[Bug 1710993] Re: PulseAudio requirement breaks Firefox on ALSA-only systems after 55.0.1 update

2017-08-30 Thread Julien Lavergne
Just to add my 2 cents, I'm still suprise that Firefox package doesn't
add a depend on pulseaudio with this version. By adding pulseaudio to
the seed, we make the impression that we want pulseaudio on Lubuntu for
Xenial. We don't. We need to add it because Firefox is broken without
it.

However, adjusting the seed is probably the quicker way to fix this
critical issue, on a stable release, so let's go with this.

[Bug 1690491] Re: Merge 0.11.1-2 from Debian Sid

2017-05-16 Thread Julien Lavergne
The diff was introduced to be able to use lxqt-session with others
settings that the ones provided by lxqt-common. At this time, lxqt was
only capable to read settings from 1 path (the one provided by lxqt-
common). So, it was impossible to have both lxqt-common and lubuntu-
default-settings.

However, the ability to read settings on custom path was merged in Qt
(see https://bugs.launchpad.net/lubuntu-next/+bug/1387237 for details),
and lubuntu-default-settings was modified to store lxqt settings on a
custom path. So, it should work, out-of-the-box, without this diff (if
Qt is up-to-date). IMO, the diff can me dropped, and the package sync.
At least, upstream and pristine version of lxqt should work, as expected
by upstream (it may need a bit of tweaking for Lubuntu Qt version to
work as expected).

[Bug 1649462] Re: grub2 missing from manifest on 17.04 so fails to boot

2016-12-17 Thread Julien Lavergne
I pushed a potential fix to the seed. I hope it will be enough.

Apparently, grub is put on flavors ISO just by the recommend of Ubiquity.
See :
http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/germinate-output/xubuntu.zesty/live
And :
http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/germinate-output/ubuntu.zesty/live

Since lubuntu uses no-follow-recommends, we miss this one, so I put it
explicitly on the seed.

[Bug 1645068] Re: Merge lxde-common 0.99.2-2 from Debian Unstable

2016-11-27 Thread Julien Lavergne
1) 14_more_openbox_keybindings.patch : Since multimedia keys can be
configured on lxpanel, it's better to remove those entries, so 1 thing
is not configured at 2 different places. The other entries can also be
dropped if there are the only ones left on the diff (no need to diverge
from Debian for this).

2) It's was an old attempt to fix a bug for SSH on Lubuntu, but it's
probably not the correct fix. I think it's safe to drop it too. We are
also at the beginning of the cycle, so it's safer to drop it now.

With those 2 diff removed, I will ask for a sync of lxde-common in
Zesty.

[Bug 1643973] [NEW] Please remove openbox from the tests

2016-11-22 Thread Julien Lavergne
Public bug reported:

Currently, openbox is apprently blocked on zeity because the autopkg tests fail
for plasma-framework on s390x
See
http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/zesty/update_excuses.html

I don't know why openbox was added to the test (the debian/changelog
doesn't document it). If the build failure can't be fixed, could you
please remove openbox from the tests, so at least openbox can be
unblocked.

FYI, openbox only provides an "Enhances: kde-workspace", it's clearly
not an hard depend on any KDE / plasma / Qt stuff.

[Bug 1635701] Re: Merge 0.11.0-3 from Debian Sid

2016-10-23 Thread Julien Lavergne
Thanks, the diff looks OK, except for 2 things :

It needs libqtxdg 2.0, so it needs to be sync before liblxqt (See
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libqtxdg)

There is 2 missings symbols between the 2 versions (see the diff) :
- (c++)"LXQt::PageSelectWidget::sizeHint() const@Base" 0.9.0+20150911
- (c++)"LXQt::ScreenSaver::xdgProcess_finished(int, QProcess::ExitStatus)@Base"
0.9.0+20150911

Usually, that needs a soname bump, but upstream didn't do it, and Debian
didn't force it either. But, since liblxqt is only used in LXQt, and we
are going to rebuild all the components, that's not a big issue.

When libqtxdg is synced in z, you can test build liblxqt, and if it's
OK, it can be sync also.

It will probably be possible to sync it directly, I just worry about the
soname management. Could you do a diff between the current version on
Ubuntu and the one in Debian, and include it here for review ?

Regarding the replacement of liblxqt-data, it's probably the lxqt-l10n
package which need an additional conflicts / replaces with liblxqt-data

[Bug 1574278] Re: AbiWord text cursor starts to flicker after adding some text

According to upstream bug, it's a gtk 3.18 bug which Abiword triggered.
An update to 3.20 fix the issue, which is the case on yakkety. To fix

[Bug 1600318] Re: Adudacious depends on both GTK and Qt

2016-07-14 Thread Julien Lavergne
Thanks John for the comment.

