[Bug 372574] [NEW] [needs-packaging] tablet-apps

2009-05-05 Thread Karl Ostmo
Public bug reported:

The gnome wacom applet is a small gnome panel applet that shows how much
pressure is being applied to your wacom tablet by the current device.
Clicking on the panel icon brings up a dialog allowing you to select a
different device and check what pressure and tilt information is being
recieved from it. This dialog also contains a small drawing test area to
give your pen a quick test.

[Bug 373115] [NEW] wired network briefly disconnects when starting a torrent

2009-05-07 Thread Karl Ostmo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I'm not sure if this is a bug in network-manager or the transmission
bittorrent client. When I initiate a new torrent with Transmission
(e.g.
http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/9.04/ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso.torrent),
the wired network disconnects. I used to use a wireless network card
instead and it did the same thing. It happens almost every time, it
seems, when there are no torrents running and a new one is added.

The network reconnects shortly beginning the torrent, and is fine
afterward.

[Bug 362260] Re: Segmenation Fault when showing Texture Actor

2009-05-07 Thread Karl Ostmo
Using pyclutter 0.8.0 here.

On an amd64 Ubuntu Jaunty machine, using Version 180 of the NVidia driver and
an integrated GeForce 6100 graphics chip, all of the bundled examples except
for "behave.py", "rects.py" and "script.py" fail with the message:
Cogl-GL-WARNING **: failed to bind GLXGetProcAddress or GLXGetProcAddressARB

Also tested on two i386 Ubuntu Jaunty machines, one with a GeForce 8800
GTS card and the other with an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 chip. All of
the examples worked on these machines (except for ending with a segfault
when closed, reported in this bug:
http://bugzilla.o-hand.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1590).

[Bug 337592] [NEW] "closed" signal handler does not fire

[Bug 340888] [NEW] [needs-packaging] ppower for CM11A X10 device

2009-03-10 Thread Karl Ostmo
Public bug reported:

As detailed in Bug 300130, the support for X10 in Ubuntu is poor. The
"heyu" program has license issues precluding its packaging. "ppower",
on the other hand, is GPL'd. I have tested it on my CM11A modules. It
works.

http://ppower.sourceforge.net/

Other programs advertising the capability to control the CM11A include "x10bot"
and ""x10dev" (aka Project WiSH), but I haven't tried them.

[Bug 300130] Re: package heyu needed for X10 home automation support

2009-03-10 Thread Karl Ostmo
I have found some posts regarding licensing on the heyu mailing list.

Someone who wrote a commercial iPhone app which depended on a redistributed
version of heyu was confronted:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/heyu_users/message/2319

Here is an inquiry from an individual who wished to host an RPM of the package:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/heyu_users/message/2486

These responses don't bode well for inclusion in Ubuntu.
I have filed Bug 340888 against a program that at least has support for the
CM11A.

[Bug 188539] Re: cvCalibrateCamera2 broken in python-opencv

2009-01-08 Thread Karl Ostmo
I have determined what was wrong with my usage. The third argument to
the Python function cv.cvCalibrateCamera2 must be a one-dimensional
matrix of integers (e.g. type cv.CV_32SC1). The cv.cvmSet function will
interpret its value argument as a "double", regardless of whether it was
an "int" to begin with. If this function is used to populate the values
of a matrix of type cv.CV_32SC1, the values seem to be incorrectly
reinterpreted as integers on the binary level, rather than simply
truncating the fractional part. Thus, when populating the matrix of
integers in Python, one must use the array notation, rather than cvmSet.

This works:
point_counts[3] = 15

while this does not:
cv.cvmSet(point_counts, 3, 0, 15)

A correct call to cv.cvCalibrateCamera2 would look like this:

intrinsic, distortion = cv.cvCalibrateCamera2(
object_points_matrix, # Object points: a 3xN matrix, listing
all the points in all the images
corners_matrix, # Image points: a 2xN matrix, listing all the
2D points in all the images
point_counts, # A vector (i.e. 1xM matrix) of point counts
per image
frame_size # Image size, type CvSize
)

[Bug 118522] Re: Word wrap is too commonly changed to be in preferences, should be a menu

2008-12-19 Thread Karl Ostmo
Thanks, Dawid. I tried to reproduce the bug you mention, but for me it
did preserve the wrap settings on my machine after saving.

