[Bug 1652585] Re: Fonts are borken after suspend/resume somtimes
I can give that a try, but I'm not sure I can reproduce this issue in Unity. Do the daily builds have the option of running XFCE? Also, it could be a while until I can confirm this, I don't have an easy test case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1652585 Title: Fonts are borken after suspend/resume somtimes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1652585/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1652585] [NEW] Fonts are borken after suspend/resume somtimes
Public bug reported: Occasionally, when coming out of a suspend and getting past the light locker screen, font rendering broken. Application windows are missing most but not all letters, and text for icons on the desktop is blurry. Already open terminal windows won't have any text, but sometimes opening a new terminal window does have working text for the terminal, even though the text in the menu bar is broken. Programs like Thunderbird often still display text unless they are forced to re-render the window, at which point the fonts also disappear. Firefox still renders web pages but is missing the text in the menu bars. This seems similar to bug #1434351 to me, but I was asked by Christopher Penalver to open a new bug, so here we go. I'm currently running with an xorg.conf suggested as a workaround for #1434351, the bug itself manifested with the default Xorg settings (no xorg.conf file). But as the bug only occurs occasionally, it's too early to say if the workaround actually works. Interesting. I wasn't aware the installer changed the partition table for me. That might need to be made more obvious. Right, our bug reporter investigated this a bit further, and it turns out that removing libpam-smbpass fixes the crash, and reinstalling libpam-smbpass causes the crash to happen again. [Bug 1015935] [NEW] SWAT segfaults when trying to view full configuration
Public bug reported: When running swat on a 32bit 12.04 install, swat segfaults when the user clicks on the Full View button in the configuration menu. This was reported to upstream under https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8999 but can only be reproduced with the distro packages. swat crashes with the following backtrace (sorry for the missing debug symbols, the samba-dbg package doesn't seem to help gdb getting debug symbols for swat): (gdb) bt #0 0xb72340c0 in ?? [Bug 790863] Re: Unable to start lxc container after update to 2.6.32-32
Earlier this year the LTS-backport kernels didn't have a valid header package, thus breaking dkms-based kernel modules, see bug #824080 . [Bug 847828] [NEW] linux-headers-2.6.35-30-generic fails to install because linux-headers-2.6.35-30 is a virtual package
Public bug reported: While trying to install linux-headers-2.6.35-30-generic, I'm getting an error about broken dependencies for linux-headers-2.6.35-30, which is a virtual package only. [Bug 302148] Re: Installing wine starts winbindd as a daemon
Some comments as the author of the Wine code that makes use of ntlm_auth here. First and foremost, ntlm_auth works just fine without winbindd running in client mode. This is the mode that most of the Wine users that need NTLM auth will use. A good use case would be using Outlook against Exchange with crypto enabled. winbindd is only needed if the user is trying to authenticate users, for example for running RPC servers. That said, most Wine users probably run games and not Outlook, so they never use NTLM (there's games and IM clients that support NTLM, but they're probably a minority). I don't have the impression that the average Ubuntu user is running in an office environment. So while in my opinion the real cause for the breakage is that installing winbindd fiddles with your PAM settings, I guess the best fix that'll hurt the least number of users is to downgrade winbind from Recommends to Suggests. I find it regrettable that GUI package managers automagically pull in Recommends and never mention Suggests, but that is probably done to make life easier for the average user as well. To sum up, while the view that ntlm_auth is useless without winbind is wrong, I guess the suggested fix is the least pain for the least amount of work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302148 Title: Installing wine starts winbindd as a daemon -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 502149] Re: winbindd service and ntlm_auth
Being the person responsible for the Wine dependency, here's my take on this: ntlm_auth without winbindd is technically useless for about every use case besides the (still) limited way Wine uses it. Given that most package managers go and install recommends, you'd then get (at best) Wine recommending ntlm_auth recommending winbindd, which (for all my understanding of packaging) would still leave you with winbindd being installed. In the future (depending on how soon I get around to work on this again), the coupling between Wine and the Samba Authentication service (aka winbindd) will increase. Given that most other distros also package ntlm_auth with the winbind package, I'm not convinced Ubuntu should deviate from the packaging single-handedly. Of course that's the Ubuntu packager's decision, not mine. I'd say if winbindd starting up really bothers you more than the fact that Wine is installed but never used, I'd suggest you just update-rc.d -f winbindd remove (or however you do the same with the new system). -- winbindd service and ntlm_auth https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502149 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 453579] Re: corruption of large files reported with linux 2.6.31-14.46 on ext4
I'm seeing this on 2.6.31.4 of the beagleboard armel kernel from Launchpad. However, this might be a false alarm on my side, pointing at a hardware issue instead. I've reformatted the partition to ext3 and I'm still seeing similar effects. This is an external USB drive, which might be one part of the issue. [Bug 392828] Re: security.ubuntu.com not reachable via IPv6
Assuming you don't have IPv6 networking yet, here is a short instruction on how to get connected. Use a tunnel broker like SixXS to acquire an IPv6 tunnel, or maybe your provider can actually hook you up with IPv6 (I'm told the dutch provider XS4All actually offers that, mine doesn't). To get started with SixXS, see http://www.sixxs.net/faq/account/?faq=10steps for 10 easy steps to IPv6. Once you have your tunnel set up, you need to apply for an IPv6 network range, as you need a separate machine to test IPv6 only networking if you run a tunnel. SixXS provides documentation on how to set up the network range. A virtual machine in KVM works just fine, that's what I'm using myself, I have not tried with VirtualBox and VMware can't do IPv6 for all I know. Once your IPv6 only machine is set up and can e.g. ping6 ipv6.google.com, just turn off the ipv4 addresses. Verify that you don't have an IPv4 route to the internet anymore. Now try to apt-get update and you will find that security.ubuntu.com is unreachable. -- security.ubuntu.com not reachable via IPv6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/392828 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 392548] [NEW] networking broken after system returns from suspend to disk
Public bug reported: Running an ubuntu 9.04 server install in an ubuntu 8.04 kvm with bridged networking. After installing the pm-utils package in the guest, pm-hibernate works. Once the guest wakes up from suspend, no data can be sent over the ethernet. Simply reloading the networking via /etc/init.d/network reload does not fix the issue, only a reboot seems to help. The interface still is up and has associated IP addresses, but getting data out does not seem to work. From the host side of things, networking of e.g. Windows guests works fine after they return from a suspend. However the Windows guests were not configured to use virt-io networking.
