[Bug 1761606] Re: Two Wi-Fi network applets appear after logging back into live-usb Lubuntu 18.04 session.

2019-11-04 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
Exec=/bin/bash -c "sleep 2 && nm-applet"

in /etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet

seems to be a good workaround for my computers.

Both computers are using SSD disk. So, fast start-up.

Not working. Two icons in most logins.

[Bug 1835639] Re: During boot - System bootorder not found

2019-10-11 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
We made a fresh 18.04 LTS Lubuntu 64 bits install + updates on Acer
TravelMate B118-M (2019), booting with Secure Boot Disabled. Ok!

We clone this installation to Acer TravelMate B117-M (2018, 2017),
booting with Legacy mode. We had the problem.

We can boot ours B117-M pressing Esc at boot. And we found as
workaround:

sudo su
rm -R /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT
reboot

After that, we made the same change to the original (B118-M) and we
booted without problems.

So, it seems like /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT folder is the cause of the problem.
Machines are booting correctly from /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu folder.

We have the rest of ours B117-M with 16.04 LTS. The folder BOOT doesn't
exist on 16.04 installations.

slick-greeter is a good workaround but I had to configure it manually.
Perhaps for this some people is saying that doesn't work for them.

apt-get install slick-greeter
cd /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d
cp -p /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-slick-greeter.conf .

lightdm --show-config

shows:

I  greeter-session=slick-greeter

reboot and it works! No more blank screen when light-locker is
activated.

[Bug 1747558] Re: JPG photo not viewable via default image viewer, but opens fine via Firefox

2018-08-25 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
I found that, in fact, libjpeg8 is only a dependency package for
libjpeg-turbo8.

user@lubuntu:~$ dpkg -l | grep libjpeg
ii  libjpeg-turbo8:amd641.4.2-0ubuntu3.1
 amd64IJG JPEG compliant runtime library.
ii  libjpeg-turbo8:i386 1.4.2-0ubuntu3.1
 i386 IJG JPEG compliant runtime library.
ii  libjpeg8:amd64  8c-2ubuntu8
 amd64Independent JPEG Group's JPEG runtime library
(dependency package)
ii  libjpeg8:i386   8c-2ubuntu8
 i386 Independent JPEG Group's JPEG runtime library
(dependency package)

So, the systems are using libjpeg-turbo8. The string "Premature end of
JPEG file" exists also in libjpeg-turbo8 code:

https://github.com/libjpeg-turbo/libjpeg-
turbo/search?q=Premature+end+of+JPEG+file_q=Premature+end+of+JPEG+file

** No longer affects: libjpeg8 (Ubuntu)

I'm sorry! Browsers use also libjpeg8 because they use libgdk-
pixbuf2.0-0 and ...

user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 | grep libjpeg
  Depends: libjpeg8

[Bug 1747558] Re: JPG photo not viewable via default image viewer, but opens fine via Firefox

2018-08-25 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
The string "Premature end of JPEG file" showed by gimp and imagemagick
utilities (identify, convert) is present on libjpeg8 code (taken from
http://ijg.org/files/)

user@lubuntu:~/Downloads/jpeg-8d$ grep Premature *
cderror.h:JMESSAGE(JWRN_GIF_ENDCODE, "Premature end of GIF image")
cderror.h:JMESSAGE(JERR_RLE_EOF, "Premature EOF in RLE header")
jerror.h:JMESSAGE(JERR_INPUT_EOF, "Premature end of input file")
jerror.h:JMESSAGE(JWRN_JPEG_EOF, "Premature end of JPEG file")
rdjpgcom.c:ERREXIT("Premature EOF in JPEG file");
rdjpgcom.c:ERREXIT("Premature EOF in JPEG file");
rdjpgcom.c:ERREXIT("Premature EOF in JPEG file");
wrjpgcom.c:ERREXIT("Premature EOF in JPEG file");
wrjpgcom.c:ERREXIT("Premature EOF in JPEG file");
wrjpgcom.c:ERREXIT("Premature EOF in JPEG file");

Most of viewers/editors use libjpeg8:

user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends libmagickcore-6.q16-2 | grep libjpeg
  Depends: libjpeg8
user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends eog | grep libjpeg
  Depends: libjpeg8
user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends gpicview | grep libjpeg
  Depends: libjpeg8
user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends gimp | grep libjpeg
  Depends: libjpeg8
user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends mtpaint | grep libjpeg
  Depends: libjpeg8
user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends libreoffice-core | grep libjpeg
  Depends: libjpeg8

But browsers don't use it:

user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends firefox | grep libjpeg
user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends chromium-browser | grep libjpeg
user@lubuntu:~$ apt-cache depends google-chrome-stable | grep libjpeg

So, my conclusion it's that the error appears as a warning when using
libjpeg8 and the viewer/editor should manage it.

