[Bug 818157] Re: Evolution Backup Files Incorrectly Reported (AGAIN)

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty

** Description changed:

When using the "Back Evolution Settings.." for the Weekly Back Up, USED to
produce a viable file to restore from.
The file was about 11Mb in size, an has proved reliable when needing to
restore, or when starting afresh.
Now the "evolution-backup.tar.gz" product is 332Kb in size.
The last time it was this size ANY "Restore" failed, REPEATEDLY.
This seemed to have been a recent (Since beginning of June) issue, and as it
is REQUIRED as a Work Application it is of concern.
Tried a Terminal "Text-As-Command" Work-Around, but this also Fails.

Re: [Bug 803008] Re: Evolution Scrolling - Crash

2011-07-13 Thread Kevin P. Munn
Thank you for your reply, and I hope this helps with fixing Evolution.

I am an employee using Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal as a company
"Thin Client".

As I do not have Admin Rights installing the De-Bug/Backtrace is proving
difficult, to say the least.
Also I would have to walk the Admin through what needs to be done: I seem to be
more Ubuntu-Aware than they are.

I CAN provide background and what causes the "Stall"/Crash (IncReps) and
what seems to be a "Work Around".

If this will help, as it seems to be specific set of actions that lead
to the Incident.

Evolution is ONLY used as a Contact/Calender App, which despite it's glaring
faults, is useful in a work environment.
It has useful parts that, in part, mitigate its faults.

If you want me to provide the information I can, please let me know.

Regards.

Thanks for the report, any chance to get a backtrace of that hang?
Please read : http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash specially the
part of the already running programs and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking

[Bug 358568] [NEW] Does ANYTHING Work On Evolution???

2009-04-09 Thread Kevin P. Munn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Cut & Paste Does NOT Work.
Copy & Paste Does NOT Work.
Drag & Drop Does NOT Work.
Do I HAVE To Create a New Event When I HAVE To Change A
Meeting/Presentation/Vacation/Day Off/Other Item ???
"Normally" A Copy & Paste WOULD Work...

Evolution 2.22.3.1 Running On Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron - released
in April 2008.

I Cannot Use This Package, For WORK Purposes (I use Organizer for PIM & Outlook
for Personal Mail).
Evolution IS preferable To Google, As At Least I "Normally" Works And Is Less
Prone To "Internet Issues"
I Need Evolution To Work, In A Work Enviroment.
But As Evolution Cannot Do The BASIC Requirements, My Fighting The "Director"
To Keep Using It Loses Credibility, As Evolution Loses It. I Would NOT
Reccomend Evolution To ANYONE Given Its (Lack Of) Functionality.

Microsoft MAY Be Microsoft, But At Least Outlook (Which Evolution Is Touted To
Replace) WORKS...
Are There ANY Fixes For The Above, So that I Can Continue To Use Evolution?
At Least It Did Not "Fall Over" When Google "Crashed" In March...

[Bug 181567] Re: gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slist_remove()

2008-01-10 Thread Kevin P. Munn
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 122590 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122590

The parameters described in bug #122590 DO NOT fit what is being experienced.
The Top Right hand "Search By: Name/E-Mail/Any Field" facility can be without a
causing Evolution to crash, so far.
The Problem/Bug/Whatever is with the "Category Search Drop-Down" where I would
be looking for Contacts in a specific Category. i.e. the Client subscribes to a
particular service that is provided by the company.
This is an on-going and annoying Problem/Bug/Whatever.
The SysAdmin did an update yesterday, but it has NOT cure the
Problem/Bug/Whatever.

Good Morning Sebastien.
I did as you suggested, in an E-Mail yesterday and used the /var/crash to
generate the report sent. It has Crashed twice this morning, and to clarify, I
will go through the steps to notify again.
On the development question, I would like to assist, but as a user, for a
company, it is not conducive to use company time. The other problem, is I
have yet to find an alternate OS that I can install onto one of my laptops,
where it will not damage the hard drive, SUSE damaged my laptop in a previous
attempt, and it was a "Single Make-Clean/Make-Boot" install.
I use Ubuntu, and like Kubuntu in the "Hot Disk" form, but I am concerned with
the issues with install (and Restore to WinOS should things not go to plan).
Regards.

You will not find a software which has 0 bug though, would be better to
work with the Ubuntu team to get this one fixed no? Could you open a new
bug if you still have the issue using the gutsy-proposed version and
include there easy steps to trigger the issue? If that's a crasher
better to use apport to send it, just go to /var/crash and double click
on the crash file thereThe bug is a GNOME

Good Morning Sebastian.
Thank you for your E-Mail and thoughts.
However.
I can, at the moment use the "Search By: Name/E-Mail/Any Field" facility
without a causing Evolution to crash. The one on the Top Right.
The Problem/Bug/Whatever is with the Category Search "Drop-Down" where I would

As to changing software whenever I encounter a Problem/Bug/Whatever, it is
Company Dictate (Yes, that is the correct definition!!!) that should there be a
Problem/Bug/Whatever, regardless of situation, not necessarily IT related, to
change to another. Should Ubuntu fail to meet expected standards, regardless of
field, we will change to another "Freebie" Software Solution.
Thank you any way for your thoughts.

