[Bug 1181693] [NEW] change screen brightness keys (fn) does not work on Dell XPS L702X laptop in Ubuntu 12.10 also screen brightness can not be changed or modified using any other settings
Public bug reported: Screen brightness can not be changed at all in Ubuntu 12.10 as well as previous versions (Ubuntu 12.04 as well). This bug still has not been fixed for a long time. The brightness control buttons on the laptop (fn) also does not work. This is on a Dell XPS L702X laptop. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181693 Title: change screen brightness keys (fn) does not work on Dell XPS L702X laptop in Ubuntu 12.10 also screen brightness can not be changed or modified using any other settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1181693/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 762670] Re: Laptop brightness on Dell XPS not controllable
Why does my xorg.conf file look like the following and not like Hemantkumar Gaswami's xorg.conf file? This is what I have: Section "Device" Identifier "Default Device" Option "NoLogo""True" EndSection -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762670 Title: Laptop brightness on Dell XPS not controllable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/762670/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 762670] Re: Laptop brightness on Dell XPS not controllable
For the non-tecnically minded could someone please explain exactly what to type or do to: "add the following to xorg.conf: Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1" I have no idea how to add this to the xorg.conf file. This bug is extremely irritating. When the laptop enters power saving mode and you wake it up from a blank screen the screen is extremely bright and almost unusable even though the screen was dim and had a good screen brightness before powersaving mode. There are a number of other very dissapointing bugs/ things that are wrong with Ubuntu 12.04 running on my Dell XPS L702X laptop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762670 Title: Laptop brightness on Dell XPS not controllable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/762670/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 528720] Re: Keyboard stuck with irqbalance
I bought a new Nvidia card, installed the default Nvidia drivers through synaptic and the "freezing" problem has disappeared. This PC previously had no graphics card except for an onboard built-in intel graphics chip that didn't seem to do very much. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528720 Title: Keyboard stuck with irqbalance -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 528720] Re: Keyboard stuck with irqbalance
My PC with a Nvidia card works perfectly and is not affected by this bug and my PC without Nvidia card (without any graphics card at all ) is badly affected by this bug to the extent that Ubuntu 10.04 is unusable (some of the programs I would like to run like blender3D freeze as soon as I move the mouse cursor in 3D space). This problem also affected this PC in Ubuntu 9.10 (when I noticed it for the first time). I would have to agree with Kron K's comments that this might be a graphics issue. I'm not convinced that this bug is totally a keyboard and mouse issue. Although the PC affected doesn't have graphics card installed it does seem to have a built-in intel type graphics chip with a minimal amount of memory to speed to 3D graphics minimally. Also the program most badly affected by freezing uses 3D graphics extensively. When I first installed Ubuntu 10.04 it froze almost immediately on start-up every time but after selecting to boot in safe graphics mode the problem essentially seemed to disappear but I still can't run Blender3D in Ubuntu 10.04 because it still freezes every time. -- Keyboard stuck with irqbalance https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528720 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 586471] Re: Mouse & keyboard freeze at logon screen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 528720 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528720 With reference to Anthony Bodle's comment on 2010-05-27 that states : " Booting in recovery mode and selecting low graphics option also results in a stable system." This is false. I've tried this and it is not true for all programs accessed. Most programs appear stable but I get a total "freeze" where nothing works as soon as I start Blender and try to move an object around in 3D space even though I have booted in recovery mode and selected low graphics option. This "freeze" happens every time. -- Mouse & keyboard freeze at logon screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/586471 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 577183] Re: keyboard and/or mouse freezing
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 528720 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528720 I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and have similar "freezes" as the above posts. The screen finishes loading and all the menus and desktop loads fine but just as soon as I moved the mouse cursor it freezes (mouse, keyboard, everything) and I have to press reset. After I rebooted and selected recovery mode and then low-graphics mode I had no freezes and no problems using any program I have installed except (and most importantly) Blender (3D animation software). As soon as I start Blender and move the cursor and start selecting or moving objects in 3D space it freezes like clockwork every time. I use Blender a lot so I can't use Ubuntu without it. strangely enough after rebooting after using safe graphics mode it doesn't freeze again unless I use Blender but I really don't think it is a problem with Blender. I suspect this is a graphics problem as well as a hardware recognition / hardware support problem. I have the same problem when I install Ubuntu 9.10 on this PC so this can't be a new bug because everything worked fine in Ubuntu 9.04 on this PC. From Ubuntu 9.10 onwards it is totally hopeless. My PC that freezes with ubuntu 10.04 and 9.10 is my newer PC, a Core2 Duo (several years old but much faster and newer than my other one). I don't have a 3D graphics card for this PC but it does seem to have a built in 3D chip on the motherboard that doesn't seem to do much or increase performance much. I have used Ubuntu 10.04 on my other much older PC (Pentium 4 1.8 ghz PC with 250mb Nvidia geforce 5200 graphics card and 1000 MB ram memory) and it works without freezing on this PC but I was hoping to be able to get Ubuntu 10.04 working smoothly on my faster PC. -- keyboard and/or mouse freezing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577183 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
