[Bug 1938857] [NEW] nginx serves wrong site while config is being reloaded

2021-08-03 Thread Johannes Rohr
Public bug reported:

We have a cronjob that regularly regenerates vhost configs from a
template, renews certificates and reloads nginx.

Lately, we are frequently seeing an error where during a short window,
nginx serves the wrong site & certificate are served by nginx. For
instance, I see this error log entry:

2021/08/04 06:53:19 [error] 2296834#2296834: *618991 connect() failed
(111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream, client:
2604:a880:400:d0::1d78:1001, server: onlyoffice.*.org, request: "GET
/wp-login.php HTTP/1.1", upstream: "http://[::1]:8910/wp-login.php";,
host: ".net"

The domain which is served in place of the one which was requested is
NOT the default server, instead, it is one whose config hasn't been
regenerated because it has a custom config that is exempt from being
automatically regenerated.

Again, this erroneous behaviour seems to last only for a very short
while, but this is enough to e.g. cause a Nextcloud client to complain
about the wrong certificate and stop synchronizing.

- So this is obviously a btrfs bug that got introduced by the newer btrfs
- code in the newer kernel, although, booting an older kernel didn't fix
- it. Apparently something about the fs is messed up now and no balance
- can be run. The only temporary remedy I found was to add the
- skip_balance mount option to /etc/fstab, but of course, this is a
- crutch, and when you can't run balance, then the fs is bound to run out
- of space at some point.

Unfortunately, producing the logs apart from the backtrace above isn't
really possible. As soon as I reproduce the bug, the FS becomes
unwritable, so that no logs can be obtained. That's a catch22

So this is obviously a btrfs bug that got introduced by the newer btrfs
code in the newer kernel, although, booting an older kernel didn't fix
it. Apparently something about the fs is messed up now and no balance
can be run. The only temporary remedy I found was to add the
skip_balance mount option to /etc/fstab, but of course, this is a
crutch, and when you can't run balance, then the fs is bound to run out
of space at some point.

[Bug 1879132] [NEW] flatpaks not in search results when snap plugin is installed

2020-05-17 Thread Johannes Rohr
Public bug reported:

without the snap plugin being installed, a search for e.g. zoom,
telegram or signal returns the respective flatpaks. With the snap plugin
installed, all flatpak results are suddenly hidden, I get *only* snap
results for the same searches. Flatpaks only appear in the "installed"
tab. Whether or not this is no purpose, this is inconvenient. You don't
what to have two different app stores (gnome-software and snap-store)
installed in parallel, when a single one could be doing the job.

[Bug 1685946] [NEW] Mismatch between declared and actual encoding in mail notifications and web pages

2017-04-24 Thread Johannes Rohr
Public bug reported:

This is about 2.1.22 in Ubuntu Yakkety. mailman is configured with
German (de) as default language and the templates for German and English
are generated.

For some reason, the notifications and web pages in German are all
encoded in latin-1, while the declared encoding both in mail
notification as well as in web pages served is utf-8. This result in
broken display of umlauts until one manually changes the encoding.

See https://lists.uferwerk.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/

I have tried to manually enforce UTF-8 by adding

 add_language('en', 'English (USA)', 'utf-8', 'ltr')
 add_language('de', 'Deutsch', 'utf-8', 'ltr')

We see this misbehaviour since we migrated mailman from one server running
Ubuntu 14.4 with mailman 1:2.1.14-3ubuntu0.4 to another server running 16.10
with mailman 1:2.1.22-1ubuntu0.1

On the old server, it worked just fine without any additional tweaking
and on the new server, not tweaking seems to change anything at all.

