[Bug 1973306] [NEW] packages freezes on authentification with Wayland
Public bug reported: I want to report an issue which might well have been reported already, although i could not find it. A few weeks ago I switched from Ubuntu LTS 20.04 towards the LTS 22.04 with Wayland as default. I discovered that there is a sort of incompatibility between the software-properties-package and the Wayland protocol, which occurs systematically and never occurs when switching back to Xorg. When one tries to add or change a rule in ‘other software’ the application always freezes when the user is asked to authenticate. As soon a one cancels the authentification procedure it unfreezes almost immediately, but freezes again when the user retries to complete the adding or alteration procedure. As said, this error never occurs if the user switches back to an Xorg session. See screenshot: the window with the communication 'software & updates does not respond' and with the choice to close or to wait is hidden behind the authentification window. I am not really sure whether this bug has to be reported as a security issue, but certainly the software-properties-package is of utmost importance for a stable and secure OS. [Bug 1069757] Re: [Upstream] Libreoffice: problems with saving docs to directories of Windows networks (through samba-connection)
Great job, Björn! Fortunately, there's only a few days left before the release of 13.04. I sincerely hope that the other problems I had with LO within Ubuntu will also be resolved. [Bug 1103420] [NEW] LibreOffice Base does not work at all with Ubuntu QQ!!
Public bug reported: Since I work with Ubuntu 12.10 I have serious problems with LibreOffice. I already reported bugs regarding the menu line and regarding the use of files with smb. This one is the most critical though. It regards the Database app of LO (Base). This one is very critical, since I cannot use Database at all, nor for working with existing databases (created in LO before in Ubuntu environment 12.04 or earlier), nor for creating new databases. I don't really understand the reason, but from the error messages it seems that the application does not find Java running, hence it could be linked to the OpenJDK Jave of Icedtea Java or any other Java-tool used by the standard Ubuntu OS. I will describe to cases: (a) using an existing database with Base and (b) trying to create a new database. (a) using an existing database. Open LO, choose Database. It opens the Window 'guided creation database'. I choose 'open existing database' , then Open, then search one of the existing databases with the extention odb. The database opens with a grey screen. When I try to move to 'tables', I get an error message, stating that it is impossible to create a connection to the database and that it is impossible to find a Java installation with the advice: verify your installation (see attachment 1, error message in Italian). When clicking on the button 'more' (più) one gets two new error messages. The first one repeats the general message that it is impossible to establish a connection (see attachment 2, message Italian), the second one repeats the message that no Java installation has been found but adds 'Stato SQL: HY000' (see attachment 3). No tables are shown. One can see queries, forms and reports created before, but of course one cannot open these items, since they cannot connect to the data in the table(s). (b) creating a new database. Open LO, choose the button Database. It opens the window 'guided creation database'. I choose 'create a new database. Push the button 'avanti' (next) then I confirm the default choices, register the database and open the database in order to modify. I can now give a name to the database and save it. Then the database opens, immediately showing an error message, which is exactly the same as the first message shown in (a) with exactly the same underlying messages. These three messages are her included as attachments 4, 5 and 6. I wonder whether other users have the same problem. I would like to know whether there are work-arounds available (e.g.installing 'real' Java) and whether it would be better to downgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS which was really stable and satisfactory. Quantal has made LibreOffice almost completely unreliable for professional use. In order be able to continue to use my databases I need to use another computer with Windows XP [ :-(( ] with LibreOffice 3.5.6.2 ( I don't upgrade the LO package because I don't want to run the risk of not being able to open my databases on any platform anymore). The windows computer I referred to has a Ubuntu 12.10 dual boot version installed alongside. This Ubuntu installation gives exactly the same problems, for which I think that more users could be affected by this bug. [Bug 1069757] [NEW] Libreoffice: problems with saving docs to directories of Windows networks (through samba-connection)