The sequence of events I tried was:
1) Load a file with long lines. Text wrapping was disabled in my Preferences,
so the initial state was "NOWRAP".
2) Pressed CTRL+R. Wrapping state was changed to "WRAP".
3) Made a change to the file. Saved with CTRL+S. Wrapping state remained as
"WRAP".
4) Pressed CTRL+R again. Wrapping state was changed back to "NOWRAP".
5) Made another change to the file. Saved with CTRL+S. Wrapping state
remained as "NOWRAP".

Is this not what happens on your machine? If not, maybe you can provide
more details.

[Bug 242910] [NEW] [needs-packaging] pyrocket

2008-06-25 Thread Karl Ostmo

I can confirm this problem with a CH Flightstick USB joystick on Ubuntu

[Bug 260292] [NEW] pymissile package is outdated, maybe obsolete

2008-08-22 Thread Karl Ostmo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pymissile

The package's short description is: "Control Marks and Spencer USB
Missile Launcher"

The software author has a video of the particular device in action
(http://scott.weston.id.au/software/pymissile/). The problem is, there
are two hardware versions of this device -- the original, unbranded (see
http://www.cosky.com/usb_missile_launcher_of_the_year_award_2006) model
shown in the video, and a new model with a built-in laser, branded as
"Striker II". These two models apparently have the same USB
Vendor/Product ID's, because I have the new version, and it is detected
when I run pymissile. When no "compatible" devices are detected, the
program outputs "No WMDs found." and exits. However, I am not able to
control my Striker II device with the program. The videos clearly show
the program worked at one time, but since then either the supporting
libraries included in Ubuntu have changed to render it nonfunctional, or
the communication protocol has changed with the new hardware model.

Marks and Spencer doesn't appear to sell the original toy anymore.
Their only items related to USB are here:
http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/search/202-8710768-0860637?ie=UTF8&flatten=1&rs=42966030&node=42966030
&search-alias=MandS&keywords=USB&mnSBrand=core&field-merchant-
id=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&rh=n%3A42966030%2Ck%3AUSB&field-keywords=USB&page=1

I've found one place in the UK that apparently still sells it
(http://www.usbnow.co.uk/Gifts_&_Gadgets-
Novelty/c65_78/p322/USB_Missile_Launcher/product_info.html), although
details are scant enough that they may actually be selling the new
model; everywhere else (e.g. http://www.kleargear.com/5004.html) is out
of stock (likely permanently).

It is somewhat of a mystery who made the original model, but the most relevant
Google hit seems to indicate that a company called "Ninja Gizmos" is the
manufacturer of the improved, Striker II launcher, since they provide an API as
a download:
http://www.ninjagizmos.com/images/Cubicle/Striker_II_USB_Laser_Guided_Missile_Launcher

There's reason enough to keep the pymissile package around, if it
actually still works on the original launcher, as there are undoubtedly
many of the original toys floating around (e.g.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV6573UjSpc&NR=1). The real question is
what to call the launcher (to disambiguate it with other rocket
launchers), since it is certainly *not* "Marks and Spencer" any longer.

I propose changing the short description to "Control original Striker
USB Missile Launcher".

Disclosure: I have written a program to control all the other models of
USB missile launchers (http://pyrocket.googlecode.com/), and am looking
for advocates to get the package
(http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/details.py?upid=3406) into Ubuntu.

[Bug 180654] Re: [r100] rendering artifacts: intermittent vertical lines on right side of round shapes

2008-08-24 Thread Karl Ostmo
I downloaded and installed Intrepid Alpha 4. I spent several minutes
with my Python testcase trying to get the artifacts to appear, but the
bug appears to be fixed! Good job!

I was not able to enable Desktop Effects with the Intrepid fresh
installation, but I suppose that's a different problem. `glxinfo` says
that Direct Rendering is enabled, but I'm not sure how to tell what
display driver is in use; xorg.conf looks a lot shorter than it used to
be, the "ati" string is nowhere to be found.

