2024-03-17 Thread Joerg Leonhard
I just checked: I cannot reproduce the effect with linux-
image-5.4.0-173-generic, i.e. the mentioned problem seems to have been

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

After attaching a Mediatek mt76x2u based USB Wifi network adapter the
system (Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS linux version 5.4.0-58-generic) hangs

  My findings after some testing:
  - A freshly installed Ubuntu 20.04 (for testing purposes) with an outdated
kernel 5.4.0-26 is not affected as the USB Wifi network adapter works without
any problems.
  - After updating this system to kernel version 5.4.0-58 the problem can be
reproduced.
  - After upgrading to Ubuntu 20.10 with kernel version 5.8.0-33 the USB Wifi
network adapter works without any problems.
So I guess it could be a software problem (maybe linux-image oder
linux-modules?).

[Bug 1803604] Re: [upstream] "Send -> Document as e-mail" in Writer / Calc does not work

2020-12-21 Thread Joerg Hoffmann
It works under Ubuntu Linux 20.04 as well. Unfortunately only if you
"disable" the apparmor rules for senddoc or set it to "complain" mode.
In this mode the rules are not blocked, but they are logged.

I have not yet figured out how to functionally adjust the rule so that
it also works in "enforce" mode.

Maybe someone knows better about this.

The rule can be put into complain mode with the following command (at
your own risk).

aa-complain usr.lib.libreoffice.program.senddoc

[Bug 1905136] Re: libreoffice doesn't decrypt my gpg encrypted files

2020-11-23 Thread Joerg Leonhard
I use the build-in function "Save as..." -> "Encrypt with GPG key" to
encrypt the file.

But after saving I can't open the file anymore.

As i am curious I tried to open the file with libreoffice on Windows
(after setting up gpg :-) and it works fine. So I draw the conclusion
that decryption might be broken in the ubuntu-package.

[Bug 1905136] [NEW] libreoffice doesn't decrypt my gpg encrypted files

2020-11-21 Thread Joerg Leonhard
Public bug reported:

- Encrypting files with gpg key works
- Decrypting does not work, as libreoffice asks for the password but always
prompts "wrong password"

(Decrypting the file with libreoffice on Windows does work, so I guess
the setup of gpg and the password is correct)

[Bug 1881355] Re: Game freezes on screen resolution change.

2020-07-10 Thread Joerg Baeuerle
I have the same problem with Ubuntu 20.04.

My workaround is to set the screen resolution by editing ~/.d2x-
rebirth/descent.cfg manually.

The problem that my Gnome desktop resolution is screwed up after exiting
the game, remains, though. I have to log out and in again in order to
restore the screen resolution.

[Bug 1874578] Re: [wayland] dock has very long load time

2020-05-16 Thread Joerg Baeuerle
I also have the problem, that icons in the dock have a delay of 25
seconds between program start and dock update.

This is a fresh install of 20.04 LTS on a clean laptop with a wiped hard
disk.

schorsch@jbook:~$ lsb_release -a

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release: 20.04

The only thing I did after the new installation was installing the dash-
to-panel Gnome extension. Once, I deactivated that extension and the
Ubuntu Dock showed again, I noticed the delay. However, I cannot say for
sure if the delay has been there from the beginning.

I completely removed the dash-to-panel extension using apt, but the
Ubuntu Dock delay is still there.

Also, the 'gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock show-
mounts false' thing did NOT work in my case. The dock still has the
delay.

I have the same problem with a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS release
on a Dell Latitude E5440 with Intel Wireless 7260.

Also, the wifi connection is quite unstable and would sometimes freeze

ERROR: Values added to a non-existing variable @{HOMEDIRS}:

In fact, this bug was the origin cause of multiple packages failing to upgrade
when switching to eoan.
It puzzles me, that this was not detected within release testing and is not
getting more attention by the developers.

[Bug 1825846] [NEW] mythweb interferes with apache config

2019-04-22 Thread Joerg Delker
Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
mythweb: 2:29.1+fixes.20180414.329c235-0ubuntu3

When installing or updating mythweb, the post-install performs certain
apache modifications, that are potentially harmful and not according to
debian/ubuntu guidelines.

Issue:
On any post-install action originating from a install, update or
dpkg-reconfigure, the packages creates a file
/etc/apache2/sites-available/mythweb.conf and enables this configuration with
"a2ensite" (which effectively symlinks it to /etc/apache2/sites-enabled).
While this may be confortable for unexperienced users, that do not care about
their apache config, this is actually causing a lot of trouble in more
sophisticated apache environments.

1. The config generated ("mythweb.conf") is no site-config (containing no
virtual-hosts). Thus it belongs to /etc/apache2/conf-available rather than
/etc/apache2/sites-available).
2. The config is forcefully enabled on every post-install run (incl. updates!),
regardless of whether the system admin decided (for whathever reason) to
disable the mythweb configuration or handling this in a different way. In fact,
mythweb is enabled for every (!) site (virtual-host) served by apache this way.

