[Bug 775950] Re: fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed! upon boot (always reproducible on battery only, but sometimes on AC too)

2011-06-15 Thread Joseph Piché
This bug appears to be fixed in vanilla 2.6.39. I built and installed
2.6.39 loosely following the instructions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild and used Ubuntu-X ppa
for updated fglrx drivers. Booting to that, I no longer have this issue,
and am able to boot without any problems--AC or no.

2011-06-07 Thread Joseph Piché
I've confirmed this happens while using both fglrx and radeon X drivers.
And while recovery (single) mode does occasionally work (for me), a
majority of the time, it gives the same message.

[Bug 568545] Re: unable to open rtf files

2010-04-22 Thread Joseph Piché
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report, but rather a question. We appreciate the
difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise
problems you are having in the support tracker at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are
bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

Normally this would be converted to directly to a question, but I can
offer you a simple response: RTF files can be opened by programs like
Open Office or Abiword.

Thanks.

[Bug 517096] Re: i can't install cypecad

2010-02-04 Thread Joseph Piché
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that the software you are trying to
install is not built for Ubuntu. Can you confirm that this software has
Ubuntu or any Linux support?

Also, I noticed that some of the sentences in this bug report are not in
English. If they were translated to English they would be accessible to
more triagers.

If this is third party software not provided by the official Ubuntu
repositories, the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular
bug. If this is incorrect please feel free to re-open the bug report
with additional information.

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

[Bug 517006] Re: imagemagick package crashes on login just updated

2010-02-04 Thread Joseph Piché
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

It would also help to include which release of Ubuntu you are using, and
which architecture.

Thanks!

[Bug 450376] [NEW] Network Manager keyring access prompt prevents screensaver launch

2009-10-13 Thread Joseph Piché
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

On boot into gnome, NM starts and prompts for a keyring password in
order to access a previously connected wireless network. This prompt
prevents the screensaver from launching. It has repeatedly happened that
I will boot my computer, walk away, and come back to this prompt, type
in the password (or hit cancel) and as soon as the dialog closes the
screensaver then launches.

I believe the correct action would be the screensaver launching whenever
it is scheduled to, and leave the prompt in the background.

[Bug 396632] Re: lighttpd init file should not chown or chmod on status check

2009-09-28 Thread Joseph Piché
I believe this is related to bug 424991 in that `/etc/init.d/lighttpd`
assumes directory locations and 109559 and permissions when this should
be pulled from a config file like `/etc/default/lighttpd` or something.

I'm not familiar enough with with bash scripting to know what to do to
fix this, otherwise I would write a patch. Could someone else please
either confirm or deny that this is a bug?

[Bug 396632] Re: lighttpd init file should not chown or chmod on status check

2009-08-03 Thread Joseph Piché
I believe that is the offending code. Now that I think about it I should
have titled this bug differently. The issue I saw was
`/etc/init.d/lighttpd status` cannot be run as a non-root user. When I
looked into why it couldn't be run, I saw that quoted code. Plus,
shouldn't the user and group be pulled from a config file? Please let me
know if I am missing something. Thanks.

[Bug 396632] [NEW] lighttpd init file should not chown or chmod on status check

2009-07-07 Thread Joseph Piché
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lighttpd

The lighttpd init file performs `chmod` and `chown` on the PID file
every time it's run. This should only be done under certain actions of
the init file as it is not necessary for the "status" action.

[Bug 372194] [NEW] Create launcher custom icon does not allow selecting SVG

2009-05-05 Thread Joseph Piché
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The Create Launcher application (which can be opened by right-clicking on the
desktop or by adding an applet to the panel) does not allow selecting SVGs via
the custom icon browser once you click on "Browse" even though the "Browse
Icons" dialog lists them.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Create Launcher
2. Click on the icon button
3. Click "Browse..." at the top
4. Try to select an SVG

I filed a bug in gnome
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=581158) but it was marked as
invalid with the following comments:

Nautilus isn't doing anything special here. It just calls
gtk_file_filter_add_pixbuf_formats() to add all of the formats supported by
GdkPixbuf to the file chooser's list. If that doesn't include SVG's, it's
probably a configuration problem (it works perfectly fine here). You need to
installed LibRSVG to support rendering SVG images in Gdk (as I'm not aware of
any other plugin that currently supports rendering SVGs).

I checked to see if I had livrsvg installed, and I do.

[Bug 366911] Re: System halted

2009-04-28 Thread Joseph Piché
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the
resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!