[Bug 1747558] Re: JPG photo not viewable via default image viewer, but opens fine via Firefox

2018-08-23 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
I tried many viewers. Some of them worked. I configured eog (Eye of
Gnome) as my default viewer as work-around.

I found also another work-around with convert command (from
imagemagick):

convert wrong.jpg correct.jpg

But I prefer not to modify my JPG files. I found a documentation about
libjpeg where it appears this error explained:

https://libjpeg-
turbo.org/pmwiki/uploads/About/TwoIssueswiththeJPEGStandard.pdf

I think the applications have to manage this warning, and some
viewers/editors do and others not.

[Bug 1747558] Re: JPG photo not viewable via default image viewer, but opens fine via Firefox

2018-08-23 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
Lubuntu 16.04 LTS 64 bit up-to-date

I have this problem opening JPG files with the default viewer, gpicview.
The message is:

Error interpreting JPEG image file (Application transferred too few
scanlines)

All other viewers (firefox, imagemagick, mtpaint, libreoffice impress
work fine.

gimp shows this warning:

Premature end of JPEG file

Not all my JPG files are affected. Some of them doesn't have the
problem.

[Bug 692996] Re: No /etc/init.d script

2018-04-16 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
At job, one user needs to use gnome-orca + speech-dispatcher-festival +
festival. He has Lubuntu 16.04 LTS 64 bit.

The solution for having festival in server mode (required for speech-
dispatcher) is to go to:

Program Menu - Preferences - Default applications for LXSession -
Autostart

and add the following command:

festival --server

Like this, festival starts at user level each time the user logs the
graphical session.

[Bug 1764086] [NEW] Can't change voice and can't disable not desired modules

2018-04-15 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to use gnome-orca --> speech-dispatcher --> festival

It works but:

* I tested speech-dispatcher putting festival in server mode and using
spd-say -o festival. I got always the same voice, kal_diphone. I tried
different solutions modifying speechd.conf and tunning festival
configuration files. No success.

work-around

$ sudo su
# cd /usr/share/festival/english
# mv kal_diphone kal_diphone-backup
# ln -s ../catalan/upc_ca_pep_hts kal_diphone

* I didn't find also the way to disable not desired modules with
speechd.conf. I need only sd_festival

work-around

$ sudo su
# cd /usr/lib/speech-dispatcher-modules
# mkdir backup
# mv sd* backup/.
# cp -p backup/sd_festival .

Any idea?

My system is Lubuntu 16.04 LTS 64 bit up-to-date.

[Bug 1349740] Re: acpi PNP0A08:00: _OSC failed (AE_ERROR); disabling ASPM

2018-01-25 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
* Acer TravelMate B117-M
* Lubuntu 16.04 LTS HWE 64 bit up-to-date

I can see this error since I installed the system for the first time.

$ zgrep "disabling ASPM" /var/log/*

acpi PNP0A08:00: _OSC failed (AE_ERROR); disabling ASPM

Kernels 4.10.0.40-generic, 4.13.0-26-generic, 4.13.0-31-generic (latest
LTS HWE) and 4.14.15-generic

Tried also:

* with intel-microcode package with same result.
* upgrading to latest Acer BIOS, 1.15

We have more than 200 units at job of B117-M. Systems are working. I
don't know which impact can have this error.

[Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2017-09-13 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
We migrated all the computers to Lubuntu (Ubuntu + LXDE) 16.04 64 bit.
The problem is solved for us.

We had the problem with Lubuntu 14.04 32 & 64 bit with kernel enablement stack.
( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack )

We can't test this with 32 bit systems because we haven't them anymore.

[Bug 1549732] Re: Duplicate Imagemagick entries on menu

2017-07-25 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
imagemagick-6.q16_6.9.7.4+dfsg-3ubuntu1.2_amd64.deb Zesty (17.04)
package contains one desktop file with the following line:

Exec=/usr/bin/display-im6.q16 -nostdin %F

In my 16.04 LTS I tried (as possible work-around):

$ /usr/bin/display-im6 -nostdin
display-im6: unrecognized option `-nostdin' @
error/display.c/DisplayImageCommand/1426.

Not working!

