[Bug 1604313] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: system freezes instead of suspend after undocking
This bug is still in 16.04. I seem to be able to work around this issue by closing the display while in the bug. Let the display orientation update so only the external monitor(s) is turned on, then undock the computer and finally open the display and close it again. But undocking the computer with the display open and then trying to make the computer sleep will always make it lockup so that the cursor is the only thing that's responsive. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1604313 Title: Ubuntu 16.04: system freezes instead of suspend after undocking To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1604313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1675086] Re: Kernel Bug when using nfsroot + overlayroot at the same time
** Description changed: Hi, this affects version signature Ubuntu 4.4.0-21.37-generic 4.4.6 (as - reported by initramfs) + reported by initramfs), ARCH: amd64 I have installed ubuntu 16.04 via debootstrap in a chroot environment. I can attach the whole initramfs.conf, if desired) As soon as I enable overlayroot (using tmpfs as overlay target), the machine hangs at boot. In order to debug this issue, I have appended the break=init kernel parameter. In busybox I can then see that the overlay is mounted. However, if I try to chroot into it, I get a stacktrace (see attached screenshot). The overlay seems to be readable, but not writeable. ('touch file' works, but there is nothing there afterwards) `apport-collect` is not available in initramfs, therefore no log could be attached. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Attachment added: "Screen Shot 2017-03-22 at 16.26.52.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1675086/+attachment/4842414/+files/Screen%20Shot%202017-03-22%20at%2016.26.52.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1675086 Title: Kernel Bug when using nfsroot + overlayroot at the same time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1675086/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1629613] Re: [Dell XPS 13] SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad not recognized after upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04
With a little spare time I've been checking what happens in logs while I run `evtest` as per above instruction: `/var/log/dmesg` and `/var/log/Xorg.0.log` - as grepping showed they both reference "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad". dmesg log was not updating after boot, but I noticed something in Xorg.0.log, which I attach below. Here's the breakdown of the final few lines, that happened while I was checking `less /proc/bus/input/devices` and `evtest`. So here it is: First of ALT+CTRL+F2, as I switch to virtual terminal, I get this: [47.820] (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch I assume nothing unusual and proceed to run `less /proc/bus/input/devices` - observe the device `event5` in the list, that is the TouchPad (as per above comment). I run `sudo evtest /dev/input/event5` and start swiping and clicking the touchpad - nothing yet happens. After a little bit - curiosity kills and ALT+CTRL+F7 - I go check the terminal app that's tailing log files. I notice this: [86.672] (II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch [86.672] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1920x1080@60.0 on eDP1 using pipe 0, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none [86.744] (--) synaptics: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: touchpad found [92.560] (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch Switch back to virtual terminal where `evtest` is still running - I continue swiping and clicking touchpad. No events come through. One more come back to X: [ 106.959] (II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch [ 106.959] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1920x1080@60.0 on eDP1 using pipe 0, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none [ 107.028] (--) synaptics: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: touchpad found [ 113.552] (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch And back - still no events. I continue the procedure of clicking, touching and swiping. Eventually - the events start coming in. I CTRL+C `evtest`, log out from VT and come back to X: [ 174.700] (II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch [ 174.700] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1920x1080@60.0 on eDP1 using pipe 0, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none [ 174.760] (--) synaptics: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: touchpad found The touchpad sure works and I can move the pointer. Any advice/ideas where to look next - welcome & could look at it next time I have spare time. ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1629613/+attachment/4802134/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1629613 Title: [Dell XPS 13] SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad not recognized after upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1629613/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also notice that the display changes are not detected properly. When I undock, there is no change in display orientation and I can still move the mouse over to the other screen which is not there (missing limb, still felt). [Bug 1629613] Re: [Dell XPS 13] SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad not recognized after upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04
Updating BIOS managed to improve the situation to the point where I can consistently make the touchpad work, although it is inconvenient. Laptop: Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition (9333) OS: 16.04 LTS - updated from 14.04 LTS - updated from 12.04 LTS, which was the original OS and had touchpad working. Here's how I "made" it work. 1. Updated BIOS from A02 to A08 (latest for my model) - as per Dell's instructions[0]. 2. After reboot, `xinput` output finally had "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad", BUT it was still not responsive. 3. `sudo apt-get install evtest` (required for step #4). 4. Following the "Debugging Touchpad Detection"[1] I switch to VT (CTRL+ALT+F2) 5. Run `cat /proc/bus/input/devices` I find the touchpad name is `event5`. 6. Run `sudo evtest /dev/input/event5 > event` and do various gestures on the touchpad, then CTRL+C. 7. Switch back to X (CTLR+ALT+F7) - turns out the touchpad is now working. After rebooting touchpad is non-responsive, but if I repeat steps 6 & 7 - it starts working again. I'm not sure if this is reproducible on other models, but I hope this is helpful for further debugging. [Bug 1296425] Re: pulseaudio is started twice - effectively making device management impossible.
