[Bug 1928414] Re: Ubuntu 21.04 mono-devel_6.8.0.105+dfsg-3_all.deb install failed

2022-05-07 Thread Jojo
Hi, I am the initial uploader of the discodos package. I'd like to
remove it from the Debian and Ubuntu repositories entirely to not only
solve this issue but also because I don't have the resources to maintain
the Debian package anyway. How would I proceed to getting it removed?

[Bug 1754294] Re: After last updated libcurl3 on libcurl4, some apps are removed.

2018-06-13 Thread William Jojo
I have done much packaging back in my days in AIX. This looks to be a
simple case of one dependency to break them all - libxmltooling7 (see
#54 & #62, above). However looks can be deceiving.

For the complexity, see:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=828607#49

The details for libxmltooling supporting OpenSSL 1.1 appears to be fixed below.
https://issues.shibboleth.net/jira/browse/CPPXT-110

There is still the issue of release.

However, there are other pieces that need to fall in line.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=859829
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=859831

I do not envy the ladies and gents that have to make this library soup
palatable to all, it is often exhausting, seemingly thankless and
involves much waiting on others.

Yes, it is broken, but not because of Canonical. In a way, I blame
myself a bit since a release upgrade test of 16.04 or clean install of a
shib-ed web server using the beta release during implementation of
libcurl4 (prior to Bionic's official release) would have revealed
breaking of Shib2 SP and this could have been posted to the release
notes.

Of course, like most, my hindsight is rather sharp.

[Bug 1754294] Re: After last updated libcurl3 on libcurl4, some apps are removed.

2018-06-04 Thread William Jojo
We are in the process of migrating our Apache web servers from 14.04 to
18.04. Seems this will be impossible since the libcurl problem makes
Shibboleth authentication in Apache non-existent.

All of the dependencies are Universe packages (not 3rd party).
Essentially, anyone wanting SAML2 SSO access controls in Apache has to
fall back to 16.04. Bionic is effectively broken.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have

[Bug 1734541] [NEW] encrypted home-directory is not unmounted on logout

2017-11-26 Thread Jojo
Public bug reported:

Current Situation:

If you log out from an user account with an encrypted home directory, it
is not automatically unmounted and encrypted again.

Expected behaviour:

If I log out from an user account with an encrypted home directory, Id expect
the homedir to be unmounted and encrypted again.
Stepts to reproduce:

log into an account with encrypted home directory. (lets call it: user)
Log out again
log into another account (which has sudo rights, lets call it: user2)

and now enter the following into a terminal:

user2@ubuntu: sudo su
user2@ubuntu: ls -la /home/user

you can see the files of the user

Reasons:
This is a security issue, because as a user you can reasonable expect your data
to be safe, if you log out. if you would simply log in as another user but keep
your data accessable you would simply switch user, instead of loggin out.
Many users only suspend their laptop while carrying it with them. Logging out
and suspending the user expects to have at least the home directory encrypted.

[Bug 1641662] [NEW] No ringtone

2016-11-14 Thread Don Jojo
Public bug reported:

Hi

I have several times the problem, that I do not hear incoming calls.
Some days ago my smartphone was beside me on the desk while I was
working. I had an incoming call. The display turned on, but the phone
did neither ring nor vibrate. I checked the soundsettings afterwards:
"Mute-mode" was off and the sound was turned on. Nevertheless, the phone
did not ring.

This seems to happen recently because I sometimes don't hear calls,
although the smartphone is in the pocket off my trouser. I could not
reproduce the error yet, it seems just to happen sometimes.

I posted the bug there:
https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/handy-klingelt-nicht-bei-eingehenden-anrufen/#post-8619803
Some people told me that they have the same problem, but no one had a solution,
so I decided to report the bug here.

Greetings, Jojo

My system is: Ubuntu Touch, OTA 13, Aquaris E4.5

[Bug 1554089] [NEW] backlight can not be changed on iMac

2016-03-07 Thread Don Jojo
Public bug reported:

Changes on the backlight do not have effect. Only possibility to change
the backlight is to boot OS X, change the backlight there and boot back
into Ubuntu.

The bug is also discribed here: https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic
/helligkeit-anpassen/ (german Website)

I followed this guide to produce the bug-report:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight

On this website the problem I have is also discribed: "Backlight control
does not work, but there are entries in /sys/class/backlight. This may
require the ACPI backlight driver to not take control so that a vendor
specific driver will have a chance to register (see below)."

Kind regards
Jojo

2015-05-15 Thread William Jojo
As I recall this was the result of doing do-release-upgrade from 10.04
to 12.04. We have since rebuilt that server on 14.04 since we could not
get it to successfully upgrade.