I tested a workaround to disable the Qt build, trying to do the less
intrusive changes to the packaging (the real change should be done by
Debian). The debdiff is included. I'll upload it if there is no
objection on it.

[Bug 1423326] Re: lxsession should depend on lxsession-logout

2016-07-14 Thread Julien Lavergne
I don't think lxsession-logout should be a depends of lxsession, because
lxsession works perfectly without it. In fact, people may want another
way to log out that lxsession-logout. There is other logout utilities
that work with lxsession.

I have no strong opinion about adding lxsession-logout in the recommends
field of lxsession. That make sense, but it doesn't fix the "problem"
for people who will remove the package and try to log out by clicking on
the lxpanel shortcut. If there is a default setting using lxsession-
logout in lxpanel, that's the same issue (it means, lxpanel needs also a
recommend of lxsession-logout).

[Bug 1600519] Re: Add the lxqt-abi package and merge from Debian

2016-07-11 Thread Julien Lavergne
This merge probably need more discussions. I'll add some background on
this:

LXQt upstream handle soname changes very badly in the past (see
https://github.com/lxde/lxqt/issues/821). To adapt this, Debian choose
to introduce an abi package, a virtual package to work like a soname
package.

Personally, I think it's the wrong answer to the problem. IMO, we should
patch upstream to set the correct soname name, or adapt the library
binary (like a liblxqt0a or liblxqt1 ...). I don't think using a virtual
package is a good answer, because Debian library system can handle this
natively. Also, if we want to use this solution, we also need to move
non .so files out the liblxqt0 binary (for soname transition). That's
the reason of the creation of the liblxqt-data binary. Unfortunately, I
failed to convince Debian maintainers about this.

However, this is an important divergence with Debian. If we introduce
this, we will have to carry this diff probably forever, and I'm also not
a fan of adding extra work for this (especially because I'll probably
lack time to maintain it properly).

So, for this case, we have 2 choices:
- Diverge from Debian, but the merge needs to be modify to include the changes
above, and that will need extra work on Ubuntu side for the future
- Follow Debian, and in this case we can probably sync liblxqt directly from
Debian and drop the diff.

I'm fine with both options, if we are all aware of the consequences :-)
(I'll also be happy to have an opinion on my change proposal, maybe
others ubuntu devs will find it not necessary, so the choice will be
easier :-)).

[Bug 1600318] [NEW] Adudacious depends on both GTK and Qt

2016-07-08 Thread Julien Lavergne
Public bug reported:

Starting with 3.7.2-1, audacious ship both GTK and Qt UI, but in the
same binaries. In fact, libaudcore3 now depends on libqt5core5a.

That's problematic for Lubuntu to ship both toolkit at the same time
(space on the ISO), and it's probably not so nice for people who want to
keep their system slim.

** Description changed:

+

[Bug 1575460] Re: Intel video driver not installed by default on Lubuntu 16.04 fresh install

2016-06-26 Thread Julien Lavergne
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * xserver-xorg-video-intel is not included in Lubuntu ISO because it
+ switched to recommends on the common seeds. Since Lubuntu ISO doesn't
+ include recommends, so xserver-xorg-video-intel is missing (but included
+ on other flavors).
+
+ * xserver-xorg-video-intel is not mandatory for Intel users, but it
+ needs a recent hardware to work correctly. According to the packages
+ description :
+
+ "The use of this driver is discouraged if your hw is new enough (ca. 2007
+ and newer). You can try uninstalling this driver and let the server use
+ it's builtin modesetting driver instead."
+
+ * However, Lubuntu targets old hardwares, and there are a lot of
+ reports from Intel users that, without this drivers, X doesn't load.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Install Lubuntu 16.04 with an official 16.04 ISO, on a system with an
Intel graphic device.
+ * Boot on the installed system, and the boot process should stop before X is
loading.
+ * To confirm the fix, install manually xserver-xorg-video-intel and boot

+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Stick with the old driver may have an impact on the performances of
+ the driver (the new one should be better for 3D and others graphic
+ stuff).
+
+ * However, others flavors kept this driver on the ISO, and according to

[Bug 1582046] Re: Missing Lubuntu Plymouth logo

2016-06-26 Thread Julien Lavergne
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ During the merge of an upload of lubuntu-artwork back to the bzr branch, some
files was forgotten in the process (images files). The consequence was that the

+
+ [Original report]
  Source package: lubuntu-artwork 0.61
  Binary package: plymouth-theme-lubuntu-logo 0.61
  Description: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  Release: 16.04

There is an empty screen during boot instead of the Lubuntu logo. The cause
of this issue is that the following files are not installed:

[Bug 1582270] [NEW] sddm only works if plasma.desktop is in /usr/share/xsessions

2016-05-16 Thread Julien Lavergne
Public bug reported:

Currently, casper hardcodes plasma.desktop session in /etc/sddm.conf
(see scripts/casper-bottom/15autologin), because plasma is the only
session using sddm.