Yes, it only seems to happen with KDE. I also found that Pulseaudio installs one extra start-up script for KDE only in /etc/xdg/autostart. The man pages of these scripts both mention they will use an already running Pulseaudio. I think the proper solution is either: - run Pulseaudio *once* and never again (when logging in) - fix Pulseaudio's self-detection so that it works when the first instance is still initializing As for running Pulseaudio as a specific user, I wonder what would happen when multiple users are logging onto a system at the same time. At the end here at least, the pid file points to the lowest PID. Could I check it during the start-up phase as well? [Bug 1325282] [NEW] USB microphone inputs not detected by Pulseaudio on Kubuntu Trusty
Public bug reported: When I connect an audio device using USB, I can only use it to play back stereo sound. Anything else is not detected. I tried it with two different devices and they both give me the same result. Neither in KDE nor in Google Hangouts, I can use my microphone. It does not show up as a selectable input device anywhere. ALSA does seem to correctly detect that these USB devices have a microphone. The microphone of my internal audio does work. [Bug 756317] Re: Captive portals may corrupt apt translation indices
With the current situation, you do not even have to actively use APT behind such a portal for the bug to be triggered. When my main internet connection was working with such a portal, APT just stopped working seemingly randomly because there apparently is some kind of auto fetch daemon running by default on Ubuntu. I had to delete the contents of that directory very regularly, because APT often wasn't working when I needed it. Of course I would only use APT myself once I verified that my connection was working properly. And I'm sad to say it, but it seems such portals are very popular in this part of the world :( If this is not going to be fixed for Trusty, at least add a note to the release notes which explains how to disable this automatic fetching of package lists. That would significantly reduce the problem for many people. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756317 Title: Captive portals may corrupt apt translation indices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/756317/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Via nautilus is usershare. Via smb.conf is root share. Try to set permissions of home to 755 and make a share /home/public If you make a public share samba uses nobody/other as user to change to that directory. [Bug 592610] Re: Shared folders (through Samba) when following instructions sometimes does not work correctly
are you referring to root share or usershare? root shares work properly and they are meant to be done by fiddling with smb.conf user share via nautilus does not work properly private shares with password (its automatically your login password) work. public (guest) shares in the home directory dont work because samba cannot cd into /home because /home defaul permissons are to strict for "nobody" which is the guest/public samba user. i had a long talk with the maintainer of nautilus-share. there are several possible fixes. 1. set homedirectoy permissons for "eveyone else" properly 2. add force user = owner of the /home/'your username' directoy to smb.con and map to guest = bad password -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/592610 Title: Shared folders (through Samba) when following instructions sometimes does not work correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/592610/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 944695] Re: Removing and readding the system tray in KDE doubles its size each time
I suppose it was partially a bot above me. Even looking at the KDE bug for a single second shows that this problem is actually specific to the Ubuntu packages (and probably should belong stay here and closed there) and that the KDE developers are not looking for a fix. There are quite a few Ubuntu-specific patches in Ubuntu's KDE 4 packages.
