That fix (nvidia driver) is still not available for 64bit. I can't find

The fix in the comments there worked for me. Not an excuse as to why
the kernel bug exists now, but it is a temporary solution until a
developer hopefully notices the bug they added and fixes it.

[Bug 280657] Re: Intrepid kernel 2.6.27-6 no supported image sensor dected for SN9C105 (045e, 00f7)

2009-01-05 Thread KWolf
As of 2.6.27-10 the bug is still present with my VX-3000. Yes, this bug
affects the VX-3000 as well as the VX-1000 in case the devs weren't
sure.

Following the instructions given by pgreenland above resolved the issue
(fwiw, I did not have to disable the driver he mentioned during
installation). I'm going to be sad if I have to keep recompiling the
drivers for each new kernel though.

When will there be a kernel with the newer drivers for the VX-1000 and
VX-3000 webcams already included?

2009-01-03 Thread KWolf
I saw someone made a patch here for a similar bug for a different phone:

Any chance we can see it for the devices mentioned here? And why did
they used to work, but not anymore? From a stability perspective, if
these drives are suddenly not going to work, they should not be causing
100% cpu usage log spam when plugged in either...

[Bug 312802] [NEW] Iomega External USB HDD not showing in /dev, causing high CPU usage

2008-12-31 Thread KWolf
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10) with latest updates as well as Jaunty
(9.04) with latest updates:

My Iomega External USB HDD fails to show in /dev/, it never tries to
mount, and causes very high cpu usage probably due to my dmesg being
spammed up with the same two lines every millisecond until I unplug the
drive. When I say it fails to show in /dev/, I mean that there is no
/dev/sdb, telling it to mount /dev/sdb to somewhere yields the error
that /dev/sdb does not exist, despite the dmesg log clearly referring to
the drive as sdb. The drive worked on Gutsy 7.10 which was the last
time I have used Ubuntu linux, and a quick google reveals people with
the same problem had the drive working up to kernel 2.6.24 or 2.6.25.
I've tried and replicated this problem on two different PCs by
installing and updating Intrepid on them. The same PCs (with vastly
different hardware) with Windows XP or Gutsy 7.10 installed have no
issue with the drive, neither does my friend's Macbook Pro or my Vista
desktop - the drive itself is fine.

This bug may be a duplicate of #302960 - HOWEVER, I saw mention of the
Nokia 5310 in the changelog for kernel 2.6.28 but no mention of Iomega
anywhere. The Nokia could very well be working now (I don't have one to
test) but my drive definitely still does not work with kernel 2.6.28 -
and I'd hate to have the Nokia ticket closed as fixed with my drive
still not working, which is why I created this bug report.

I attached uname -a, dmesg before I plug drive in, dmesg right after I
plug drive in, dmesg 10 seconds later when high cpu starts, lspci -vvnn
with drive plugged in, and lsusb -v with drive plugged in. I haven't
updated this pc with the latest Intrepid updates yet, however the
updates do not matter as I've tried on another pc with the updates
installed with same issue occuring.

Here is a sample of what is in my dmesg log when the problem is in action:
[ 1098.962847] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Add. Sense: No additional sense information
[ 1098.963971] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Sense Key : No Sense [current]

[ 1098.967468] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Sense Key : No Sense [current]
(continues indefinitely until drive is unplugged)

Please do not hesitate to ask for more information, just tell me how to
get it (me very noob) - I'd love to see this fixed so I can actually use
my laptop to watch my videos which are all stored on the external hdd.

spammed full of that sense crap. (Laptop will -not- boot if usb hdd is
attached, it will hang indefinitely with the progress bar 1/8 thru until
It's unplugged, so the dmesg.log will be without the drive attached and
thus without the sense error spam)

3: attached (the drive was connected when I did this not sure if that
matters)

Please fix this ASAP, It's a huge showstopper for me and anyone else
with the same issue who uses their external drives for all their media.
FWIW, the drive worked with older kernels (last time I tried was years
ago lol), it works on OS X, and it works on XP and V*sta.

It does not happen every time to me either!

However, even when it does not happen, the PC does not shut down. It
hangs at a black screen. I think Ubuntu isn't handling this
computer's ACPI well. For example, when I hit the button on the front
of the PC it instantly shuts off, where that should run software
shutdown sequences first.

I have the same problem on the Dell Optiplex G240 here. The system
stops shutting down and shows this:

NetworkManager: WARN nm_hal_deinit(): libhal shutdown failed -
connection is closed

as the last message on the screen. If I hit ESC it will reboot. It is
important to note that of the 3 (different) PCs I have installed Ubuntu
on this is the only one with this problem. Dunno what makes this one so
different. It's running a 3c905-TX (3c59x driver) as the NIC if that is
of importance.
