[Bug 991590] [NEW] plasma-desktop crashes in odd states

2012-04-29 Thread John Jasen
Public bug reported:

Often, when the system is sitting idle, plasma-desktop will hang or
crash completely.

On occasion, if I have a terminal window open, I can recover by starting
plasma-desktop at the command line.

Other times, it will require switching to a virtual terminal and killing
X completely.

The problem will include loss of window management functionality, fonts
washed out or not rendering correctly, and/or loss of the taskbar.

Infrequently, I get plasma-desktop crash reports. I will attempt to
collect one if possible next time.

I've had this problem since kubuntu 11.10, and it has been present in
the kubuntu-ppa releases. It does not appear to be something in my kde
configs, as I've started fresh twice now.

Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

ii plasma-desktop 4:4.8.2a-0ubuntu4

** Affects: kde-workspace (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