Public bug reported: At the office I use my Ubuntu computer as a work station and connect it to our Windows network by establishing Samba (smb) connections. In this way I can not only use the print facilities but also use directly the network directories for opening, saving of documents. Since ubuntu 12.04 directories of windows networks have been integrated in the procedure for opening, saving of documents in Libreoffice. Directories available through open samba-connections thus are integrated in the list of directories on which docs can be saved. This was a great new features, since before 12.04 one had to save files on a local directory first and then move or copy them to the windows directory in Nautilus. After having done the upgrade to ubuntu 12.10 QQ this facility does not work as it should. The network directories are still shown and it it still possible to open a document. But is it not possible to save it and giving it another name. Another thing which had become impossible is to open a document from another source than the network directory (e.g. local directory, attached doc to a mail) and save it in a directory of the network server. When doing this the system gives the information 'Error saving the document #name#. The file does not exist' (see screenshot 1, text in italian). If one then presses the OK-button there is a second error communication with the following text: Error is saving the document #name#: General Error Generel I/O error (see screenshot 2, text in italian) I have checked whether the same kind of error also occurs in other programs, at least in Evince (pdf-reader). This is not the case. A last issue I want to report is that when one opens a doc (e.g. odt) from a network directory, modifies it and then save it, this seems to work. There is no error messsage. When checking by re-opening the saved document, in a few experiments I did the modifications were not saved. In nautilus the date indication of the file also remained the same. In other experiments however the saving of the documents with the modifications seemed to work as it should. conclusion: the integration of network directories in LO has become unreliable, with a high risk of loss of information for the user. [Bug 1069008] [NEW] main menu on top bar doesn't appear
Public bug reported: When opening a file with LibreOffice, e.g. text file, in Ubuntu 12.10, quite often the main menu on the top bar doesn't appear at the right sight of the symbols for closing, minimizing and maximizing the active window. Thus it is impossible to manage the file, for instance to save it with another name, to insert, format etc... Sometimes the menu appears after a period of time, sometimes it seems to never appear. The only thing one can do is to close and re-open until the menu finally appears. This problem occurred only after having upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10, not before. The problem is shown in the screenshot I attach to this report. One has to look at the bar where pointer is situated. Normally a menu list has to appear with File, Modify etc... but there is nothing. [Bug 877448] Re: Problems launcher with LibreOffice
To point (c) it should be added that the lack of indication of an active window of LibreOffice on the button of Unity (i.e. absence of little arrows) is connected to a second problem: one cannot open a second window by going to the Unity button and clicking on it! The button starts flashing but stops after a while without producing any kind of result. I have a second computer on which I installed 11.10 and checked I checked it on the occurrance of the same problems. [Bug 877448] [NEW] Problems launcher with LibreOffice
Public bug reported: There are several problems I want to report, problems which occurred after upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10. They are all related to LibreOffice and the integration of this application with the OS, esp. Unity. (a) if I try to integrate soffice (i.e. overall screen which shows all LibreOffice components) as a button in the launcher (by dragging from list in dash), it fails to show an icon. Thus it remains a black space, which runs as a link though. Subsequently, when clicking on the black space with the rightside mouse buttonthe normal dark little window opens but does not show the name of the application, which normally is the case (e.g. LibreOffice Writer - Firefox Browser Web) (b) when closing a document in any component of LibreOffice (writer, calc etc...) by clicking on the X at the right top corner, normally the application always turns to the soffice survey page with all components. This page now is very instable: parts of the closed page are still visible at the side and bottom of the sreen. Moreover when starting from soffice, the screen has not its normal lay-out (white rectangle on a grey-blue background). The background turns to white at both sides and at the bottom of the screen. (c) more disturbing is that when opening a document in one of the LibreOffice components, the launcher fails to indicate that a window of the application is already active (little arrows at the side of the launcher buttons). Thus one can lose track of an opened document, which can cause problems (erroneous cancellation, doublework etc...) (c) with maximised windows of LibreOffice components (soffice, swriter etc...) often fails to show the three symbols to close, minimize and maximise', the only possibility to close the application is throug the menu of the application itself (File - Exit) (d) Sometimes a document in one of the LibreOffice components is active, but if we activate the launcher by moving the mouse to the left screen side, it doesn't show the icon of the active application. It just doesn't seem to be there. If I'm not mistaken, this problem has already been reported by others as well.
