[Bug 1348418] Re: PPC: Alternate installation boot to black screen

2014-07-28 Thread Keith Rogers
This bug is also present in Debian Jessie (SID).

I installed Debian Jessie (SID) on the same Powermac G4 MDD and
experienced the same problem. The solution is the same; use a boot
parameter to get the graghical interface. However, the boot parameter
isn't remembered with Jessie, either.

I'm sure one can add the boot parameter manually to the etc/modules (I
think) and get around this issue. I haven't done that yet.

Do I need to add any more logs to this report?

[Bug 1348418] [NEW] PPC: Alternate installation boot to black screen

2014-07-24 Thread Keith Rogers
Public bug reported:

Alternate Installer via usb flash drive.

The installation proceeded without a problem. Upon initial reboot,
computer display stays black with only the arrow showing. The arrow can
be moved around. I was able to get to a console to file this bug.

I rebooted via the console and stopped the booting sequence with a TAB,
in order to type in the following boot parameter:

Linux video=radeonfb:1920x1080-32@60

The computer booted correctly and everything worked normally.

However, on subsequent reboot, the computer does not remember the boot
parameter, and it must be entered manually.

Re: [Bug 1257372] Re: Xubuntu/Lubuntu daily image does not lead to a working desktop in a live session

2013-12-09 Thread Keith Rogers
Hello,

I have a couple questions on this bug, and what package it is filed
against.

I filed a bug on this for the PPC Live CD--https://bugs.launchpad.net/
bugs/1258303. It was marked as a duplicate of this bug--https://
bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual-tests/+bug/1257372.

I used the linked page below to determine what package to file the bug
against:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Kernel

On the above mentioned page, it says:

"When installing Ubuntu (or Derivatives)

If you encounter a bug when installing Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, or
other derivatives, the bug is probably one of a small set of packages.

***If you encounter the bug when booting the Live CD (or alternative
installer), file the bug against the kernel.***
If you encounter the bug when installing Ubuntu from the Desktop CD
(most common method), the package is ubiquity. (See DebuggingUbiquity/
AttachingLogs.)
If you encounter the bug when installing from the Alternate or Server
CDs, the package is debian-installer."

I added the asterisks *** to highlight the area I thought was relevant.

With this information in mind, I ran "ubuntu-bug Linux" from a console
and filed the bug against the kernel. Was that the wrong package to
file it against? If so, what am I missing?

I'm trying to understand this so I don't make the same mistake in the
future.

Best regards,
Keith

2013-12-01 Thread Keith Rogers
I have been able to repeat this bug.

For my most recent attempt, I ran "ubiquity -d" in the terminal. It
reported back, "Segmentation fault (core dumped)".

The live session functions normally, except for the two network icons in
the tray, so I can easily get logs.

I attached the "dmesg" log. Any others I should attach?

[Bug 1256588] [NEW] PPC: LiveCD installation window vanishes during installation

2013-11-30 Thread Keith Rogers
Public bug reported:

I attempted to install from the 20131130 PPC LiveCD via usb flash drive.
I used the erase entire drive option.

The installation window proceeds until where the slide show would begin.
At that point, there is a blank area where the first slide would
normally be. The progress text reads copying files.

After about 30 seconds, the entire installation window vanishes, and all
that is left is the spinning gear. After 90 minutes, the installation
never finished. I ran ubuntu-bug ubiquity from a terminal, and then I
did a forced shutdown from the power button on the computer. I could not
get to a console.

Examining the hard drive, the installer looks to have partitioned the
drive, but only installed three folders: /etc., /lost+found, and /media.

[Bug 1254307] [NEW] PPC: Alternate CD installation hangs at initial Login screen.

2013-11-23 Thread Keith Rogers
Public bug reported:

Booted PPC Alternate CD and used Guided Install.
Installation proceeded normally.
Needed boot parameter "Linux video=radeonfb:1920x1080-32@60" to get correct
color depth at reboot.

At initial boot: Login screen freezes after entering password. Booting process
will go no further.
Was able to get to a console and logged in that way.
Ran ubuntu-bug lxdm to get this bug report.
Copied the URL supplied by ubuntu-bug and used another computer to report here.

[Bug 1168419] Re: PCManFM crashed upon opening

2013-04-19 Thread Keith Rogers
I reported this problem while running off a USB flash drive. Also, I was
able to reproduce the problem on an iBook G4, (1.33GHz processor, 1.5 GB
Ram, Airport Extreme wifi) laptop.

However, I have since done a complete install on the iBook G4 and have
used it for several days. I cannot reproduce the problem. Everything is
running well.

[Bug 1168419] [NEW] PCManFM crashed upon opening

2013-04-12 Thread Keith Rogers
Public bug reported:

Powermac MDD FW800 1.25GHz Dual processor 2GB ram ATI Radeon 9800 PRO
video (flashed PC card). I'm using a USB thumb drive to startup.

The first thing I did after getting to the desktop was click on the
PCManFM icon at the bottom of the display. A window opened showing all
the folders. I clicked on the applications icon in the menu at the left.
A blank window appeared, followed a few moments later by an error dialog
box asking to report the issue automatically.

And that's how I got here. BTW, I am a 25 year Apple user, but a real
newbie at linux.
