[Bug 856098] Re: Message appears at an early stage of the installation saying that user does not have permission to open a temporary file
It couold not exactly be described as a dialogue. An (apparently empty) nautilus window opened, and the error message appeared superimposed on that window. The interruption appeared immediately before the stage at which you are invited to open a wireless data connection. Dismissing the error message and closing the window allowed installation to proceed normally. There is a complicating factor, in that the interruption appeared on three separate machines (desktop, laptop and netbook) while I was testing 20110921.2 with a USB stick made with Unetbootin, but can't be reproduced with the (otherwise apparently identical) beta2 release version, which I have been testing with sticks made with USB disk creator. [Bug 779213] [NEW] Dual boot fails with Mageia/Mandriva
Public bug reported: While Kubuntu 11.04 is now my main distribution, I have also been testing the beta versions of Mageia. In attempting to run Mageia as a subsidiary distribution in a multi-boot situation controlled by Ubuntu/Kubuntu, I have run into a problem that I had previously experienced while attempting to use Mandriva in a similar way - the boot process terminates in a kernel panic, apparently because Grub2 doesn't properly identify the default boot location in Mageia/Mandriva. The problem doesn't seem to arise (for me, anyway) with other distributions still using Grub1, such as openSUSE and Fedora, and has apparently already been raised upstream. See: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=606904 This bug was marked as resolved in version 1.98 of Grub2 back in August 2010. Nevertheless, the issue still exists in version 1.99~rc1-13ubuntu, as used in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 11.04. Since this appears to be a version specific to Ubuntu. I have reported the bug here rather than re-opening the upstream bug at this stage. I have just discovered that another bug report, complete with what appears to be a very simple patch to fix the problem, was lodged upstream in January 2010: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=566102 Clearly that patch has not yet been implemented. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/779213 Title: Dual boot fails with Mageia/Mandriva -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 628591] Re: kubuntu maverick 20100901 - ubiquity crashes when no internet connection available
My original report was misleading in one respect (I have obviously been testing too many ISO cases). I could not replicate the problem by selecting the Try Kubuntu option, then proceeding with the installation, either via the GUI or, as you suggested, by using ubiquity -d in a terminal. In both cases, the installation proceeded correctly. However, when I repeated the exercise for a third time, and selected the Install Kubuntu option, the problem resurfaced, exactly as described. [Bug 627672] Re: [Maverick Beta] install from USB stuck retrieving files 2/6 Hp Mini
I experience the same problem on my Lenovo M9952-RZ4 when attempting to install from a persistent USB stick made with the version of USB startup disk creator included in Kubuntu Maverick as of 20100826 (updated). The problem does not arise when using a LiveCD. -- [Maverick Beta] install from USB stuck retrieving files 2/6 Hp Mini https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/627672 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 628591] [NEW] kubuntu maverick 20100901 - ubiquity crashes when no internet connection available
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity Attempt to install from LiveCD without activating (wireless) Internet connection failed when ubiquity returned ~30 apt-configuration errors, then crashed. Activating the wireless connection in the existing LiveCD session and trying again did not work - ubiquity returned an error stating that partman could not proceed. Terminating the existing session, starting again from scratch, and activating the wireless connection before launching the installer did result in a successful installation. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: iso-testing -- kubuntu maverick 20100901 - ubiquity crashes when no internet connection available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/628591 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 613288] Re: wubi installation failed - boot configuration store could not be opened
@Kate I suspect that, because you had a pre-existing 10.04 installation within Windows, the installer was able to access a configuration file whose contents were sufficiently close to those of the 10.04.1 version to enable the installation to complete successfully. I've always tended to test a clean installation initially, on the possibly spurious grounds that people typically use Wubi only to test the new OS for a few weeks at most, before proceeding to a full installation. Your procedure is the correct one, of course, for those users who prefer to continue running, and updating, Ubuntu/Kubuntu within Windows. -- wubi installation failed - boot configuration store could not be opened https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/613288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Tried that, but the result is exactly the same. Log file attached as requested (looks very similar to the original one). [Bug 613288] Re: wubi installation failed - boot configuration store could not be opened
I haven't yet been able to check this under Vista or XP, but can now confirm that the bug does not appear to be machine-specific. The same behaviour occurs on two of my other machines (a Lenovo M9952-RZ4 box and an Acer eMachines EL1301) running Windows 7 and generates more or less identical log files. [Bug 605614] Re: [ATI] GPU lockup with gfxpayload=keep
I appear to have the same problem with my plain vanilla Compaq C700 laptop (Celeron 560 processor, integrated graphics), except for the small oddity that the boot process stalls with two side-by-side static Ubuntu logos displayed in the top half of the screen, rather than having an entirely dark screen. I can't now be certain which version of the kernel introduced the problem. I know that 2.6.35.6 (the original Alpha 2 version) worked OK, and I know that the problem has persisted through versions -9 and -10.
