[Bug 298189] Re: To display videos Microsoft Media Server MMS protocol is needed

2009-05-12 Thread Koen Beek
Go Application Add Remove. Select 'Sound and video'. In the
application Window select 'Gstream pugin for mms, wavpack '. Then
Apply Changes

else try to install packages gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly, gstreamer0.10
-plugins-bad and gstreamer0.10-plugins-ffmpeg

if that still does not work install some medibuntu stuff like w32codecs
(or w64codecs if you're on amd64)

[Bug 338035] Re: Origami doesn't start automatically on startup in Jaunty

2009-05-11 Thread Koen Beek
I tried to debug the problem but I have given up for the moment.
The startup script gets called correctly and goes through the code in
/etc/init.d/origami to start the faH processes (2 in my case) and the test that
it uses to check whether they were started says that they were, but when I
check the processes when I'm logged in in a terminal after boot they're not
there (anymore ?) ...

I'm using the following workaround for the moment

I've added an Application in System-Preferences-Startup Applications
with command sudo origami start

to avoid the problem of the system needing a password for the origami script
when doing sudo I've added it to the exception clauses using visudo
  sudo visudo
and add
your_username ALL= NOPASSWD: /path/to/program
at the end of the file (with your_username replace with your login id)

The Mediatomb FAQ page http://mediatomb.cc/dokuwiki/faq:faq contains the
following suggestion for Ubuntu :

- Launch the Sessions Preferences program ( System→Preferences→Sessions or

- Click “Add”

[Bug 279478] Re: alsa sound fades out when headphones are plugged in until you inaudible

2009-05-02 Thread Koen Beek
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: alsa-base

Sound works fine from the speakers, but when headphones are plugged in,
sound gradually diminishes until it is silent. Unplugging the headphones
leaves it silent on the speakers. Reboot resets the position and sound
is fine until 'phones plugged in.

My card is a Sigmatel STAC9227 in a Dell Dimension e520 desktop but it
  seems to affect similar cards.

  More info of the problem:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=913328page=3

To address this, you can restart alsa and pulseaudio:

   sudo alsa force-reload
   pulseaudio

- Presumably, this can be fixed by adding an option to /etc/modprobe.d
- /alsa-base but I haven't tested it yet:
-
- options snd-hda-intel model=dell-3stack
+ Workaround :
+ alt-f2
+ gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
+ add options snd-hda-intel model=3stack to end of file (without quotes),
save
+ reboot

[Bug 292474] Re: Firefox 3.0 Menu Buttons disabled

2009-04-26 Thread Koen De Wit
I was able to reproduce this while strace-ing firefox. The file was
lost too. (In fact it was empty. I'm not a bash expert, but is it
possible that the strace-command provided does not write the file
actually?)

However, I noticed a line in the strace-output that mentions that access
was denied to the file places.sqlite-journal IT belonged to the root
user. I executed this command:

sudo chmod 777 ~/.mozilla/firefox/5tutnx4z.default/places.sqlite-journal

and I started firefox again. This solved the problem, I was able to use
the back button again. After starting firefox, the file places.sqlite-
journal was owned by myself again, not by root, and its permissions
were reset to rw-r--r--.

I have no idea why the file's owner was set to root.

[Bug 363130] Re: sysinfo shows incorrect Release

2009-04-18 Thread Koen Beek
I can confirm that this error occurs with the binary package of sysinfo

ii sysinfo0.7-1ubuntu5
display computer and system information

however, when I build from source package using debuild it creates a
binary package where it works correctly

 apt-get source sysinfo
 sudo apt-get build-dep sysinfo
 cd sysinfo-0.7
 debuild
 sudo dpkg -i ../sysinfo_0.7-1ubuntu5_all.deb

and then it works

it seems the binary build dit not take into account the patch -
09-ubuntu_lsb_release.diff
the build log confirms this
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20959796/buildlog_ubuntu-jaunty-i386.sysinfo_0.7-1ubuntu5_FULLYBUILT.txt.gz
last patch to be taken into account is 08-correct_url.diff

In the log file of debuild patch 09-ubuntu_lsb_release.diff is taken
into account

[Bug 363130] Re: sysinfo shows incorrect Release

2009-04-18 Thread Koen Beek
The build log contains the following error :

make: lsb_release: Command not found

in the rules file the following command fails : DISTRO = $(shell
lsb_release -si)

this causes
ifeq ($(DISTRO),Ubuntu)
export QUILT_SERIES=$(QUILT_PATCH_DIR)/series-ubuntu
endif

to not use the ubuntu series of patches -- the difference with the one
for debian is the 09-ubuntu-release.diff patch

I would suggest we can avoid these tests, as the 09-ubuntu_release.diff
patch should not cause any problems for other distros, as it will first
check all the options as now (debian_version, fedora-release, SuSE-
release etc) and then try lsb-release

[Bug 150579] Re: OpenOffice covers the whole screen and has no borders or titlebar when using compiz

2009-03-23 Thread Koen Beek
I think this one is fixed on Intrepid - can anyone reproduce the problem
there ?

