[Bug 2064656] Re: gnome-shell spams the journal with `Failed to parse translated string '„24h“' for key 'clock-format' in schema 'org.gnome.desktop.interface': 0:expected value` multiple times every s

2024-07-08 Thread Konstantin
Hello, could please someone clarify, what exactly file needs the
changes? I see `clock-format` is declared in
`org.gnome.desktop.interface.gschema.xml`, but the changes I presume
needs to be done in some translation file. But what is this translation
file exactly?

I'll send it upstream if necessary, but either way I want to at least
have the fix for my local system.

@MatsUtterheim you seem to have forgotten to write steps to reproduce,
please add it to the post: to reproduce just execute:

python3 -c 'from pyVim import connect'

[Bug 2062911] Re: Something went worng screen after changing cursor

2024-04-28 Thread Konstantin Nikolic
New version of gnome tweaks should be here soon, i guess they will fix it.
When you get something went wrong screen try clicking ctrl+alt+t and terminal
should open, after that type gnome-tweaks in terminal. Tweaks gui should open
and then just change everything to default and reboot.

Also I couldn't repeat you actions to revert back the change. Can you please
explain it step by step?
When I enter ctrl+alt+f3 terminal and enter gnome-tweak I receive an error:
```
CRITICAL: Errot getting shell version
Description: Intuitive GNOME web browser
 Epiphany is a simple yet powerful GNOME web browser targeted at
 non-technical users. Its principles are simplicity and standards
 compliance.
 .
 Simplicity is achieved by a well designed user interface and reliance
 on external applications for performing external tasks (such as reading
 email). Simplicity does not mean less features; Epiphany has everything
 a modern web browser is expected to have.
 .
 Standards compliance is achieved on the HTML side by using the
 WebKitGTK+ rendering engine (which is based on the engine used by
 Apple Safari and Google Chrome); and on the user interface side by
 closely following the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines (HIG) and by
 close integration with the GNOME desktop.
Original-Maintainer: Debian GNOME Maintainers
Homepage: https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Web
How to reproduce (step by step):
1. Login in your user session using Wayland (default).
2. Install package epiphany-browser via apt. Or run, if it already installed.
3. Try to browse something. Make sure there will be nothing rendering on web
pages.
Wanted result: web pages content presents.
Demonstrated result: no content at all.
4. Re-login your session via X-org.
5. Repeat steps 2-3.
6. Make shure, that all is normal under X-org session.
Probably this bug maybe depends on Wayland or X-org rendering differences.
For me, this bug is not critical.
P.S.
Using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Beta on Lenovo ThinkPad T590 (same model:
https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=2bc1a5b44a#Host). Using internal Intel video
device (not external Nvidia MX250).
Screenshot attached.
[Bug 1920649] Re: ubuntu 20.04 LTS - aide crashes on initialization
2022-04-02 Thread Konstantin Kalmykov
I was wrong in my previous solutions.
Crashing AIDE is a result of default AIDE config only. When many audit
rules are configured, AIDE crashes because audit is running too fast.
And AIDE simply can not calculate sums, in case of file changes when
calculating. Keep in mind, that auditd reading messages from  kernel
audit generation mechanisms via syscalls (LSM hooks). Kernel is running
really a loot of sycalls in every second. The right solutions are:
1. Exclude your audit logs dirs (such as /var/log and/or /var/log/audit) from
AIDE rules. Maybe exclude every fast-changing directory from AIDE rules also.
2. Or install and configure AIDE before you configure auditd and (r)syslog
rules. But in this case you could take a lot of AIDE messages every check runs.
[Bug 1815278] Re: LyX restores the same cursor position wherever it was placed next time(s)
2021-12-15 Thread Konstantin Boyandin
@jmarc No, I have less than 100 files, but some of files are big; as far
as I know, positions are not restored for "sufficiently big" files, say
more than 1000 lines (paragraphs) of text.
If that matters, I can send the session file.
