[Bug 523570] [NEW] Unable to install, sata (sda) drive not appearing in partitioner...
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity During the Install process I am unable to find my 320gb seagate sata2 hd, the installer however detects my 1tb seagate sata drive. During the install after working my way through the installer the partition manager begins to load slows around 47% after a short pause finishes, but does not advance for approximately 3mins to the partitioner screen. Once at the partitioner screen it only shows the Terabyte drive (sdb) and no option to select sda drive. If I open the disk utilities I can mount, add, delete partitions from the sda drive, so I have tried to the installer with sda mounted...unmounted, clear space on the drive I have installed many versions of linux over the last couple of years using the installers, but hadn't encountered this one on my system... somehow I get the impression this is going to involve me recompiling my kernel... lol My sys Intel Core 2 E8400 Asus P5Qpro Mb 2gb firestix ram Nvidia 9600 512mb vid card Want to dual boot with Vista (since I like to game) yes I've used Cedega with decent results any ideas would be appreciated. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Unable to install, sata (sda) drive not appearing in partitioner... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/523570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I think this bug has been fixed by this patch: * debian/patches/00_fix_xfwm4_hang.patch: fixes system freeze when linked with gtk2 2.11.x (see Xfce #3346) Since I updated it on Aug. 2, no system freeze any more by using xfwm4. [Bug 123463] Re: gutsy system freezes
I am suffering this bug all through July (since upgraded to Gutsy) And I did search on google for any help, but it is a little strange , it seems nobody met such a problem. At the beginning I met this problem, I though it should be a XFWM4 bug. Even if I keep updating every day, this problem always occurs till today ( Aug. 2). But I have a workaround , that's , using metacity (the default window manager of GNOME) to replace XFWM4 every time when I login XFCE4. This works well. (Of course I am keeping updating every day to confirm whether or not it has been fixed some day). This morning, when I updated Gutsy, I noticed the bug fix log * debian/patches/00_fix_xfwm4_hang.patch: fixes system freeze when linked with gtk2 2.11.x (see Xfce #3346). . Huh, maybe this fix would work for this problem? Now I am using XFWM4 ( not metacity ) , till now no freezing. -- gutsy system freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123463 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 123463] Re: gutsy system freezes
Some information: 1) Reproduce: It's easier to reproduce it if you keep following software running all together: ■ WM setting: Window gets focus while mouse pointer moves over. ■ terminal (xfce4-terminal or gnome-terminal ) ■ firefox ■ gthumb (with a picture file opened ) ■ gimp ( with a picture file opened ) ■ thunar then keep switching between those windows, and do some operations you like, such as: move window, resize window, etc. 2) Emergency solution: Once you find any window does not responding, stop any operation IMMEDIATELY. (if you keep doing some operations, e.g. click in other window, try to switch to other workspace, etc. the system will freeze completely, that means you have no choice except shutting down) Then press CTRL-ALT-BKSPC , this can restart X, and you can login again. -- gutsy system freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123463 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