[Bug 242910] [NEW] [needs-packaging] pyrocket

2008-06-25 Thread Karl Ostmo
Public bug reported:

pyrocket is a PyGTK application to operate the Dream Cheeky Rocket
Launcher from Linux. The .deb installer will give user-permissions to
the USB device. Automatic detection of the launcher device and a
joystick is performed at runtime. The device's limit switches are
monitored via USB so as not to damage the turret motors.

This package is for a different device than the "pymissile" package.

Source is available on my PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~kostmo/+archive
More info about the application is here:

This works:
point_counts[3] = 15

while this does not:
cv.cvmSet(point_counts, 3, 0, 15)

A correct call to cv.cvCalibrateCamera2 would look like this:

intrinsic, distortion = cv.cvCalibrateCamera2(
object_points_matrix, # Object points: a 3xN matrix, listing
all the points in all the images
corners_matrix, # Image points: a 2xN matrix, listing all the
2D points in all the images
point_counts, # A vector (i.e. 1xM matrix) of point counts
per image
frame_size # Image size, type CvSize
)

[Bug 118522] Re: Word wrap is too commonly changed to be in preferences, should be a menu

Attached is an update to the text-wrap plugin. It shows wrapping state
in the status bar and takes care of the inconsistent checkbox state when
tabs are switched.

[Bug 118522] Re: Word wrap is too commonly changed to be in preferences, should be a menu

2008-12-19 Thread Karl Ostmo
Thanks, Dawid. I tried to reproduce the bug you mention, but for me it
did preserve the wrap settings on my machine after saving.

The sequence of events I tried was:
1) Load a file with long lines. Text wrapping was disabled in my Preferences,
so the initial state was "NOWRAP".
2) Pressed CTRL+R. Wrapping state was changed to "WRAP".
3) Made a change to the file. Saved with CTRL+S. Wrapping state remained as
"WRAP".
4) Pressed CTRL+R again. Wrapping state was changed back to "NOWRAP".
5) Made another change to the file. Saved with CTRL+S. Wrapping state
remained as "NOWRAP".

Is this not what happens on your machine? If not, maybe you can provide
more details.

2008-12-19 Thread Karl Ostmo
I have a 6-year-old Compaq Evo laptop and the keyboard and mouse would
be frozen after resuming from suspend (the cursor in the password dialog
box would blink, however). I am running Ubuntu 8.10 with kernel
2.6.24-21-generic.

Thankfully, this script worked like a charm!

This works:
point_counts[3] = 15

while this does not:
cv.cvmSet(point_counts, 3, 0, 15)

A correct call to cv.cvCalibrateCamera2 would look like this:

intrinsic, distortion = cv.cvCalibrateCamera2(
object_points_matrix, # Object points: a 3xN matrix, listing
all the points in all the images
corners_matrix, # Image points: a 2xN matrix, listing all the
2D points in all the images
point_counts, # A vector (i.e. 1xM matrix) of point counts
per image
frame_size # Image size, type CvSize
)

[Bug 242910] [NEW] [needs-packaging] pyrocket

2008-06-25 Thread Karl Ostmo
Public bug reported:

pyrocket is a PyGTK application to operate the Dream Cheeky Rocket
Launcher from Linux. The .deb installer will give user-permissions to
the USB device. Automatic detection of the launcher device and a
joystick is performed at runtime. The device's limit switches are
monitored via USB so as not to damage the turret motors.

This package is for a different device than the "pymissile" package.

Source is available on my PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~kostmo/+archive
More info about the application is here:

[Bug 260292] [NEW] pymissile package is outdated, maybe obsolete

2008-08-22 Thread Karl Ostmo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pymissile

The package's short description is: "Control Marks and Spencer USB
Missile Launcher"

The software author has a video of the particular device in action
(http://scott.weston.id.au/software/pymissile/). The problem is, there
are two hardware versions of this device -- the original, unbranded (see
http://www.cosky.com/usb_missile_launcher_of_the_year_award_2006) model
shown in the video, and a new model with a built-in laser, branded as
"Striker II". These two models apparently have the same USB
Vendor/Product ID's, because I have the new version, and it is detected
when I run pymissile. When no "compatible" devices are detected, the
program outputs "No WMDs found." and exits. However, I am not able to
control my Striker II device with the program. The videos clearly show
the program worked at one time, but since then either the supporting
libraries included in Ubuntu have changed to render it nonfunctional, or
the communication protocol has changed with the new hardware model.

