[Bug 688099] [NEW] nautilus Open With... last choice value affects all files of this type, not only the specific at hand

2010-12-09 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a .zip file and a .jar file. if I right-click and pick open with
and set Java 6 runtime, the default setting for a .zip file changes as
well and next time I open a .zip, it tries to execute it as .jar. Same
is true for opposite if .zip file is opened with archive manager.
Examining right-click properties suggests that mime-type for the .jar
file is wrong: should say application/java-archive, but is
application/zip .

/etc/mime.types appears to be correct:

konr...@oboe:~/work/idn$ grep jar /etc/mime.types
application/java-archivejar
konr...@oboe:~/work/idn$ grep zip /etc/mime.types
# Note: Compression schemes like gzip, bzip, and compress are not
application/zip zip

[Bug 643399] [NEW] screensaver and screen locking not activating if keyring dialogue is open

2010-09-20 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: xscreensaver

If password input dialogue, such as gnome keyring prompt or gksu is open, then
screensaver will not automatically start if desktop is left idle for the
pre-configured amount of time. This makes security of automatic screen locking
inefficient in certain cases. Upon password entry or dialog cancellation,
screensaver starts.
How to reproduce:
1) Configure xscreensaver with a delay of 1 minute
2) open an application asking for keyring passphrase entry or gksu dialog
3) Wait for one minute, screensaver does not kick in
4) Enter passphrase/password or cancel dialog, screensaver starts.

[Bug 613447] [NEW] On laptop with closed lid + external monitor, display settings revert automatically to both enabled

2010-08-04 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I use laptop with lid closed (and power manager set to do-nothing on lid close)
and an external monitor.
Sometimes, the setup reverts back to two monitor setup monitor and laptop
enabled. Laptop screen is then set automatically as primary and my gnome bottom

[Bug 596749] [NEW] nm-connection-manager stalls - can't click on any button. In stderr: ** Message: secret service operation failed: Activation of org.freedesktop.secrets timed out

2010-06-21 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
Public bug reported:

When I launch nm-con-mgr, all buttons, tabs are not responsive, no connections
entries for Wired are listed. stderr shows this:
** Message: secret service operation failed: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken.

After a while, buttons are responsive and connection entries are
available. However, when I edit or delete an entry, same lock-up happens
and I get this on stderr:

* Message: secret service operation failed: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,

Rest of my system is working. THe only unusual thing about this out-of-
the box laptop install is that I use nss_ldap and pam_krb5 for auth
lookup.

 Hi Konrads,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

 apport-collect -p linux 582184

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
  Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag.
This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag
located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

 Thanks in advance.

[Bug 380928] [NEW] No easy way to switch default sound output to USB headphones

2009-05-27 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

I have Logitec USB headphones:
[6.254669] input: Logitech Logitech USB Headset as
/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.3/input/input2
[6.268254] input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.00 Device [Logitech Logitech USB
Headset] on usb-:00:1d.0-1

When I plug them into the laptop or boot with headphones plugged in, the
default sound sink in pulseaudio is my built in speakers. There is no
sane and easy way to switch the sound output to headphones.

Currently, I am doing this:
pacmd
unload-module volume-restore
set-default-sink 1

and then restart the application I want to use the headphones.

This works differently than if I had plugged analogue headphones.

What should happen instead is something of this:

1) Sound switches to headphones by default
2) A pop-up asks me which sound-output I want.

2008-07-07 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
HI,

I removed the gnome-vfs-obexftp and behaviour remains the same.

Error message is: There was an error copying the file into
obex://[00:18:13:5E:22:E9]/Phone%20memory.
Operation not supported by backend. Using kbluetooth i can merrily transfer
files, so bluetooth transfer as such works.

[Bug 190124] [NEW] Couldn't display obex://fa:ce:fe:ed:be:ef].

2008-02-07 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
1) Click on Bluetooth Manager,
2) then Browse Device,
3) then select a previously paired device (mine is SonyEricsson K750i),
4) wait
5) Observe error message:
Couldn't display obex://fa:ce:fe:ed:be:ef].
Check if the service is available.

Before this error appeared, I was able to pair the device and transfer
some files. I left the obex nautilus window linger overnight. Refresh
attempts would fail and repeated connection would produce the above
mentioned errors.

[Bug 73933] Skype locks system for a few seconds on first open of sound device

2006-11-30 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I have intel built in sound (same bug with bt-sco). When skype opens the sound
device, to output initial beep for incoming chat, the system becomes completely
unresponsive for about 15 seconds. The beep is then played and future beeps
come through without issues.
I think , that regardless of application, the system should not allow a lockup
upon sound device open when operating as non-root.

[Bug 65144] Can't type capital letter with diactrical signs in

2006-10-10 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

For keyboard layout Lva (Latvia Apostrophe (') variant) unable to
obtain capital letters with diactrical signs (such as Ā and Ē and Č) by
typing Apostrophe-Shift-Letter (A/E/C/..). In fact, no combination with
apostrophe seems to work to obtain capital letters with the special
signs (except for hitting caps-lock).

Capital letters can be obtained by pressing Shift-Right_Alt-Letter.
This could be reported as bug aswell since only one deadkey is advertised (')
and only one should work then.

P.S. Bug can be repeated with Latvia Tilde variant as well.

[Bug 52140] DapperDrake 64-bit CD install does not recognize existing LVM volumes/filesystems

2006-07-06 Thread Konrads Smelkovs
Public bug reported:

Upgrade to 6.06 64 bit from an upgraed 5.10-6.06 32 bit system, Shipped Live
CD's Install application does not recognize existing LVM volumes.
On OLD install, fstab looks like:

 === fstab BEGIN ===
/dev/mapper/System-Root / ext3defaults,errors=remount-ro 0
   1
/dev/sda1 /boot ext3defaults0 2
/dev/mapper/System-Home /home ext3defaults0 2
/dev/mapper/System-VarData /varext3defaults0 2
/dev/mapper/System-Swap noneswapsw 0 0
 === fstab END ===

The Install application's manual paritioning, recognises the existing /boot
volume and is able to retrieve info from it (used space), however other volumes
are visible in top left drop-down menu, but have an exclamation marks, and
doubleclicking on them, there is written, that information cannot be read from
it.
In next wizard frame, none of the System-* volumes are available; only two
volumes are visible the LVM master volume (/dev/sda2) and the /boot: /dev/sda1

Severity: Existing systems can not be upgraded without data loss.
This is a release bug.
