[Bug 952556] Re: [Precise] [Hardware-killer] HD restarts every few seconds

2012-05-02 Thread Julian Olivien
Hi!

I just reverted my hdparm.conf to default and updated hdparm from
precise-proposed.

Results: no more spin-up sounds while on battery in ~45 minutes of
testing. I had various spin-ups every minute before, so the patch works
for me (APM level is correctly set to 128 by default). (See my comment
above for information on my drive if you need it)

Thanks for fixing!

[Bug 952556] Re: [Precise] [Hardware-killer] HD restarts every few seconds

2012-04-25 Thread Julian Olivien
Can confirm these very frequent (~10 seconds) spinups as well. Setting
apm_battery = 128 in /etc/hdparm.conf as a workaround works very fine.

This is a Samsung 300E laptop with a SAMSUNG HM641JI harddisk. Attaching
the output of hdparm -I /dev/sda (with apm_battery=128 set) if that
helps. Anything else I can provide to help?

[Bug 987392] [NEW] avatar picture choice broken - no predefined images, no webcam (lubuntu)

2012-04-23 Thread Julian Olivien
Public bug reported:

The installer (lubuntu precise i386 of today) did not show any picture
to choose as an avatar.

Furthermore, no webcam image was shown (although this has worked for me
in ubuntu 11.10 (ubuntu not lubuntu). User interface elements of
previous installation step kept visible inside the webcam image frame
for various seconds, then vanished.

Attaching screenshot.

[Bug 837054] Re: Time Zone selection shows about 20 different New Yorks and doesn't autoselect my location

2012-04-23 Thread Julian Olivien
I got many many identical entries for Frankfurt (Germany) today as
well as for Frankfurt (Oder) in my installation of today's lubuntu
i386.

Further, there were two entries for Omsk, Russia.

[Bug 987406] [NEW] time zone map: graphical mismatch of selected city and highlighted time zone

2012-04-23 Thread Julian Olivien
Public bug reported:

During installation of today's lubuntu i386 build:

Clicking somewhere near the Russian cities Omsk and Novosibirsk (just in
the middleof the country; also happens at other places) marks these
cities by a red dot, but this red dot does not lie inside the
automatically selected time zone highlighted in green color.

Expected: Red dot lies inside green time zone.

This might be another case of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/334284
which was marked fixed a long time ago.

See also
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/838045 ,
but I don't think this has anything to do with it, just for reference...

Attaching a screenshot.

[Bug 987411] [NEW] layout of browser slide in slide show broken (german, lubuntu)

2012-04-23 Thread Julian Olivien
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu 12.04 of today, i386 Desktop

The layout of the browser/internet/chromium slide in the slide show is
broken: text and image ar both aligned to the right, producing something
unreadable.

Using german localization if that makes any difference.

[Bug 963636] Re: Install from Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1 alternate amd64 ISO image fails

2012-04-03 Thread Julian Olivien
Having a similiar problem with the daily build from 2012/04/03 I comment
here, as this report misses information from which I could judge if it's
exactly the same problem.

Alternate install of the amd64 iso went very fine, but it once stated a
fail during 'choosing and installing packages' (no further reasons
given).

This was no blocker though, as restarting this very step from the step
menu seemed to solve the problem (no further errors). Now the system is
installed and works perfectly.

Are there any log files I could provide you to help find out about the
problem?

[Bug 950571] Re: Brightness hotkeys not working in Samsung 300V

2012-04-03 Thread Julian Olivien
I have the same problem with a Samsung 300E (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JulianOlivien/Samsung300E for some hardware
information), using today's daily build of precise for amd64 (kernel is
3.2.0-21-generic).

Experienced problem is the same. Brightness may still be adjusted via display
settings or
pkexec /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-backlight-helper --set-brightness
[1..7] .

Workaround: assign new shortcuts to this command.

[Bug 963636] Re: Install from Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1 alternate amd64 ISO image fails

2012-04-03 Thread Julian Olivien
Oh, I just discovered that the installation syslog can be found in
/var/log/installer/, pretty handy; attaching mine, but it seems to be a
CD I/O error (complaining first about I/O errors, than about wrong
hashes). The error is at Apr 3 16:14:15 in the attached file (sorry
it's partly german..), but I guess this is not likely to be a real bug
then (?).
