[Bug 1298160] Re: Midnight Commander fails to open

2014-04-16 Thread John Hill
All I did was input the following lines in to Terminal

#!/bin/sh
echo "$@" > ~/roxterm-log
exec /usr/bin/roxterm.bak "$@"

I don't understand about making some executable!
You will need to be explicit with command line directions. I'm a Linux newbee.
roxterm-log is in my home directory - but it contains nothing.
The Menu shows Terminal however Roxterm is no longer available!

I can load MC from XTerm via System Tools

[Bug 1298160] Re: Midnight Commander fails to open

2014-04-14 Thread John Hill
The only roxterm files in /usr/bin/ are: roxterm and roxterm-config. if a log
was generated where would it be?
Had a look at roxterm-config with nano - nothing in it.
Had a look at roxterm.bak with nano - and it is full of giberish, well
giberish to me, certainly not plain text.

[Bug 1307337] [NEW] Solitaire - loss of control panel and game

2014-04-14 Thread John Hill
Public bug reported:

Aisleriot 1:3.2.3.2-Oubuntu1
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS
Release:12.04
Lubuntu LXLE

Initially both versions of AisleRiot and FreeCell Solitiare when opened from
their icon in Games, opened a small game window with a control panel at the
top. You then choose to go full screen which occurs with the control panel in
tact.
Recently both versions, when opened from their icon in Games, open to a full
screen - but without their control panel.
You can play that game, but thats it. If you don't get it out you can't select
another game, your stuck between a rock and a hard place as "they say".
The only way to get out of the game is to use Ctrl Alt Del then shut it down
from the bottom panel.

It is consistantly repeatable, unfortunately.

[Bug 1296497] [NEW] Lubuntu 12.04.3 won't shut down ASUS desktop

2014-03-23 Thread John Hill
Public bug reported:

PC won't shut down from the GUI Shutdown selection, nor will it Reboot from the
GUI either.
Lubuntu shuts down, monitor goes blank but PC continues to run. The power
button has to held in for a few seconds to get the PC to shut down. The PC is a
Gigabyte Technology Co H81M-D2V.
The Reboot function results in the Lubuntu shut down but there is no reboot.
The PC has to be manually shut down via holding the PC power button pressed in
for a seconds. Then after a short delay represssed to initiate the reboot.
At this stage I haven't tried any of the current command line suggested fixes.

[Bug 1164206] [NEW] 3.2.0-39 crashing

2013-04-03 Thread John Hill
Public bug reported:

I'm making this report from 3.2.0-38 which works fine. I attempted to
report from 3.2.0-39 but just I submitted the report the PC crashed, my
10 minutes were up! So there maybe mutiple reports from me.

There were 49 updates of 8.7 MB associated with the update to 3.2.0-39

The crash occurs 10 minutes after booting and occurs every time without
fail. On one occassion I received a Check signal message, on all other
occassions it was a black screen, PC power supply indicator flashing and
no indication the HDD was functioning.

It's not a software problem - but an operator problem, calling the wrong
page of the chart data.

Too much Xmas cheer!!!

[Bug 501497] [NEW] Chart creation & data range function inoperative

2009-12-29 Thread John Hill
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I used Ubuntu 9.04 and its Open Office Cals to generate a number of charts
successfully. Following installation of Ubuntu 9.10, I can no longer generate
an effective chart - using the Insert Chart and then input Data Range. The
`chart` doesn't relate to the data range at all. For example, a chart that
should show a stock price of 500 - 600 cents on the Y axis shows a range of 0 -
1.0. On the X axis is should show the dates - but shows nothing! And there is
no graph - even when I manually change the the Y axis range to the correct
range of 500 - 600.
I've tried with numerous sheet names, with new pages - and the results are the
same. A total waste of effort and time. Nearly pushed to go back to XP Pro!!!
A check with the Help info confirmed that the technique I was using was
correct.

This problem is present on my Medion 96105 laptop, my desktop running a
AMD Athion and another desktop running an Intel processor.

Cheers John
