[Bug 362203] Re: Skype high CPU use on 9.04 using pulse (and audio recording/sending delay >5sec)

2009-07-01 Thread Klaus Heinrich Kiwi
As a workaround, please try passing 'nohz=off' as kernel parameter, i.e., in
the /boot/grub/menu.lst file:
...
title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-13-generic
root(hd0,1)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.28-13-generic root=/dev/mapper/vg00-UbuntuRoot ro
nohz=off resume=/dev/mapper/vg00-swap
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.28-13-generic
quiet
...

as another option, try installing the 2.6.30 kernel
(2.6.30-020630-generic)) from the mainline-kernel PPA, and see if the
problem persists.

You also might wanna combine both options above (use the 2.6.30 kernel
with 'nohz=off')

[Bug 276949] Re: No driver for HP Webcam - 15b8:6002

2009-06-24 Thread Klaus Heinrich Kiwi
I have this same webcam, running Intrepid with 2.6.30 PPA kernel
(2.6.30-020630-generic).

Kernel/udev appears to recognize the cam properly and loads the gspca
kernel module, but I'm seeing errors when trying to test the cam under
Gnome menu Item "Preferences ->Multimedia Systems Selector", video tab
(garbled video window appears, error dialog with text "Video for Linux

[Bug 362203] Re: Skype high CPU use on 9.04 using pulse (and audio recording/sending delay >5sec)

2009-05-19 Thread Klaus Heinrich Kiwi
Another "me too" here, but let me add a few points:
 * It's happening to both my Thinkpad's T61 Intel HDA sound driver as to my
Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000 USB headset
 * other applications are also affected, namely Rhythmbox and Totem
(video/sound goes out-of-sync after a while)
 * played around with daemon.conf parameters such as
realtime-scheduling|priority, high-priority and nice-level, as well as with
resample-method, default-fragments, default-fragments-size-msec - I could make
things a bit better, but the problem is far from being solved
 * removed pulseaudio from my system as of now (can't afford in helping in
testing since I use audio-conferencing a lot in my work), skype/rhythmbox/totem
are all back to normal using alsa drivers (under 2% cpu usage, no noticeable
gaps in playback)

[Bug 196850] Re: vm cannot access cd-rom unless run as root

2008-11-06 Thread Klaus Heinrich Kiwi
Something is still not quite right with the Intrepid version.

If I try to create a virtual machine booting from the 'real' cdrom, I get the
following message:
libvirtError: virDomainCreateLinux() failed internal error Timed out while
reading monitor startup output

It works as expected if I use the ISO image at my home directory.

My user is part of the libvirtd group (128). I also tried running as
root with the same result.

I saw some interesting messages on the libvirtd side:

[Bug 276036] Re: X BadImplementation error when starting

2008-11-05 Thread Klaus Heinrich Kiwi
Mark Howard (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xchat-
gnome/+bug/288468/comments/3) was able to track where the 'transparency
background' setting sits. I just confirmed it works as a workaround.

Use gconf-editor, browse to apps/xchat/main-window, and change the
'background_type' key from 2 (transparency) to 1 or 0. xchat-gnome works
fine after that.

[Bug 202089] Re: Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume

2008-06-15 Thread Klaus Heinrich Kiwi
Still having this issue.. Odd thing is that even video playback is
affected after suspending (mplayer, totem, vlc and derivates). kill'ing
pulseaudio makes video playback back to normal, but with no sound.

Any workarounds besides killing pulseaudio? I've tried a few times to
restart the deamon (without logging out and back in) to no avail.

[Bug 156191] Re: Printing from Java does not work at all with cups > 1.2

2008-04-30 Thread Klaus Heinrich Kiwi
Brad Langhorst wrote on 2008-01-20
>Trinh's solution does not work for cups1.3 in hardy with java 1.6.
I can confirm that.

In my particular environment, I'm not able to use openjdk which has been
said to include the fix already (the java app seems incompatible,
complaining about certificates), neither can use java 1.4.2 because it
will simply crash firefox 3 - so this is a major blocker for me.

>if this also affects you, vote for the bug at
>http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6633656

Looks like there is a release 10 build 22 which includes the fix already
- If this information is true, would it be possible to bump the sun-
java6 version to include this fix?

Thanks,

 -Klaus

[Bug 187341] Re: default ssl certificate is invalid

2008-02-29 Thread Klaus Heinrich Kiwi
I can reproduce this when trying to access an IBM Hardware Management
Console (an appliance to manage POWER-based machines).

Env.: Firefox 3 beta 3, up-to-date Hardy Haron.

Looks like Firefox 3 isn't accepting self-signed certificates anymore -
a workaround (button to add to exception list) would be welcome here.