Sorry we cannot help further.

[Bug 898999] [NEW] System hangs during boot with a message "Unattended upgrade during shutdown. Sleeping for 5s"

2011-12-02 Thread jojo
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a flash drive with persistence using some
software available on Pendrivelinux.com. The installation went fine and
i was able to boot successfully from the flash drive after the
successful installation.

When I started working in the new system, I got a message about
installation of some Restricted Drivers. It was possibly some missing
wifi drivers due to which my wifi was not working. I applied the
restricted drivers and rebooted the system. Eversince, I did that, I am
not able to boot into the application. It always hangs at "Unattended
upgrades during shutdown. Sleeping for 5s".

I tried formatting my usb drive and reinstalled but for no use. It
happened the same way.

[Bug 664006] Re: LM 10 RC uses over 200mb RAM

2010-10-23 Thread jojo
@Fabio: The problem with Audio is that whenever I play any multimedia
file, the sound comes from both the speakers and the headphones.
Speakers won't mute on plugging in the headphones. But this was existing
in LM9 and Ubuntu 10.10Netbook too. But works fine with Windows XP. So
thought, the problem was with linux audio drivers. Also I wasn't sure
how to report bugs to ALSA developers.

Do you want me to post any other attachment? I didn't quite understand
your last message..

ops
-also too

I am still not very conversant with technical stuff on linux... :)

[Bug 664006] Re: LM 10 RC uses over 200mb RAM

2010-10-22 Thread jojo
I see all the points that Clem says. But indeed, further testing of LM10
RC also gives some more interesting facts. Although the system uses
around 200MB at the start up, every program I open adds up to the memory
and it won't come down even if I close it. For instance, if at startup,
my memory reads 200mb, I open chromium and use it for an hour, the meter
goes up by 300mb, I close chromium, the meter still stays at 300mb and I
open Rhythmbox, it goes further. So it will ultimately go up to around
700mb at which the system would become very slow and then I have to log
off and login. It goes back to 200mb. This is consistent. Considering
this, I would still believe its a valid bug.

[Bug 506124] [NEW] creating new label window should be better organized

2010-01-11 Thread Jojo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Creating new labels for photos becomes difficult when many labels
exists.

When you wish to add labels, marking for examaple people on photograph
it gets annoing to scroll through all parent tag list containing all
people.

Better way would be to present in a top combobox only main parent tags.
After selecting main tag secondary combobox could show up allowing to
choose child tag. TextEntry would allow to add new child tag.

Main tags -> Select existing child tags or add new child tag

if existing child tag selected and more child tags available

-> select child(child tag) or add new one

F-spot export window doesn't have drag'n drop feature. If you wish to

left. You can not drag'n drop any additional photo to this queue nor can

I have a similar issue. My volume icon is always muted. When I increase the
volume, it goes to back minimum (mute) in a couple mins.

[Bug 415464] [NEW] gnometris game not installed in karmic koala

2009-08-18 Thread jojo
Public bug reported:

I am testing Karmic Koala Alpha 4.

I am a big fan of "Genometris" game that I've got used to in Jaunty. But
surprisingly, this game doesn't seem to be installed in my current
version of Ubuntu. I've searched for it in Synaptic but of no use.
Please include this game for the final release.

Re: [Bug 370451] Re: Can't add HP Printer P1006 plugin

2009-08-02 Thread jojo
Hi, Pascal.

Sorry, but at this point I've uninstalled Xubuntu and have installed Linux
Mint 7, which uses the same Ubuntu repositories. I had the same problem
there, but it was fixed about two weeks ago. Whether the fix came from Mint
or not, I don't know, but I assumed at the time that this was done upstream
by Ubuntu. You might want to write to the developers there and ask:

[Bug 356533] [NEW] pbzip2 new upstream version 1.0.5

2009-04-06 Thread Jojo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pbzip2

Changes since 1.0.3. Support to use pbzip2 with tar is what is often
looked for.

v.1.0.5
* Now properly complains about trying to read or write compressed data to
terminal, and exits
* Further fixed CPU detection crash
* Updated Makefile to force deletion when cleaning

v1.0.4
(Dec. 21, 2008)

* Added support to use pbzip2 with tar (--use-compress-prog=pbzip2).
* Added support for all remaining bzip2 command line options so pbzip2 can
be used as a drop-in replacement for bzip2.
* Fixed bug that would cause pbzip2 to crash if detection of the number of
processors failed.
* Now prevents uclibc from being exposed to its lack of a getloadavg
function.