In the mailman error log I see recurring error messages of the sort:

  Apr 24 15:10:19 2017 (898) list: mitglieder: can't decode "Liste fr
Mitglieder der Uferwerk e.G." as utf-8
 Apr 24 15:10:19 2017 (901) list: mitglieder: can't decode "Liste fr
Mitglieder der Uferwerk e.G." as utf-8
 Apr 24 15:10:20 2017 (901) list: mitglieder: can't decode "Liste fr
Mitglieder der Uferwerk e.G." as utf-8

I am not sure why these descriptions were suddenly in latin-1 but I manually
converted them to utf-8 now, restarted mailman, and the situation remains
unchanged: Both the overview page and the mail notifications are in latin-1
while the headers declare that they are in utf-8, which results in broken
rendering of the text

This bug will soon celebrate its first birthday. Is it really that
difficult to fix and to upload what appears to be a maintenance release?

[Bug 359981] Re: Translations missing in Adobe Reader

2013-03-01 Thread Johannes Rohr
I think Adobe has dropped the translations a while back , so there is
not much one can do about this. Generally, they seem to be abandoning
Linux. Adobe Air for Linux was discontinued, Flash for Linux no longer
being developed, Adobe Reader X was never released for Linux, no 64bit
version of the reader... I

so this bug should be retitled and reassigned accordingly. During the
upgrade process, existing /dev/shm entries in fstab need to be taken
care of.

[Bug 1062754] Re: plymouth does not ask for password for crytsetup disks - after upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10

2012-10-08 Thread Johannes Rohr
Hi, it seems that the issue is actually different: There is actually an old
entry in /etc/fstab that goes
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0

Somehow, mounting this tmpfs fails, obviously because, I have noticed
/dev/shm is now a symlink to /run/shm

[Bug 951555] Re: When using lightdm X starts in low-graphics-mode

2012-08-21 Thread Johannes Rohr
Indeed, this issue is caused by wrong permissions.

in /var/lib/lightdm/x-0-greeter.log it said:

** (process:2235): WARNING **: Error reading existing Xauthority: Error opening
file: Permission denied
Error writing X authority: Error opening file '/var/lib/lightdm/.Xauthority':
Permission denied

And indeed, For some unkown reason, the files in /var/lib/ligthdm were
owned by user speech-dispacher, group rtkit. After changing the owner of
the files inside the directory to lightdm:lightdm, things work just
fine.

The point is that this was repoducible. Somehow the lock file was left

Which other bug report refers to the same issue? Is it #714088 which
seems to be the only other recent high importance bug reported on gnome-

Why did you mark this bug invalid? If it is a duplicate, you should mark
it a duplicate. At present, this does not seem to be the case.

However another bug, namely bug #725903 is marked a duplicate of /this/

[Bug 516520] Re: pam_unix(gdm:auth): conversation failed

2010-04-07 Thread Johannes Rohr
I did something as close as you can get to a complete reinstall: I
purged everything except for the bare minimum (those packages on which
ubuntu-minimal depends on), next I cleaned up the /etc dir and removed
all config files which had no owner and did not belong to an installed
package, including, of course, the gdm subdirectory. Next I installed
ubuntu-desktop. At first, it seemed fine, I could log on. The next thing
I did was to run language-selector to get the localisation back (in
installed the de languages packages) and I followed the suggestion to
install the nvidia proprietary drivers (which btw failed).

Now, upon reboot, I was back in the same old mess: I was unable to log
on, gdm went into the same loop as before I did the cleanup. So this
appears to be something serious and reproducible, deserving some real
dev attention, else who knows how many people will be affected one 10.4
get out of the door officially?

same here on Jaunty, using UDP connection, static key., tap device. BTW,
in that case the plugin should not ask for a remote IP, instead, openvpn
expects the netmask. Actually, both the local IP and the netmask can
also be requested via DHCP from a DHCP server on the other side.

Therefore, the whole interface is quite confusing and prone to provoke
errors.

And, yes, on the command line openvpn works just fine for me.