I'm preparing a version of Lubuntu which will use sddm. The included
patch replaces the plasma.desktop session by the Lubuntu one if it
exists on the filesystem.

** Affects: casper (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: "casper_1.377.debdiff"

[Bug 1550896] Re: Move GConf depends to a seperate binary

2016-03-02 Thread Julien Lavergne
Thanks for the answer. Here is my comments for the different solutions :

- New dh_gconf : it's seem a bit overkill, especially if pidgin is the
only one to use it. And I don't know dh enough to make this change in
the near future :-)

- hack on debian/rules : probably a good idea, but I don't think I can
make it clean with cdbs

- don't use misc:Depends : yes, it feels wrong. If something else use
this feature in the future, it will not be obvious to re-enable it in
the package (most of packages have misc:Depends).

- Considering it's seems broken, and used for a very limited use cases,
I think it's safe to just remove it. I attached the updated debdiff.

[Bug 1550896] [NEW] Move GConf depends to a seperate binary

2016-02-28 Thread Julien Lavergne
Public bug reported:

Currently, gconf on pidgin is only used to retrieve proxy settings from
GNOME. It puts an hard depends on gconf, even if pidgin is used on a
non-gnome environment. Also, it seems that this feature may be broken
(see LP #878032 and https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/13867).

The included debdiff move away the gconf files to a pidgin-gnome binary,
so people not using GNOME can remove the gconf depends.

[Bug 1488660] Re: Intermittent bug with additional applets appearing

2015-10-13 Thread Julien Lavergne
Thanks for the testing. Be sure to install also lxpanel-indicator-
applet-plugin.

I still can't reproduce it on 2 systems. I think the patch will not do
more damage (and we are very short in time), so I'll push it to see how
it behaves on a daily. We may adjust it before the release, or as an
SRU.

The upload will close the bug, but feel free to reopen if it's still a
problem on a daily.

[Bug 1468529] Re: lxappearance segmentation fault

2015-10-13 Thread Julien Lavergne
Probably all the crash of lxappearance are related to the ongoing
migration to openbox 3.6. I hope the last upload I made on openbox will
unblock the migration process, so we can see if there is another crash
behind this.

[Bug 1488660] Re: Intermittent bug with additional applets appearing

2015-10-12 Thread Julien Lavergne
After some testing, it seems that the change in indicator-application-
gtk2 is correct, but it triggered another bug on lxpanel, or the
interaction between lxpanel and indicator-application-gtk2. As far as I
can see, the startup sequence mess up the applet. I still try to know
which event trigger this.

I think I finally find the cause :

Last revision add files which are already in indicator-application packages,
with the consequence that 2 different applications can produce icons on the
panel. I'm currently testing the reversion of this revision to see if it's
confirmed.

I'm pushing the fix for lxsession to the repo, but it probably need a go
from the release team to enter the repository. It would be better to go
in the release than in a 0 day SRU, as it affects people who want to

@Adam : I'm not sure the change you done on http://bazaar.launchpad.net

[Bug 1336944] Re: lxsession ignores ~/.config/autostart directory

2015-01-01 Thread Julien Lavergne
** Description changed:

- ~/.config/autostart is now completely ignored, everything located in
- /etc/xdg/autostart is loaded regardless of what is selected by the
- lxsession startup manger aka 'default applications of lxsession' the
- only solution is to add 'NotShowIn=LXDE;' to the text files located in
- /etc/xdg/autostart if these files are placed in ~/.config/autostart they
- are no adhered to by lxsession
+ SRU statement :
+ [Impact]
+ Currently, the files under ~/.config/autostart are ignored if other files are
present in /etc/xdg. The previous fix was incomplete, currently the home
directory is read, but with the lowest priority. If a file in /etc/xdg is
found, the one in ~/.config/autostart is ignored. Home directory should be the
first directory to be read, and system directory should be ignored if something
is found in ~/.config/autostart. The patch (from upstream) fix this problem.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ To test :
+ - Copy a file from /etc/xdg/autostart in ~/.config/autostart
+ - Change the file to change the behavior
+ - Reboot and see if the change apply
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The fix is applied since quite some time upstream and in 14.10. However,
testing the correct behavior of the different configurations (1 file only in
~/.config/autostart, 1 file only in /etc/xdg/autostart, both file on
~/.config/autostart and /etc/xdg/autostart ...) may be useful.
+
+
+ Original report :
+ ~/.config/autostart is now completely ignored, everything located in
/etc/xdg/autostart is loaded regardless of what is selected by the lxsession
startup manger aka 'default applications of lxsession' the only solution is to
add 'NotShowIn=LXDE;' to the text files located in /etc/xdg/autostart if these
files are placed in ~/.config/autostart they are no adhered to by lxsession