On Hardy, many people seem to have this problem which I think is a bug
in compiz

A possible workaround for compiz is the following :

Install the Advanced desktop effects settings package (Compiz desktop
effects control panel), you can just go to add/remove applications for
this.

In this control panel:
- Enable Workarounds
- Within Workarounds, disable Legacy full screen support

Maybe the following workaround helps ? Could people who experience the

Install the Advanced desktop effects settings package (Compiz desktop

correlated with accessing servers. Pages with lots of images (e.g.
www.dilbert.com) seem to trigger the bug more readily than simple text
  only pages.

The connection is immediately picked up again using DHCP.

  This is using Intrepid beta.

[Bug 61827] Re: Wireless on Amilo M7440 doesn't work: needs module fsm7440

2008-11-03 Thread Koen
As far as I know the module fsam7440 doesn't work on Ubuntu 8.10.
I installed ubuntu (with wubi) and the wireless card can't be activated.

To be honest, i'm a linux newbie so I need a lot of help.

With the previous versions ( 7.04 and 7.10) i was able to install the
fsam module and use my wireless card (without any problem).

I hope this can get fixed because I love to use Ubuntu and now i'm stuck
on windows.

[Bug 288281] [NEW] no ethernet after suspend

2008-10-23 Thread Koen Mercken

Binary package hint: network-manager

Network-manager can't connect eth0 after suspend on Ubuntu 8.10 frozen (64 bit).
version: 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1

I am not shure its a network-manager problem because i can't connect
mannually either.

I have tried this in console:

2008-10-20 Thread Koen Sadza
Hi,

Can you please attach /var/log/dmesg and /var/log/syslog at the time of
plugging in and connecting, as well as the output of lsusb and lshal?

Maybe I can see where the problem lies then.

it looks like NM is unable to unlock the device with the PIN you enter.

Try putting the SIMcard in your phone, or the stick in a windows computer, and
turning of the PIN.
Then try connecting again.

If not, file another bug about it ;-)

Just try to disable PIN security on your SIM.
If you desperately need a PIN on it,
File another bug report about it not connecting with PIN, but then again,
you'll have to check if it does connect without a PIN.

[Bug 285737] Re: synaptic package manager crashes in ubuntu 8.10 beta

2008-10-19 Thread Koen Beek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in synaptic.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the

Sorry, my mistake, i thought i had added the attachement.

I think (but ime not shure because i cant open it) this was a document i
created myself by copying part of a webpage and pasting it in openoffice

opening.

How do i check if the document is corrupted?

[Bug 211347] Re: sysinfo Fails to Find Hardware

2008-10-04 Thread Koen Beek
Hi,

indeed increasing the limit by one isn't too great as a solution

the major correction though, is that limit checking is being applied
while it wasn't before - if there are more than 6 usb-controllers, only
the first 6 will be shown but the program will not fail and will show
all the other hardware.

before this change when more than 5 usb controllers where mentioned in
the 'lspci -v' list, the program would stop detecting any other hardware
in the 'lspci -v' list when it reached the 6th usb controller and it
would produce a 'IndexOutOfRangeException' exception - any hardware
listed in lspci -v from the 6th usb controller was therefore missing
from the sysinfo gui

I chose this way of correcting the code to limit the size of the code changes
to a minimum and because my mono programming skills are very small - I've only
used Mono for sysinfo bug corrections
I could easily increase the limit to a size that will be sufficient for
99.999% of all machines (for example 10 usb controllers) but it would take me
much more effort to get a truly dynamic list size as I'm not accustomed to Mono
development

I'll add the bug reports and a link to the patches upstream but I
think upstream might be dead since +- middle of 2006

[Bug 262086] Re: i installed packagekit and i get this error each time i reboot

2008-08-30 Thread Koen Beek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in packagekit.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 262586] Re: Virtualbox not working for weeks

2008-08-30 Thread Koen Beek
A workaround for the problem is the following

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose-source
sudo m-a update
sudo m-a prepare
sudo m-a a-i virtualbox-ose
sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv restart

I believe the correct solution would be to point virtual-box-ose-modules
to the correct version of virtual-box-ose-2.6...
