[Bug 748709] Re: general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP

2011-11-03 Thread KevinM
Had this problem occur last night on shut-down.
I've had this problem occur a couple of times in the last month.
Using kernel 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:56:25 UTC 2011 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux (Xubuntu version).
Similar output to comments #2 and #3 above.
Hardware is Gigabyte G41MT-S2P motherboard with Intel E5700 dual core 64 bit
processors and 8Gb RAM (onboard display adapter shares this memory). Integrated
display adapter is Northbridge G41.
I'm running BOINC in the background.
At first I thought this might be a RAM fault, but memtest comes up with nothing.

[Bug 720343] Re: SystemError: E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages

2011-05-27 Thread KevinM
Have this problem on Oneiric 64 bit (upgraded from Natty, a while back).
Using nvidia_current (270.41.06 driver). Restricted driver prompt pop-
up appeared and two new options for display were shown - both were
'Nvidia binary xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library '. On
selecting either of the two new options I get the error message as soon
as the program tries to download the new driver. The new driver is not
downloaded.

I assume you mean librsvg2-2 2.34.0-0ubuntu5, librsvg2-common 2.34.0-0ubuntu5
and libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.23.3-0ubuntu3, gtk2-engines-pixbuf 2.24.4-0ubuntu2

[Bug 782053] [NEW] Unable to permanently add applications to unity taskbar

2011-05-13 Thread KevinM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I click on the Applications icon on the left-hand unity taskbar. I now
drag and drop an application onto the taskbar and then right-click on
the new icon to make sure 'Keep in Launcher' is ticked. I run the
application and then close it. The icon stays on the taskbar and is
still set to 'Keep in Launcher'. When I reboot the new application icon
is no longer displayed in the Unity taskbar.

Got the error on the latest updates from the UK server:
Updating software catalog...this may take a moment.
No handlers could be found for logger "softwarecenter.db.update"
Software catalog update was successful.
Using software catalogue 3.1.26.8 (update from 3.1.26.3), but software centre

[Bug 721210] Re: No Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar displayed

This is now working, after I installed today's daily build of Ubuntu
with Firefox 4.0. By default the Bookmarks Toolbar is off. To select go
to View-Toolbars and tick Bookmarks Toolbar. So this is now just a
wishlist item (i.e. Bookmarks Toolbar selected by default).

Thanks Chris. Currently I can't run Ubuntu Natty due to new install
problems. Once I've got Natty Ubuntu running again I'll sort out a new
bug in Bugzilla as there doesn't seem to be one raised on Firefox, but
on Evince which may be related.

[Bug 726595] [NEW] Evolution - unable to delete files and empty wastebasket

2011-02-28 Thread KevinM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I try to delete messages from my Evolution inbox the message is
marked with a line through it and just sits there. If I then exit and
restart Evolution the message is still in the inbox. I then tried to
empty the Evolution Wastebasket by right clicking on Wastebasket and
selecting Empty Wastebasket from the pop-up menu. The attached message
is displayed 'Summary and folder mismatch even after syncing' and the
Evolution Wastebasket is not emptied. I'm using Evolution 2.28.3 on

[Bug 691834] Re: Lost entry in grub menu

2011-02-27 Thread KevinM
 Work around
In order to recover the missing menu entries it seems that you have to mount
the missing drive, so that you can access the files. I did this via Dolphin
(Nautilus in Ubuntu). Once this partition is mounted I ran sudo update-grub in
Konsole (terminal) and the menu entry was then generated.

31-Jul-2010 18:45:30 [---] Received signal 15
when logging off of Ubuntu rather than just one signal 15 when things seem to
work.

In time_stats.log I get:

I assume that I need two power_off messages (due to dual core processor ?) and
only get one prior to problems.

I've also had an npviewer crash and will send a new crash file when the
next one is created (the old one is huge) - I'm using a hotplug rather
than wireless. Wireless was originally used when I installed Boinc.