I would suggest the following changes:
- Please honor Debian's way of configuring apache and create the mythweb
configuration in /etc/apache2/conf-available.
- Do not re-enable this config on any update or reconfigure, if it was disabled
before. Prefered alternative: Provide a debconf option, that disabled any
apache configuration entirely.

** Affects: mythweb (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I don't know. I just got this T520 and put 14.04.03 on it. Swapped the
SSD with a harddisk containing 16.04 for testing. So I've seen this bug
with these kernel versions only:

- 3.13.0-86-generic x86_64 (Ubuntu 14.04.03)
- 4.4.0-21-generic x86_64 (Ubuntu 16.04)
- 4.6.0 (vanilla)

@Joseph
I've already tested it with a vanilla 4.6.0 kernel, see posting #1.

@Christopher
Good point! I've updated the BIOS to the latest version:

root@x61:~# dmidecode -s bios-version && dmidecode -s bios-release-date
8AET65WW (1.45 )
05/14/2015

but unfortunately the bug remains.

If you are willing to compile the 4.6.0 kernel from the sources, you might try
my patch

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1583750/+attachment/4666376/+files/0001
-e1000e-added-more-error-output-during-probe.patch

which adds some error output to the e1000e driver. I wonder if you'd get
the same line

[ 7900.183212] e1000e :00:19.0 :00:19.0 (uninitialized): Failed
to acquire the semaphore, FW or HW has it: FWSM=0x6040

[Bug 1583750] [NEW] 8086:1502 e1000e driver failed with error -3

2016-05-19 Thread Joerg Albert
Public bug reported:

When I switch on my laptop, running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS amd64, it will boot
and load e1000e, but no eth* interface is present. Even repeated rmmod
and modprobe don't bring up the interface. After a restart (i.e. no
fresh power-up) it works just fine. After the next power-cycle the
problem is there again. Laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T520 (Optimus
graphics).

joerg@x61:~$ sudo dmesg | grep e1000e
[1.622695] e1000e: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver - 2.3.2-k
[1.622697] e1000e: Copyright(c) 1999 - 2013 Intel Corporation.

[2.673058] e1000e: probe of :00:19.0 failed with error -3

Same error happens with a vanilla kernel 4.6.0:

cat /proc/version
Linux version 4.6.0-jal2+ (root at x61) (gcc version 4.8.4 (Ubuntu
4.8.4-2ubuntu1~14.04.1) ) #4 SMP Mon May 16 01:06:19 CEST 2016

dmesg | grep e1000e

[2.106194] e1000e: probe of :00:19.0 failed with error -3

Afterwards I've added some error output and changed some debugs into
error prints in the e1000e:

[Bug 1576953] Re: 8086:153a e1000e driver failed with error -3

2016-05-17 Thread Joerg Albert
As I couldn't see any posting from Diego in the intel-wired-lan mailing
list during the last two weeks, I've sent a bug report both to Jeff
Kirsher and the mailing list:

http://lists.osuosl.org/pipermail/intel-wired-lan/Week-of-
Mon-20160516/005381.html

(I couldn't find any nicer online archive of the ml, the archive linked
above is week-based. So any reply later than one week will go into
another URL :-(

Connection (rev 04)
(8086:1502)

with the official kernel 4.4.0-22-generic #39-Ubuntu

[Bug 1297218] Re: guest hangs after live migration due to tsc jump

2015-09-03 Thread Joerg Schumacher
Thanks for looking into this. We started experimenting with live
migration on 14.04 and stumbled over this bug. As a workaround we've
installed qemu from the Ubuntu Cloud archive
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/CloudArchive). I can confirm this
bug is fixed in

qemu-kvm:amd64/trusty-updates 1:2.2+dfsg-5expubuntu9.3~cloud0

An SRU for 14.04 would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1429275] Re: Thunderbird does not open http URL anymore with Firefox v36.0

2015-03-07 Thread Joerg Albert
It seems like editing /usr/share/xfce4/helpers/firefox.desktop fixes
this bug (as suggested in
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1080319#c39); not only for
thunderbird, but also for xfce4-terminal and apport-bug. Redirecting
this bug to the package libexo-helpers and marking the other two as
duplicates.

[Bug 1429293] [NEW] apport-bug fails to open the launchpad site

2015-03-06 Thread Joerg Albert
Public bug reported:

When my system-wide preferred webbrowser is configured to firefox,
ubuntu-bug (aka apport-bug) fails to open the launchpad site after
pressing Send. I get an empty firefox window instead.

I guess this is caused by the decision to remove the -remote option in
Firefox 36.x (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1080319) and
related to similar bugs in thunderbird
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1429275) and
xfce4-terminal
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-terminal/+bug/1429284).

[Bug 1429275] [NEW] Thunderbird does not open http URL anymore with Firefox v36.0

2015-03-06 Thread Joerg Albert
Public bug reported:

In Firefox the -remote option was removed in version 36.0
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1080319).
Unfortunately the current Thunderbird in Ubuntu 14.04 still uses this option.