It works only seeting Terminal=true as suggested at #8
( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/imagemagick/+bug/1549732/comments/8
)

But not nice having an open terminal...

ca.po compiled (ca.mo) and copied to /usr/share/locale/ca/LC_MESSAGE as
libfm.mo

Still having the problem. I have pcmanfm with most of the items with my
locale (ca, ca_ES) but others not. For example:

208 Show Hidden
293 Icon View
294 Compact View
295 Thumbnail View
296 Detailed List View

Strange behaviour. I don't know if others locales (languages) are
affected. But I guess, yes.

Tried also to solve with the last code at https://github.com/lxde/libfm
but no chance.

Like this others (than Mint flavor) can know which kernel version you're

Jully-2016)

Lubuntu 14.04 LTS + LTSEnablementStack
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack)

We have about 110 units of this model. Some of them are freezing using
them and after suspend.

We migrated some machines to latest stable kernel (4.8.10). Computers are more
stable.
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1575467/comments/142)

but... they continue to freeze after suspend.

Modifing /etc/default/grub as suggested at comment #140 seems to solve
the freezing after suspend.

@old-man999-r, thanks for your test at #146. I didn't know them.

Lubuntu 14.04 LTS + LTSEnablementStack
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack)

We have about 110 units of each model. Some of them are freezing.

Tested 2 machines of each model during more than 72 hours. Playing
Youtube videos with Chrome at full screen, playing with MineCraft (Java
application), using the webcam with guvcview, running powertop, pinging
our gateway, showing iwevent...

Kernel version 4.4.0-36-generic 64bit

Using c6off+c7on.sh (see comment #139) seems to solve the problem.
However, N3150 is seen has CHT (Cherry Trail) processor, not BYT (Bay
Trail) processor. So, for this case it's necessary to modify
c6off+c7on.sh for cases C6*-CHT and C7*-CHT. cstateInfo.sh (see comment
#139) shows all the state-names, if doubts about it.

N2930, N2940 --> Bay Trail Processors
(http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/55844/Bay-Trail?q=bay%20trail#@All)

N3150 --> Braswell Processor
(http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/66094/Braswell#@All)
But kernel code sees as Cherry Trail Processor (???)
(http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/46629/Cherry-Trail)

Upgraded the machines to latest stable kernel (4.8.10). No script
applied. It also seems to solve the problem. Solution found at
https://forum.manjaro.org/t/intel-bay-trail-freezes-the-linux-
kernel/1931/12

For B117M, Acer technical services changed the SSD unit. But the system
continued freezing. At comment #126 one user solved his problem updating
the SSD firmware. Our 2 tested B117M seem to be stable with 4.8.10
kernel.

[Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-11-20 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
About my comments #261 & #262

I have problems with Google Chrome if I remove xserver-org-video-all (in
my case xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-xenial) packages. Chrome works very
slow and many times I'v got error application at startup.

Reinstalling the packages solves the problem with Chrome.

I read at some places that graphics acceleration can cause problems
using Chrome, http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/internet/how-turn-off-
gpu-hardware-acceleration-in-google-chrome-3605455/

The use of this driver is discouraged if your hw is new enough (ca.
2007 and newer). You can try uninstalling this driver and let the
server use it's builtin modesetting driver instead.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-

sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video*
sudo reboot

2016-11-04 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
@hamzeh-ahmad, I think that

uncomment the line #HandleLidSwitch and make sure value equal suspend

is not necessary.

I'm guessing that commented parameters at /etc/systemd/logind.conf are
the defaults.

So, the line:

#HandleLidSwitch=suspend

is equivalent to:

HandleLidSwitch=suspend

In fact, I didn't need to modify it.

Workaround if you are running a Xenial kernel.

Downloaded and installed (using gdebi).

This is the latest package for Xenial (16.04). I used it with Trusty

[Bug 1493814] Re: [Acer Travelmate B115-M] Synaptic touchpad

2015-10-01 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
I don't know.

The oldest Acer Travelmate B115-M that we have is manufactured on
Jully-2014.

So, we installed 14.04 LTS.

I think there is something wrong for i2c devices,
http://www.synaptics.com/en/intertouch.php

Looking at the internet it's easy to find the problem with other
netbooks and Linux distros.

[Bug 1493814] Re: [Acer Travelmate B115-M] Synaptic touchpad

2015-09-10 Thread Josep Pujadas-Jubany
Yes, I know it.

Commented at

askubuntu.com/a/670283/358831

askubuntu.com/questions/653735
askubuntu.com/questions/651974

With latest BIOS you can disable i2c detection.

But if you don't disable it, i2c detection fails it as explained.

If you need more testing don't hesitate to ask for.

Thanks!
