[Bug 1133490] [NEW] Xorg crashed with SIGABRT

2013-02-26 Thread Johan Thorén
Public bug reported:

This bug has been haunting me for a couple of weeks now.

It happens only sometimes when I interact with tabs in Firefox or
Chrome/Chromium (all three tested, both stable and beta), about 3-5
times per day.

What did I do before the crash:

Interacting with tabs, creating new on, closing existing or clicking on
active to change focus.

What should happen:

The browser should follow with the appropriate action, such as starting
a new tab, closing the one I clicked on or changing focus to the one I
clicked on.

What does happen:

X shuts down and kicks me out to the lightdm login screen.

Is this Unity related:

No, the same problem exists within Awesome WM.

Extra information:

* Using 2 SSD disks with full disk encryption.
* Using SNA and TearFree options to have totally smooth video playback.

[Bug 944949] Re: Applications disappear when using alt+tab to change active window.

2012-11-09 Thread Johan Thorén
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 772063 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772063

I am not sure that this is correctly marked as a duplicate. Today I made
a fresh install of 13.04, and the problem occured in a couple of hours.

I posted a video to show the problem in action.

This time it is Firefox that is "lost". Notice in the video how the
launcher still shows the firefox icon as running, however the
application is nowhere to be found when using alt+tab.

Testing in Ubuntu 12.10 (Daily), the problem seems to be gone. I can not
reproduce it running native Unity with 3d.

Abiword 2.9.2+svn20120603-2.

I have noticed that this bug does not always appear, even if it still
makes for the majority of times I launch it. I have yet to figure out
why it sometimes work correctly, but still nothing concrete.

[Bug 993624] [NEW] Openttd does not use the global panel menu when maximized

2012-05-02 Thread Johan Thorén
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Launch Openttd from dash, as any other application.
2. Maximize the window using the maximize button, or by double clicking on the
window bar.

What happens?

Openttd does not fully maximize and does not blend with the global
panel. Two bars are visible, occupying more space than needed.

What should happen?

Openttd should maximize fully, using the global panel as window bar.

Note:

This is not related to playing in fullscreen, which works just fine
afaik. This is just concerning maximized mode.

[Bug 988808] Re: Lightdm fails to restart after logout

2012-05-01 Thread Johan Thorén
I have reinstalled my system, this time without encryption on my home
folder, and with ext4 instead of btrfs and the problem is no longer
present.

I tried to reproduce the error on a virtual machine, but it does not
appear in Virtualbox. I tried with btrfs, ext4 and with and without
encryption.

I might set up another partition later to recreate it on my system.

[Bug 988808] [NEW] Lightdm fails to restart after logout

2012-04-26 Thread Johan Thorén
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Log into any desktop environment upon boot. (I have tried with Unity,
Unity2d and GNOME Classic).
2. Use the GUI to logout. (Clicking the gear in the top right corner, choosing
Log Out...)

What happens?

Lightdm fails to restart. The screen shows a black terminal screen with
messages that usually flashes by during boot.

What should happen?

Lightdm should automatically restart, showing the login screen.

Extra information:

Using ctrl+alt+f1 to log into a console works. Doing sudo service
lightdm stop followed by sudo service lightdm start just moves focus to
the black screen with the boot messages, but lightdm does not start. I
have to issue sudo reboot to restart the computer to be able to login.

[Bug 988485] Re: Abiword is slow to update the document when typing

2012-04-26 Thread Johan Thorén
I have not found any other application, editor or word processor that
has the same problem. Only Abiword so far.

The problem is still there in GNOME Classic with compiz, but not as
much. There is a distinct difference between running the application
maximized and windowed under classic GNOME. The lag when I type is not
as visible, but moving the cursor with the keyboard still lags heavy
when maximized, not so much in windowed.

[Bug 988485] [NEW] Abiword is slow to update the document when typing

2012-04-25 Thread Johan Thorén
Public bug reported:

When I write any text in Abiword, there is a slight lag before updating
on my screen.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Abiword
2. Press any keys in rapid succession, for example 123.

What happend:
1. 123 appear on screen, but with a slight lag. Instead of printing 1 then 2
then 3 at the pace I release the keys, the program lags for a split second and
then print "123" as if it was in one stroke. It feels like the lag is somewhere
around .5 seconds.

What should happen:
1. The text 123 should appear without any lag, and at the time every single key
is released.

Using gedit, libreoffice or googleoffice (or any other program) I get
the expected result.

I noticed that the problem is less when not having the window maximized.
For example:

When pressing and holding the arrow key in maximized mode, the marker disappear
until I release it, having traveled down the line without showing me how the
marker jumps over the letters.
When doing the same thing i a smaller sized window, the marker is visible the
entire time, showing me how it jumps over the letters.

This suggests that the problem might in some way be related to Unity.

here as well.

[Bug 944949] Re: gnome-terminal crashes silently when i switch to another program

2012-04-23 Thread Johan Thorén
This exact thing happened today with an up-to-date ubuntu 12.04
installation, this time with Chromium. However, I am still not sure
exactly how to reproduce this.

I did however notice one thing. When the first Chromium window closed, I
clicked the icon to start a new one. When I alt-tabbed, that one closed
as well. So I started another one. I repeated this a couple of times. I
then forced a lightdm restart by pressing ctrl+alt+1 and running sudo
service lightdm restart. When the restart happened a bunch of chromium
windows flickered by, closing as the force quit was taking effect.

It seems like the applications actually never crashed, thus not
triggering apport to create a report. Instead, they seem to have been
lurking around outside visible space.

So, it seems more like Unity is to blame than any one application.

If I figure out a sure way to reproduce the steps - I will get back.

If it should happen again, is there a log file I can upload where unity
could have left a clue to what's happening?

** Summary changed:

- gnome-terminal crashes silently when i switch to another program
+ Applications disappear when using alt+tab to change active window.

[Bug 944949] Re: gnome-terminal crashes silently when i switch to another program

2012-03-02 Thread Johan Thorén
Update: This seems to be a bug in Unity, not in gnome-terminal. After a
reboot this problem now applies to Rhythmbox instead. So, I suggest that
this bug should either be merged or cancelled.

After reboot the problem is gone, for now at least.

I might add that I am using an own made colour theme in gnome-terminal.

[Bug 944949] [NEW] gnome-terminal crashes silently when i switch to another program

2012-03-02 Thread Johan Thorén
Public bug reported:

I launch gnome-terminal via the unity icon that I have created. I then
switch focus to for example Chromium and the gnome-terminal window is
closed without me closing it.

I also noticed that even when I still have the gnome-terminal window
active, it does not show in the application switcher from alt+tab.

The same problem occurs both when I launch a command in the terminal
prior to changing focus, as well as when I don't.

[Bug 862469] Re: gnome entirely freezes when using search bar

2011-10-12 Thread Johan Thorén
I have now tested to revert to the default theme, and it seems to solve
the issue. Any third party theme I have tried shows this fault.

If I restart lightdm to load a new session, gnome-shell will use 100%
cpu. The problem occurs 100% of the times I try to search in shell mode.