[Bug 181540] Evolution STILL Crashes While Searching

2008-01-09 Thread Kevin P. Munn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server

Searching by "Category" of their entry STILL "Crashes" Evolution.
This was reported in a "Bug Rep" I sent in on Monday, yet was ignored.
The Original "Bug Rep" was [Bug 181055] Evolution
I was informed that it was Duplicate of "Bug Rep [Bug 135471]"
I use the Category Search to find Clients.
Our SysAdmin has Updated my Evolution and Part One of the "Bug Rep", the [Bug
135471] part has been "Fixed", So far, so good.
The Second Part, [Bug 181055] has not, and as of this moment is GUARANTEED to
Crash Evolution.
Would it be possible, when you "Fix" it to let me know how I can apply any
Patch, etc?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Good Morning Pedro.
I am correcting your mistake, on the "Bug Rep" below.
I have read through the "Bug Rep", as advertised and have conditions to add.
The reason for the correction is this:
Yes, the "Symptoms" are similar. However, when trying to Search using the
"Category" in the Contacts, which I have tailored to suit my requirements, it
has also caused Evolution to crash.
I "Click" on the Drop-down, which when I then select the Category wanted,
causes the Crash.
Putting a Name, or Part-Name has caused a crash.
"Scrolling" using the Mouse Wheel has caused a crash.
I need Evolution for Work Requirements, so have little choice in what I can do.
Could you not do a "Port" of MS Outlook? I have had fewer problems with it,
and despite what you may think, I am being VERY serious.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give, or how this can be fixed.

2008-01-08 Thread Kevin P. Munn
Good Morning Koen.
I have put in the information returned by "Bugzilla" yesterday to assist in
identifying any further relevant information.
I tried to enter the information into the Launchpad Form, but it kept throwing
errors, which meant that it was quicker to leave it blank.
This is NOT the first time Evolution has thrown a "Hissy Fit" when asked to
search, either by parameter, or "Scrolling", and as the system has just been
updated, on Wednesday 2nd January to be exact, it was my thought that this had
been obviated.
Obviously not.
Thanks in advance of any assistance you can give.
Regards.

confusing as you have to remember which combo does what. Playing "Chase The
Cursor" while trying to type work related documents is also annoying, as it is
the only viable option.
On a personal level, I use Firefox as my "Default" browser, despite using
WinXP, as it is, or at leaast was the more intuitive and viable option to IE,
of ANY "Flavour". To the developers, this may seem a small thing, but can lead
people, like me, to "Drop" Firefox, for IE as I prefer things NOT to get
complicated. I reccomend Firefox, as it is the better Browser, and is eaasier
to "Make My Own".
As a side note, I found a PDF from TechRepublic (70+ Firefox Keyboard
Shortcuts), which despite being two years old, is STILL valid and is becoming
No1 on the company's Document Wishlist.
Why mention this? It has the Alt+Right/Left Arrow - Move Forward/Back. But it
also has the Return - Move Back shortcut.

[Bug 87293] Backing Up Evolution to a .tar (Archive??) file

2007-02-23 Thread Kevin P. Munn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Tried backing up to a .tar file, using the suggested:

"~$ tar -cvzf evolution-backup.tar.gz .evolution .gconf/apps/evolution
.gnome2_private/evolution"

AFTER closing and "Force Closing".
It did not return the .tar file, giving instead:

"tar: .gnome2_private/evolution: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors"

What am I doing wrong? Or is there a better way of backing it up?
At least if I can, It will SHUT UP my boss...

** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

Re: [Bug 80995] Re: Evolution "Crashed" while being used

2007-02-01 Thread Kevin P. Munn
Good afternoon Emilio.
I have tried to send the text ¨BugRep¨ to Daniel Holbach, and for unknown
reasons, perhaps Ubuntu is unable to send Text (.txt) files over the internet,
one I sent to my colleague turned up as a .bin file (!!!???).
To further explain, here is the reply I sent Daniel before Lunch (UK Time), and
closing the Bug Report might not be too bad a thing to do.

Good Afternoon Daniel.
Thank you for your E-Mail, but since my last E-Mail to you, two things have
happened.
One: My boss saw Evolution crash, as he wanted me to get an address.
So he updated the whole system to 6.10 (Edgy ???)
Two: In the rebuild, due to internal problems, transferring the file, it was
deleted.
So, I cannot send you the file, and hopefully, with the upgrade, there will not
be a repeat of the ¨Crash¨
Thanks once again.

Emilio Pozuelo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: I close the bug because the reporter
can't provide more info, and nobody
can confirm it.

But feel free to reopen if you need to.

[Bug 80995] Evolution "Crashed" while being used

2007-01-22 Thread Kevin P. Munn
Public bug reported:

Evolution Just Reported a failure a la MS style failure
Have no idea why the failure occured, as I was just using Evolution in
"Normal" work mode.
A "Bug Rep" file has been created, an I cannot attach it HERE.
It does seem way TOO long to "Cut & Paste".

Re: [Bug 75878] Re: Backup Evolution in ONE, QUICK, EASY step.

2006-12-15 Thread Kevin P. Munn
Sebastien
Thanks for your reply.
I am using a "Dapper Drake" flavour Ubuntu, and as it is a WORK Station, I may
never see the Feisty Fawn, when it is released. I guess I was hoping for a
bolt-on Fix-It, that I, or our SysAdmin, could put onto the system I am using.
Thanks once again.

Kevin P. Munn

Sebastien Bacher <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Thank you for your bug. What
version of Ubuntu do you use? The feisty
version has "Backup Settings" option and a "Restore Settings" one, the
settings are stored to a tarball. I'm marking the bug fixed, that seems
to correspond to what you were asking for. If that's not the case feel
free to reopen

[Bug 75878] Backup Evolution in ONE, QUICK, EASY step.

2006-12-15 Thread Kevin P. Munn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Outlook exports to various formats, including the .pst, which can easily
be imported into other versions, on other work stations. Could Evolution
do the same? Even if it was an Evolution ONLY file it would help in
backing up data.