2010-07-30 Thread KevinM
Thanks Daniel.
Booted three times in a row.
Will report back when Boinc next fails to start/load a project.
By the way, I have apport permanently enabled and the crash files in /var/crash
don't seem to include one for Boinc (may be due to your comment about
.xsession-errors in post #6.

[Bug 608058] Re: Boinc fails to start projects in Lucid

2010-07-30 Thread KevinM
The stderrdae.txt file seems to be empty (i.e. no errors). The
stdoutdae.txt file I've attached I've reduced in size so that it only
shows recent activity (the original was 1.4Mb). When I first ran up the
PC from cold this morning BOINC did not see any attached projects and so
I rebooted (but still no attached projects, this is new). A second
reboot and BOINC is again running fine. The stdoutdae.txt file looks OK.

[Bug 608058] Re: Boinc fails to start projects in Lucid

2010-07-30 Thread KevinM
The problem still occurs with the latest programs.
Linux kernel is now 2.6.32-24-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 5 09:20:59 UTC

I've attached my .xession-errors file as there's other things (but probably

[Bug 608058] [NEW] Boinc fails to start projects in Lucid

2010-07-21 Thread KevinM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: boinc

This problem occurs occasionally (approximately once every 20 boots). I am

[Bug 599244] Re: Evolution closes unexpectedly

2010-06-29 Thread KevinM
Hi Pedro, apport enable was set to 0, I've now set it to 1 (on) and because of
this there is no .crash report at present. When it next fails I'll report the
bug again (it does not fail that often).
Cheers

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Using Linux kernel 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 19:31:57 UTC

Start up evolution and get new messages by pressing Send/Receive. Deleted new
unwanted messages and then click on a new unopened message. Evolution closes
immediately.
This has occurred a number of times but does not occur every time. After this
happens I'm able to reopen evolution and view any message (including the one
that has caused it to previously close) with no problems.

[Bug 584924] [NEW] Quadrapassel refresh screen not working

2010-05-24 Thread KevinM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Using 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:28:05 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux and quadrappel version 2.30.0.
Play a game via Applications-Games-Quadrapassel. Select Game-New. Fill up one
column in playing area so that it is filled. Now fill a row so that all tiles
are moved down one position. Previously filled top block moves down but another
(same coloured) block stays in same (previously filled) position. This new
block stops any new pieces from moving to this filled position (as if it is a
valid piece). See attached screenshot showing offending block in top left of
playing area.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: quadrapassel 1:2.30.0-0ubuntu6

[Bug 294617] Re: unable to send files via bluetooth to phone

2010-03-23 Thread KevinM
Yes the K800i does support obex FTP and has previously worked fine in 7.10,
8.04 (early Hardy) and at first in early kernel 2.6.28-11 (see above). I've
just tried a Motorola phone and get the same problem as previously reported
(org.openobex.Error.Connection.Refused).

[Bug 294617] Re: unable to send files via bluetooth to phone

2010-03-23 Thread KevinM
On the PC 'hcitool scan' shows the phone but I'm unable to connect or
browse the phone (Connection refused). Phone shows that the connection
failed when try to connect to the PC via the phone. I'll see if I can
connect with another phone to Jaunty later and get back to you.

Raphael - you'll find that some HTC phones are not true Bluetooth v2.0,
2.1 compatible and so will only connect one way (like my HTC Monet).

The phone supports receiving files over bluetooth v2.0 - it's a
SonyEricsson K800i (I've previously worked for SonyEricsson and
Ericsson). I have an HTC Monet phone which I know does not support
receiving files. SendTo has been very problematic in the past (see Bug
#294617 which was reported using the same K800i).

[Bug 478174] Re: [Lucid] Bluetooth Send To hangs on connecting

2010-03-17 Thread KevinM
Just added your PPA, updated and installed obexd-client 0.22 (plus bluez and
all other PPA packages) and rebooted.
Tried again and get the same message (as in #5). Can still cut and paste
though. Funnily enough if I click on the bluetooth applet I get a menu that
suggests the phone is disconnected (see attached) but I'm still able to get and
delete files from the phone without doing anything apart from using Nautilus.
