[Bug 1784152] Re: i2c_hid_get_input floods system logs
This is happening to me too on an Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-515J. [Bug 1427646] [NEW] Asus X200MA Black Screen with Kernel 3.13.0-45 and -46
Public bug reported: Filing this report was recommended to me in the thread to report 1416849 "Booted into blank screen after the security update..." I also use an Asus X200MA with Ubuntu 14.04 and have had the same issue i.e. a black screen since the update from 3.13.0-40 to 3.13.0-45. The update to 3.13.0-46 didn't help so I'm back to using 3.13.0-40. I tried Christopher Penalver's suggestion and upgraded the BIOS to the latest version 504 (from November 2014). [Bug 788298] Re: grub-reboot changes boot default permanently on Lucid LTS
Regarding the problem of grub-reboot not working with /boot on a RAID array (and in my case not being able to boot back into Ubuntu), I would be happy with a timed default. It wouldn't require GRUB_DEFAULT=saved or grubenv. As I imagine it, a user who normally uses e.g. GRUB_DEFAULT=0 would edit /etc/default/grub to add something like: GRUB_TIMED_DEFAULT=6 300 # set the default menu entry to 6 for 300 seconds from when grub.cfg is generated Then the user would run grub-update and it would result in something like the following in grub.cfg (using bash command substitution to get the date but perhaps a special environment variable could be added): ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then load_env fi set default="0" if [ $(date +%s) -le 1319894091 ] ; then # grub-update at Sat Oct 29 15:09:51 CEST 2011; date is 300 seconds in future set default="6" fi if [ ${prev_saved_entry} ]; then ... If the user reboots at any point in time in the next 300 seconds then the default menu entry would be 6, after that it would be 0. To guard against a user forgetting that a timed default setting is present grub- update could issue an "are you sure" prompt. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788298 Title: grub-reboot changes boot default permanently on Lucid LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/788298/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 542334] Re: boot fails [...] ureadahead [...] terminated with status 5
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 with a separate /var partition and afterwards I too was getting a "ureadahead main process (xxx) terminated with status 5" message along with having no pack files in /var/lib/ureadahead. The system boots normally otherwise however. It seems that if /var is separate then the fix called for is changing "start on starting mountall" to "start on mounted MOUNTPOINT=/var" in /etc/init/ureadahead.conf (as in comment #23; if /var is not separate then the fix apparently called for is to reinstall ureadahead). This did indeed eliminate the message in my case and pack files are now being created. But if I read the comments here and under bug 432360 correctly then the message was just a warning that ureadahead could not read the pack files from /var because /var wasn't mounted yet and so boot performance could not be improved. Telling ureadahead to start only once /var is mounted eliminates the message but defeats the purpose of ureadahead (faster booting). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/542334 Title: boot fails [...] ureadahead [...] terminated with status 5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ureadahead/+bug/542334/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 506502] Re: Touchpad not properly recognized on Acer Aspire 5738
I've done more research and found that this problem in one form or another (touchpad recognized as wheel mouse on various machines with various linux versions) goes back years - some reports date to 2006. I don't know quite what to make of that yet, being new to Linux, but this report should probably be marked as a duplicate of e.g. 418282, which describes the problem with Asus machines and Elantech touchpads. That report also indicates that using tpconfig to determine the touchpad type is useless, so in fact despite a lot of searching I don't really know what kind of touchpad I have nor how to go about determining it. I know that this problem affects other Acer 5738 users, as I've seen recent Ubuntu forum posts about it, but no one seemed to have reported it as a bug. -- Touchpad not properly recognized on Acer Aspire 5738 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 506502] [NEW] Touchpad not properly recognized on Acer Aspire 5738
Public bug reported: The touchpad works but is very tap insensitive, and at times simply does not respond without moving the mouse and trying again. There is no touchpad tab in Mouse Preferences (System|Preferences|Mouse) to configure it. Programs like xinput, lshw, and lshal show only references to ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse, PS/2 mouse support, Macintosh mouse emulation, etc. I installed tpconfig and tpconfig -i shows that a Synaptic touchpad is installed: Found Synaptics Touchpad. Firmware: 8.96 (multiple-byte mode). Sensor type: unknown (0). Geometry: rectangular/landscape/up. Packets: absolute, 80 packets per second. Corner taps disabled; no tap gestures. Edge motion: none. Z threshold: 6 of 7. 2 button mode; corner tap is right button click. However, I'd be surprised if the Z threshold value were accurate, and tpconfig -z 7 to change it has no effect.