When I click on an http URL in a email an empty Firefox windows opens
and ps reports a firefox instance with -remote OpenURL(...).

[Bug 1429275] Re: Thunderbird does not open http URL anymore with Firefox v36.0

2015-03-06 Thread Joerg Albert
Prereq to reproduce this bug:
- firefox must be the default browser in the system (calling ubuntu-bug changed
this ...?)
- no instance of firefox is running before I click on the URL in the email in
thunderbird

Then an empty firefox window opens and I see with ps

joerg@quad:~$ ps aux | grep firefox

[Bug 1429284] [NEW] xfce4-terminal fails to open http url after right-click+Open Link

2015-03-06 Thread Joerg Albert
Public bug reported:

When I right-click on an http url in the terminal window (the url got
underlined, i.e. recognised) and choose Open Link from the context
menu, an empty Firefox window opens. Firefox is configured as my
preferred webbrowser application.

This seems to have the same root cause as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1429275, i.e.
in Firefox 36.0 the -remote option was removed.

[Bug 1313200] Re: package squidguard 1.5-2 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-06-15 Thread Joerg Delker
When upgrading to trusty, this error has hit me, too.

After some investigation I figured that there are some flaws in
/usr/sbin/update-squidgard, which is called during the configure phase
on install/update.

1) update-squidguard calls a su - proxy squidguard ... at the end to rebuild
the database.
This fails with
Rebuild SquidGuard database - this can take a while.
This account is currently not available.
That's no surprise because the proxy user was created previously with
proxy:x:13:13:proxy:/bin:/usr/sbin/nologin
The invocation of su checks for a valid shell, which /usr/sbin/nologin
isn't.

2) update-squidguard tries to restart squid at the very end, but actually fails
to do so, because it checks for appropriate init.d files.
With squid3 (3.3.8-1ubuntu6) there aren't any, because this package is already
upstart enabled.

[Bug 1124250] Re: Partially incorrect uid mapping with nfs4/idmapd/ldap-auth

2014-01-01 Thread Joerg Delker
I was encountering the very same problem in an identical environment (nfs4 and
LDAP based nameservice) but on DEBIAN (!).
Since I was not able to find any relevant bug reports within the Debian bug
tracking system, I was very delighted to find someone having the same problem
and reporting it here.

Following this and another bug report I found at RedHat
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876705), I placed the
following kernel parameters configuration:

in /etc/sysctl.d/nfsv4_idmap_maxkeys:

  # NFSv4 idmap entries are counted against a very low quota
  # https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876705
  kernel.keys.root_maxkeys = 1000
  kernel.keys.maxkeys = 1000

After activating that with sysctl the problem was gone with my
installation.

[Bug 1124250] Re: Partially incorrect uid mapping with nfs4/idmapd/ldap-auth

2014-01-01 Thread Joerg Delker
For your reference:

before applying the fix in comment #9 the keys seem to be saturated (199/200).
(That was after ls -al in a nfs4 mounted dir with ~500 different owners)

# cat /proc/key-users
0: 204 203/203 199/200 6275/2

After enabling the new key quotas it showed:

# cat /proc/key-users
0: 516 515/515 511/1000 16185/2

[Bug 1245979]

2013-12-19 Thread Joerg-schuck
@Bernd: Can't confirm that theory, unfortunately. The problem is
occuring on my systems at random. I look at my Arch box and dbus-daemon
has the PID 837 while akonadi_control has 1059 and akonadiserver1061 and
still it fails to start any agents at random.

And i still have a mysqlcheck zombie process lurking about. So far only
the manual shutting down and restarting fixes it.

[Bug 1013106] [NEW] package man-db 2.5.7-2ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript mit Signal (Speicherzugriffsfehler) getötet

2012-06-14 Thread Joerg Muehlisch
Public bug reported:

I was asked to send to send a bug report. I have no idea whtat this bug
is about.

Nevertheless I have difficulties in updating the system via the server for
germany, but was successful using the main server.
Afterwards I got this problem report.

Before I had difficulties with firefox that crashed repeatedly shortly
after starting on different accounts using different pages (allowed
reports to be sent to mozilla).

Therfore I checked the memory using memtest that showed 48 errors for
test 7. After reinstalling the memory about three errors remained that
did not show a reproducible location. One occured in test 8.

No other problems with the system are observed and the problem are
restricted to this system and do not extend to the system on a different
computer this system was cloned from using
http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Ubuntu_umziehen.

Let me know, If you need any further information

[Bug 876397] [NEW] Evolution crashes with segmentation fault after upgrade to 11.10

2011-10-17 Thread Hans-Joerg von Mettenheim
Public bug reported:

Release:11.10
evolution 3.2.0-0ubuntu2

Evolution running smoothly in 11.04. After upgrading to 11.10 the
calendar view in evolution is very slow to respond. When scrolling the
calendar view (either by using the middle mouse button or the scroll
bar) evolution will crash very often (although not always), see attached
gdb output.

Expected behavior: scrolling the calendar view in evolution should be
fast and responsive and should not cause the program to segfault.
