[Bug 493025] Re: Printer Pixma iP1000 no longer works in Karmic Koala

2010-09-18 Thread Jurgis Pralgauskis
[SOLVED]
I tried it on Lucid, based on deb link from
http://josiahjared.wordpress.com/2006/11/30/canon-pixma-ip1000-drivers/

the answer is in 6. Fix libs with a little correction (libpng12.so.0 is
located in /lib not /usr/lib)
sudo ln -s /lib/libpng12.so.0 /usr/lib/libpng.so.2
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libtiff.so.4 /usr/lib/libtiff.so.3
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2 /usr/lib/libxml.so.1

ah by the way,
when installing it complains that bjfilter-common needs libcupsys2
but libcups2 conflicts with libcupsys2

the answer is to install from commandline using
sudo dpkg --force-depends -i *.deb

[Bug 272264] [NEW] Ubuntu has very old, not user-friendly Scilab version, 5.0.1 was released on 2008-09

2008-09-19 Thread Jurgis Pralgauskis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scilab

Ubuntu has very old, not user-friendly Scilab version, 5.0.1 was
released on 2008-09

Main Changes Scilab 4.X - 5.0 you can see here:
http://www.scilab.org/download/index_download.php?page=CHANGES_5.0.1

Licence and user interface got major improvements:

License:

 - License changed to CeCILL (fully compatible with the GPL v2, see
http://www.cecill.info/index.en.html)
Therefore, Scilab is now a 100% free software.

Graphical User Interface:
=
 - Advanced docking system
 - Follow the Tango Desktop Project http://tango.freedesktop.org/
 - GUI re-written in Java Swing: Same GUI for all OS (Menubars, toolbars...)

According to debbug 483682 Sylvestre Ledru [EMAIL PROTECTED] has made a
prototype package of Scilab 5 at 30 May 2008, at September 2008 he wrote:
Unfortunately, Scilab 5 won't make it for Lenny. It is a major release with
new packages. It is now free (ie, Scilab has to go to NEW again for these two
 reasons)

2008-07-10 Thread Jurgis Pralgauskis
by the way this is might be very frustrating for user,
which doesn't notice anything, and keeps on double-clicking , thinking ubuntu
ignores him ;)

by the way, the new file name appears in the aplication tab on bottom bar,
but it's not highlighted in anyway.
if you are in the desktop other than the application, then the application tab
appears in the bottom bar highlighted.

in ubiquity, when choosing manual partition,
I had ntfs with windows install (may be it was labeled 'windows', not sure),
first I have to select the partition type, and after I select ntfs *
ubiquity proposed me drop down for mount point -- and it was '/windows'

[Bug 213045] [NEW] audio conflicts: VLC vs Totem (gstreammer) or Rythmbox

2008-04-06 Thread Jurgis Pralgauskis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

if I start Totem or Rythmox and VLC after that, VLC gives no sound (video is OK)
if I start VLC and Totem or Rythmox after that, they don't play -- just show
paused (well the movie in totem seems to progres veryveryvery slowly ~one fps ,
but still no sound:)

I can play several VLC in one time with no problem
and also the same no problem for any combination of Totem and Rythmbox

I also tried starting them from cmdline, so vlc gave some output (at some time)
VLC media player 0.8.6e Janus
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:874:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
[0338] jack audio output error: failed to connect to JACK server
[0338] oss audio output error: cannot open audio device (/dev/dsp)
[0338] main audio output error: couldn't find a filter for the conversion
[0338] main audio output error: couldn't create audio output pipeline
[0390] a52 decoder: A/52 channels:2 samplerate:48000 bitrate:192000
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:874:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave

in my sound playback settings Autodetect is mostly set
when vlc is playing they give no sound when testing,
but if I chose ALSA, the tests do ok, and the conflicts dissapear
if I choose pulse.., the problem appears again

so I am not sure if this is more vlc or more pulse-audio issue

[Bug 213067] [NEW] Desktop localized folder name causes missunderstandings with some p

2008-04-06 Thread Jurgis Pralgauskis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xdg-user-dirs

I was explained that this is the standart of freedesktop.org and the
localized versions are stored ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs

but some older projects for various reasons sometimes have hardcoded ~/Desktop
or ~/Documents
could hardy have at least symlinks to Desktop and Documents when renaming the
real ones?
