[Bug 528076] [NEW] Entering specific string(s) of characters causes X to restart

2010-02-25 Thread Jonas Clemen Larsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

How to reproduce:

1. Boot the system
Notice that X starts on tty1 (compared to tty7 in earlier releases of Ubuntu)
2. Log in
3. Open gedit
4. Enter

 910#uC

and press enter. X will crash and/or restart, and the login screen will be
presented again.
Notice that X now runs on tty7, and tty1 now shows the usual getty login
prompt.

I've successfully reproduced this at least 10 times. The bug dosen't
seem to be in effect after the first X restart. I've also noticed
random/garbage text on tty1 after X had restarted. This text is clearly
console input data, as the getty responds to it with a 'Password:'
prompt. Here's an example of the text (seen after 'login:' prompt):

  164*86'(

It's clear that at least one other character string can trigger the same
bug (has the same effect). The string above just happened to be part of
one of my passwords - that is how I initially discovered this: X
crashing everytime I tried logging in to particular service.

[Bug 431180] [NEW] Keyboard shortcut for 'Run a terminal' is discarded

2009-09-16 Thread Jonas Clemen Larsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

In 'Keyboard Shortcuts' I have Ctrl-Alt-Z set as the shortcut for 'Run a
terminal'. After a recent upgrade of several packages, this shortcut is
now set back to 'Disabled' (the default). Re-setting to Ctrl-Alt-Z
works for the active login session, but the changes are reverted back to
'Disabled' at the next login session.

Not sure which package is responsible for this, but the 'Keyboard
Shortcuts' (/usr/bin/gnome-keybinding-properties) originates from source
package 'gnome-control-center', so I'm assigning to this package for
now.

[Bug 226906] Re: Hard lock when module e1000 in use

2008-09-08 Thread Jonas Clemen Larsen
I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) with the latest
updates installed (as of today). Reproduced on a IBM Thinkpad X60s
(model 1704-3DU, BIOS version 2.17).

Doing network transfers of 5GB data seems to be a reliable way of
triggering the lockup.

Manually building the latest e1000e module, using source from
http://e1000.sf.net/ , and loading that instead of the Ubuntu shipped
e1000 and e1000e modules resolved the issue on this system (used
e1000e-0.4.1.7.tar.gz ).

Changed status from 'Fix Released' to 'Confirmed', as this bug is not
fixed in Hardy (please correct me if this is not the proper way of doing
it).
