[Bug 574815] Re: clock 2.30.0 on ubuntu 10.04 amd64 does not update; times on locations do.

2011-04-13 Thread Kevin Bluck
Some workaround tips I've developed:

Almost any action that forces the panel to redraw itself will
temporarily fix the problem. This is why doing things like changing
styles and moving panel orientation gives temporary relief. My usual
maneuver is to briefly change the size of the panel in "properties" by
one pixel and then immediately back to the original value again.

Showing seconds in the clock preferences has the advantage of letting
you quickly spot when it has stopped updating.

[Bug 295414] Re: Wireless network keeps disconnecting in Intrepid

2009-01-31 Thread Kevin Bluck
Thanks also to sanath for the wicd tip. wicd was a slight hassle to
install. It's not in the standard universe repo for Intrepid, so you
have to perform a couple of steps to add their repo to your update
sources. Their website does provide clear instructions that worked as
advertised, so type (or copy/paste) carefully and you'll be fine.

Once installed, I found it considerably easier to configure for wireless
than was network manager. Even ignoring the fact that my wireless
doesn't constantly drop anymore, I like it better than network manager
anyway; I'll be keeping it even if they fix this bug.

Apparently, wicd will be in the universe repo come Jaunty, so the minor
install hassle will go away completely.

Heartily recommended.
