on up. Grandma says this
is, quote the most frustrating part of any computer I have ever used.
It seems that someone with power has abused it, and made their personal
agenda of hidden menus more important than basic UI testing. While
this bug is about hidden menus that should be on by default, it is also
about the diminishing importance of users in the direction of Ubuntu.

[Bug 1173372] Re: apt-get hangs: DKMS: install completed.

2013-05-03 Thread JoeR
The link URL below is bad advice. Ubuntu 12.04 does not work by
default with my wifi hardware, and I follwed this documentation below.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx

The result of the above documentation is
a) lock on apt-get ( fixed by using the RM command )
b) still no wifi, can only use ethernet cord

[Bug 1173372] Re: apt-get hangs: DKMS: install completed.

2013-04-30 Thread JoeR
I don't understand how this can be labeled as not a bug

Here's the summary:

new fresh system install, update software, install one official package,
now the system for adding packages is no longer functional. This is
100% reproducible.

Could someone please define the official meaning of a bug for the ubuntu
developers? How was that decision made?

Re: [Bug 1173372] Re: apt-get hangs: DKMS: install completed.

2013-04-29 Thread JoeR
Launchpad will not let me file this bug with a target package.
I attempted but failed to set the target
The web interface for launchpad suggests ia32-apt-get and then rejects that
suggestion when I click Save changes.  Here's the quote:  there is no package
named 'ia32-apt-get' published in Ubuntu.
So please fix launchpad so I can properly set this bug target to the
package=apt-get
Once launchpad is fixed, the bug can be investigated.

[Bug 1173372] Re: apt-get hangs: DKMS: install completed.

2013-04-29 Thread JoeR
I'm the author of this bug. Here are updates

The bug reporting system (launchpad) is buggy and It's hard to obey all
the rules from the people who make the rules for reporting bugs.

a) I did attempt using the tools alt+f2, then ubuntu-bug -w, and that
failed, and mis-reports the bug is with terminal. The bug is with apt-
get run inside terminal

b) I did attempt to follow the documentation on launchpad, and that says
to manually report the package target and distrubtion, which I did
attempt, and launchpad did not save.

c) I did attempt to re-update the proper bug target, and then the error
message shows up. The web interface for launchpad suggests ia32-apt-
get as a bug target, and then when I try to save my update, launchpad
rejects that suggestion Here's the quote: there is no package named
'ia32-apt-get' published in Ubuntu.

As I reported, the bug result is a locked out error on any more attempts
at apt-get.

Here are more details of that lock, below

id@id-laptop:~$ sudo -s
[sudo] password for id:
root@id-laptop:~# apt-get clean
E: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (11: Resource
temporarily unavailable)

root@id-laptop:~# apt-get autoremove
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily
unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another
process using it?
root@id-laptop:~# apt-get update
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily

E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily
unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another
process using it?
root@id-laptop:~# apt-get upgrade

==

In conclusion

a) ) first I would love a workaround to get apt-get working and my wifi
working

b) then fix launchpad so people can report bugs without a huge burden

c) then lets fix this bug so no workrouand is needed.

Thanks. J
