[Bug 1969357] Re: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version

2022-04-20 Thread Khurshid Alam
@adrian-wilkins

Unity always use lightdm. Will try using gdm.

Yes. The current_desktop_name is being set from data/unity.desktop.in.in file.
Please look at the patch
in debian/patches/ubuntu/ubuntu-session.patch.

As for changes between impish and jammy, It seems now the object path
has changed in gsm-manager.c ? From org.gnome.Shell to
org.gnome.Shell.desktop? Though not sure that would affect this.

Here is the changelog of 41.3-1ubuntu1.

2022-04-18 Thread Khurshid Alam
@vanvugt Why the affected package cchanged from gnome-session to unity?
This gnome-session issue which sets the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP for unity
under unity-session.

It works gnome-session 40.1.1-3ubuntu1, but not with 41.3-1ubuntu1.

[Bug 1968565] Re: unity login don't work, login screen appear again after a few seconds

2022-04-18 Thread Khurshid Alam
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1969357 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969357

This is duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
session/+bug/1969357

As a workaround you can manually change themes from tweak tool and
alt+tab to desktop.

But better option is downgrade gnome-session packages until it is fixed.

This is happenning bcz of wrong XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP (as in Gnome vs
Unity7:Unity:Ubuntu). Ubuntu-settings sets themes deopending on that
value.

But I am not sure which file is to modify here It is based on ubuntu-

lots of deprecated packages in desktop-amd64 and desktop-recommends-

indicator-sound works as expected but perhaps more testing requires on
different hardware. These tests can be enabled for desktop later if
someone able to fix those...may be ask 3v1n0 ?

Unity-control-center is the integral part of Unity, so it can't be

This is gtk-nocsd bug. Gtk-nocsd is not compatible with new HdyWindow.
The debian version is unmaintained as of now.

The new code is https://github.com/ZaWertun/gtk3-nocsd.

Perhaps one can try with that library.

Note: If you install gnome-session you will need this patch from

are still there because it is carrying those old patches for unity.

Did you perform reboot after updgrade? Which graphical configurator? You
change suspend option from unity-control-center->power. Note the upgrade
path is not supported for Unity since it is not a official flavor.
Recommend way is to re-install.

[Bug 1863422] Re: Unity doesn't start in focal

2020-03-07 Thread Khurshid Alam
Unity needs to be recompiled against newer unity-settings-daemon-dev.
When that happens it will automatically get fixed. Meanwhile you can you
can use maintainers ppa.

Also it is not a good idea to upgrade. Instead use fresh install for
testing.

[Bug 1844626] Re: Please remove compiz-plugins-experimental from eoan-proposed

2020-03-05 Thread Khurshid Alam
It is part of compiz-reloaded (a fork of old compiz which is in debian)

https://gitlab.com/compiz

https://gitlab.com/compiz/compiz-plugins-experimental.

So it is unlikely that unlikely that it will work with 0.9.

[Bug 1847858] Re: No num lock upon starting Unity session

2019-10-31 Thread Khurshid Alam
It got broken in LP: #1845031. So they move the "numlock-state" under

never saved in u-s-d. But manually pressing the hardware key should
still work. Working on a fix.

[Bug 1847704] Re: On upgrade to 19.10, Unity custom keyboard shortcuts stop working

2019-10-15 Thread Khurshid Alam
Ah, I figured out what's happening. unity-control-center even though
released in trunk, never got updated in release pocket. I have raised
the issue.

Meanwhile, you can use unity7maintainers PPA.

https://launchpad.net/~unity7maintainers/+archive/ubuntu/unity7-desktop

1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:unity7maintainers/unity7-desktop && sudo
apt-get update

2. sudo apt-get install unity-control-center libunity-control-center1

Then reboot and recreate those shortcuts and it will work.

Yes it means it is not recognizing super key or it is locked. Open
gnome-tweaks-> Keyboard & mouse and check alt/win key behavior is
disabled.