[Bug 378635] [NEW] cannot make shared calendar available for offline use

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-exchange

When I select the properties of a shared exchange calendar and click
"make calendar available for offline use", the "O.K." button will
suddenly become greyed out and I am unable to apply the change. If
there is a technical reason, why evolution is unable to do so it should
at least pop up a note informing me. As it is now it drives me mad. but
of course the only real fix would be to make this function available (as
well as to fix the whole offline behaviour of evolution with regards to
exchange servers. At the moment this is a pain in the back, but this is
a separate story

I have yesterday removed, and just now re-added fusa to the menu. The

needs to be fixed!

[Bug 343219] Re: Adding Fast User Switcher applet causes shut down options to disappear from System menu

2009-04-18 Thread Johannes Rohr
My 2¢, about what the problem is:

1. FUSA is part of the /default/ panel config in Ubuntu, meaning that it
is made harder for people who want or have to use the keyboard to
execute shutdown, reboot and so forth after a fresh install. You have to
opt out of it, not opt in. Also, you have to know in the first place,
that it /is/ a separate component that can be removed, and you also have
to know that this is the way to make another, more accessible logout
dialogue magically appear. No new user will be aware of this.

2. I actually want to have FUSA. I find it hard to accept that I should
have to remove it to get a working system menu back.

3. It is counterintuitive to have the shutdown and reboot command under
"user", as they do not shutdown or reboot the user but the system.
Therefore its only /logical/ place for people to look for it is the
system menu.

[Bug 343219] Re: Adding Fast User Switcher applet causes shut down options to disappear from System menu

2009-03-31 Thread Johannes Rohr
I also find it somewhat counterintuitive to have shutdown, hibernate,
suspend and reboot in the fusa applet. This looks as if it was to shut
down or reboot the user not the computer.

[Bug 350790] [NEW] fails to play sound when pulseaudio is running and xine backend is used

2009-03-29 Thread Johannes Rohr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: miro

This is about miro 2.0.3 in Ubuntu Jaunty.

since I upgraded to jaunty, miro fails to produce any sound output when
the xine backend is used and pulseaudio is running. Other xine based
applications like totem-xine work fine.

I have tried various solutions, including creating a virtual alsa device
"pulse" in asoundrc, using padsp, editing ~/.xine/config, however, to no
avail. miro has no xine config file and offers no command line options
for the xine audio driver.

(At the same time (this would be a separate bug) with gstreamer, miro
fails to create thumbnails for videos and shows only the generic icon.)

When I start a video, miro plays it, but without sound. In paman, I see
"python2-6." in the client list. In Miro, clicking on stop has no
effect, it just continues. When I kill the client in paman, the video
playback stop.

[Bug 350495] [NEW] shutdown, restart and hiberate should go back to the system menu

2009-03-28 Thread Johannes Rohr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

The menu items "shut down", "hibernate", "suspend" and "reboot" should not be
in the menu of fast-user-switch-applet. They do not shut down or reboot the
user but the system. The only menu items that make sense her is switch and log
out.
Reboot, shutdown and suspend should go to the system menu, as they reboot,
shutdown or suspend the system, not the user. Else we are ending up with a
situation which is as illogical as the "klick start to shut down" on windows.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 307425] Re: beagle support missing

2008-12-12 Thread Johannes Rohr
I understand that building against libbeagle-dev introduces a dependency
on libbeagle only, not on beagle itself.

Installed-size of libbeagle is only 151k, so I think this is entirely
tolerable.

nautilus built against both tracker and beagle works just as well when
beagle is absent. Actually, up to 2.22, Ubuntu shipped nautilus with
beagle support enabled.

[Bug 307425] [NEW] beagle support missing

2008-12-12 Thread Johannes Rohr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Intrepid, nautilus 2.24.1 is built without beagle support. I don't
know if I'm the only one, but I prefer beagle over tracker, because it
is much more advanced and universal. therefore I would kindly request
you to bring beagle support back, which requires no more than adding
libbeagle-dev to the build-depends