Marks and Spencer doesn't appear to sell the original toy anymore.
Their only items related to USB are here:
http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/search/202-8710768-0860637?ie=UTF8&flatten=1&rs=42966030&node=42966030

id=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&rh=n%3A42966030%2Ck%3AUSB&field-keywords=USB&page=1

I've found one place in the UK that apparently still sells it
(http://www.usbnow.co.uk/Gifts_&_Gadgets-
Novelty/c65_78/p322/USB_Missile_Launcher/product_info.html), although
details are scant enough that they may actually be selling the new
model; everywhere else (e.g. http://www.kleargear.com/5004.html) is out
of stock (likely permanently).

It is somewhat of a mystery who made the original model, but the most relevant
Google hit seems to indicate that a company called "Ninja Gizmos" is the
manufacturer of the improved, Striker II launcher, since they provide an API as
a download:
http://www.ninjagizmos.com/images/Cubicle/Striker_II_USB_Laser_Guided_Missile_Launcher

There's reason enough to keep the pymissile package around, if it
actually still works on the original launcher, as there are undoubtedly
many of the original toys floating around (e.g.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV6573UjSpc&NR=1). The real question is
what to call the launcher (to disambiguate it with other rocket
launchers), since it is certainly *not* "Marks and Spencer" any longer.

I propose changing the short description to "Control original Striker
USB Missile Launcher".

Disclosure: I have written a program to control all the other models of
USB missile launchers (http://pyrocket.googlecode.com/), and am looking
for advocates to get the package
(http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/details.py?upid=3406) into Ubuntu.

[Bug 180654] Re: [r100] rendering artifacts: intermittent vertical lines on right side of round shapes

2008-08-24 Thread Karl Ostmo
I downloaded and installed Intrepid Alpha 4. I spent several minutes
with my Python testcase trying to get the artifacts to appear, but the
bug appears to be fixed! Good job!

I was not able to enable Desktop Effects with the Intrepid fresh
installation, but I suppose that's a different problem. `glxinfo` says
that Direct Rendering is enabled, but I'm not sure how to tell what
display driver is in use; xorg.conf looks a lot shorter than it used to
be, the "ati" string is nowhere to be found.

I can confirm this problem with a CH Flightstick USB joystick on Ubuntu

control my Striker II device with the program.

I've found one place in the UK that apparently still sells it
  (http://www.usbnow.co.uk/Gifts_&_Gadgets-
  Novelty/c65_78/p322/USB_Missile_Launcher/product_info.html), although
details are scant enough that they may actually be selling the new
model; everywhere else (e.g. http://www.kleargear.com/5004.html) is out
  of stock (likely permanently).

It is somewhat of a mystery who made the original model, but the most
relevant Google hit seems to indicate that a company called "Ninja Gizmos" is
the manufacturer of the improved, Striker II launcher, since they provide an
API as a download:

[Bug 108875] Re: CH produts do not initialize

2008-05-20 Thread Karl Ostmo
I can confirm this problem with a CH Flightstick USB joystick on Ubuntu
8.04. On the initial connect, the output of "dmesg | grep usb" is:

[ 126.832253] usb 1-2: new low speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2

After this initial connect, jstest finds the Flightstick, but does not respond
to button presses. After plug cycling, jstest works flawlessly. Full output

This procedure of unplugging and plugging back in must be repeated every time
the computer is rebooted, which is especially inconvenient. Other joysticks I
have connected (e.g. "Logitech, Inc. Dual Action Gamepad") work correctly on
the first try.

[Bug 108875] Re: CH produts do not initialize

2008-05-20 Thread Karl Ostmo
Correction to above:
The joystick in question was a CH Products "Fighterstick" USB joystick.

Vendor website is here:
http://www.chproducts.com/retail/j_fighter_usb.html

Also listed on "Linux USB Device Overview" website:
http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=2844