[Bug 1847704] Re: On upgrade to 19.10, Unity custom keyboard shortcuts stop working

2019-10-13 Thread Khurshid Alam
The shortcuts keys you use for your custom shortcuts are being used
somewhere else. Usually it should disable the old shortcut and enable
yours. But it seems it is not happening here. Did you reboot after the
upgrade? Please mention the installed version of Unity, unity-control-
center & unity-settings-daemon. To debug,

1. Install compiz-config-settings manager. Make sure you have unity
profile selected in preference.

2. Reboot & Recreate those shortcuts from system-
settings->keyboard->shortcuts->custom-shortcuts

3. Open  terminal & run `unity-settings-daemon -r --debug`.

4. Wait for it to stop printing, then press enter couple of times to
separate the cursor.

5. Now press your custom shortcuts , you will some log printing on the
terminal.

6. Paste the output to https://paste.ubuntu.com/

7. When done, re-login.

It seems xkb/xorg keyboard modifier changed for your case (Lenovo has a
bad history). So already pre-defined shortcuts are not working like

Super + D = Desktop
Super + F = File Lens

So instead use Ctrl+Alt+x, Ctrl+Alt+F etc from control-
center->keyboard->shortcuts.

[Bug 1841744] Re: Drop fwupdate from the archive from E

2019-09-04 Thread Khurshid Alam
@Mario Limonciello

Hi, I understood what you did. I have now updated the bzr branch and
then run update and pushed changes to lp:ubuntu-unity-meta. Since, now,
the changelog version is 0.3 there should not be any problem uploading
over 0.2. Note I dropped all architectures except amd64 and i386 since
Unity doesn't really work on other arch. If it is a issue we can change
that.

I have also send invitation to ubuntu-core-dev to join
~unity7maintainers team.

Thanks.

[Bug 1841744] Re: Drop fwupdate from the archive from E

2019-09-04 Thread Khurshid Alam
@Mario Limonciello

I did not respond because I was busy with breakage in other unity
related packages. You should give us time to do that specially when you
filed the bug one week ago.

Now we don't have access to ~ubuntu-core-dev, we can't change those.

Also you are doing it wrong.

1. First you should clone lp:~unity7maintainers/ubuntu-seeds/ubuntu-
unity.cosmic and then update structure and then push it as
lp:~unity7maintainers/ubuntu-seeds/ubuntu-unity.eoan.

2. Then you change the update.config in
https://code.launchpad.net/~unity7maintainers/ubuntu-unity-meta/

3. Only then you run a ./update.

4. git push launchpad master

As of now it is not clear how do I push a new update ? It's broken.

2019-08-30 Thread Khurshid Alam
Ubuntu-Unity-Meta provides ubuntu-unity-desktop. It hasn't been updated
because it needs to be sponsored and I myself don't have the upload
right. If you see git commit you will see it has several commits after
bionic release. The person who is maintaining that before is suffering
from cancer and it was left like that before.

We carry a updated version in the unity maintainers ppa. I will try
update and find sponsor for this cycle.

** Description changed:

  Both freedesktop notification (https://developer.gnome.org/notification-

spec/) spec & gnotification use "image-path" as hint where notify-osd
uses "image_path".

As a result when one uses themed icon with gnotification it doesn't show
the icon. Support for themed icon landed in
https://github.com/GNOME/glib/commit/ec1edef3

This can easily be verified with

IMAGE=edit-copy
# IMAGE=/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/48x48/actions/edit-copy.png
python -c "import dbus; print dbus.Bus().call_blocking(\
'org.freedesktop.Notifications', \
'/org/freedesktop/Notifications', \
'org.freedesktop.Notifications', \
'Notify', \
'susssasa{sv}i', \
('appname', 0, '', 'summary', 'body', [], {'image-path': '$IMAGE'}, -1))"

[Bug 1741027] Re: [SRU] Screen sharing panels abort using an non-existent vino gsettings key

2019-07-30 Thread Khurshid Alam
@Gunnar

Sorry I was not available in previous week.

It seems u-c-c part was already merged https://bazaar.launchpad.net
/~unity-control-center-team/unity-control-center/18.04/revision/12913

The issue is unity-settings-daemon doesn't have any 18.04 branch. Can
you create that branch ? Then I will open a merge for that branch.

Once it gets merged in 18.04 branch, it can be released.

Thanks.

It needs to be sponsored (who has merge access) for 18.04. I have asked
in the mailing list here
https://lists.launchpad.net/unity7maintainers/msg00026.html, You can
also ask in #ubuntu-desktop on irc.freenode.net but be polite. Meanwhile
you can use unity-7 maintainers PPA.

How to reproduce this ?

Previously crash was in `nautilus_window_slot_get_location` which is now
fixed upstream.

With 3.32.1-1ubuntu1, I can't reproduce with G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all
/usr/bin/nautilus. Can you copy/paste error as I don't have access?

But we don't really to update windows locations when
org.freedesktop.FileManager1 is acquired or being acquired. If there is
still a error I will open a merge.

[Bug 1640409] Re: show my login name in menu bar not working.

2019-06-03 Thread Khurshid Alam
That is because XDG_SEAT and XDG_SESSION_ID are not set anymore &
indicator-session depends on it.

dbus-x11 installs /etc/X11/Xsession.d/95dbus_update-activation-env which
unsets those env variables.

Comment out those & reboot. It will work again. LP: #1831491

Why this is relevant in 19.10 ? Trusty already had eol.

Indicator-datetime was ported from C to C++ (r: 298) to work with
unity-8 and that feature gone missing with that. But there is no unity-8
anymore and the code doesn't work.

2019-05-06 Thread Khurshid Alam
Actually it's nor really related to nemo, it's happening since the split
of nautilus-desktop as a separate binary from nautilus. Bamf somehow not
considering desktop window as valid bamf window (see
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/wz32KF7Kqx/). As a result when indicator-
appmenu tries to track menu it fails. We could just simply ignore
tracking menus for desktop_windows for now.

[Bug 1824155] Re: Could not add global menu in gnome-panel (Ubuntu 19.04)

2019-05-02 Thread Khurshid Alam
@Alberts

Yes, gtk-shell-shows-app-menu should be true. To make it work on
flashback (19.04)

1) Disable workaround

gsettings set org.gnome.gnome-flashback.workarounds fix-app-menu false

That should do it if not try overriding xsettings

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings overrides
'@a{sv} {"Gtk/ShellShowsAppMenu": }'

(And unity-gtk-module is handling gtk-shell-shows-menu-bar.)

2) Now add app-menu-applet to the panel, it should work.

At least it is working for me for chromium. But the issue is some gnome apps
(like terminal, gedit) only exports appmenu and not the menubar depending on
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP and it thinks flashback as gnome-session. Since appmenu was
removed in 3.32, there are no menu at all on the panel.

The other issue is, as you described, g-s-d now hardcoded appmenu to false,
will xsettings override even work ? If it does, indicator-appmenu-applet can
set both to true in debian/postinstall for flashback session.

2019-04-10 Thread Khurshid Alam
@Norbert

No, I actually wanted you to change the font from gedit preference. For
example select purisha oblique.

Reset geit pref. Install tweak-tool. Try changing monospace font. It
will change both context menu and soureview font.

But I think you are right by default it is set to monospace font. But
you can force it to use other fonts.

And yes this can be set in the theme too.

Did you try changing font by de-selecting "use system fixed width font"
?

[Bug 1814506] Re: Use nemo-desktop to draw desktop icons under Unity (Disco)

2019-02-14 Thread Khurshid Alam
@Amr

Ah, No. In users eye nemo won't even exist in Unity. We are only using
nemo-desktop which is a separate binary to draw icons under unity,
nothing else. It's difficult to remove nautilus completely as it is
burried deep. It requires work on unity, unity-lens-files, hud, bamf,
zeitgeist and in indicators.