Windows sizes and file tabs sequence are restored correctly, AFAIS.
[Bug 1946623] [NEW] Asia/Novosibirsk zoneinfo file contains string 'Asia/Novosibirsk' instead of actual zone info
2021-10-11 Thread Konstantin Boyandin
Public bug reported:
OS: Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS
tzdata package: 2021a-2ubuntu0.18.04
Problem: the packages updates file
/usr/share/zoneinfo/Asia/Novosibirsk
with 17-byte file containing string 'Asia/Novosibirsk', instead of
actual zone info file.
The above leads to multiple hard to handle issues with a number of
installed software (e.g. PHP function mktime() begins to segfault
without a reason).
To fix that, I copy a valid file from 20.04.* distribution's latest
tzdata.
The above (mentioned file replacement) happens periodically without any
visible logic in it.
[Bug 1920649] Re: ubuntu 20.04 LTS - aide crashes on initialization
2021-07-26 Thread Konstantin Kalmykov
>> But after running for over an hour and a half, with zero bytes written to
aide.db.new, it was clearly not going anywhere, so I killed it.
Jeffry, I have officially approved hardware (Dell Vostro laptop, see
here Ubuntu HCL: https://ubuntu.com/certified/202006-27974) for my
Ubuntu 20.04. And even Ubuntu already was there, prepared by Dell (with
OEM 5.10 kernel, not default 5.6 or 5.8):
uname -a
Linux DV5301 5.10.0-1038-oem #40-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 16 15:08:30 UTC 2021 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=20.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=focal
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS"
So, first - probably it may be some different with OEM kernel, instead of
officially used kernel in 20.04 disro ISO.
Second - my laptop has very fast SSD device, but even there AIDE was running
around an hour. So If you have, for example, ordinary disk, such as SATA or
something like, it seemed to me, it may take long time to wait 'till AIDE
finishes check.
[Bug 1920649] Re: ubuntu 20.04 LTS - aide crashes on initialization
2021-07-25 Thread Konstantin Kalmykov
I can tell what I did to mitigate this bug, and It’s worked for me (do
it as power user or root):
1. Completely purge installed AIDE:
apt purge aide aide-common
rm -rf /var/log/aide
2. Install AIDE back again:
apt update
apt install aide-common aide-dynamic
3. Then rebuild config:
update-aide.conf
cp -v /var/lib/aide/aide.conf.autogenerated /etc/aide/aide.conf
4. Run init script:
aideinit -f
Then for me it was no errors, and AIDE running well.
FTR, on Archlinux this option is also not used, however the `--type
writecache` works fine. So either something changed in later versions,
or it might be that some other `configure` option is needed. The
Archlinux `lvm version` output is:
to post this on the askubuntu thread as an answer, and to the kernel
Could it eventually be that my dual-boot of windows and ubuntu makes
this unique problem? (Just as additional info for you)
Re: [Bug 1919440] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode
2021-03-18 Thread Konstantin Hebenstreit
Hello!
Here is a screencast I just made.
It shows that everytime i simply click on my 'AI_Master' folder it
always does a drag and drop.
But it does not do a drap and drop for other directories as Videos, or
Pictures or Home or Downloads...
Best,
Konstantin
[Bug 1919440] [NEW] Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode
2021-03-17 Thread Konstantin Hebenstreit
Public bug reported:
1) Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
3) I just expect to open a folder in my files.
4)
This only happens when I try to open specific folders.
First I open the files menu.
Then I click on one of my 'saved favorites' on the left side in the displayed
vertical list. they are between 'trash' and 'other locations'.
Whenever I click on these directories, which I put there to have fast access to
them, the cursor just makes a drag and drop. So I cannot really use them
anymore.
Only happens to these folders I put there, does not happen when I click on home
or downloads etc.
The Thunderbird Snap isn't really a great option because it struggles to
integrate well with the rest of the OS due to all kind of Snap
limitations. (E.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903805)
[Bug 1910913] [NEW] Deprecating gdebi
2021-01-10 Thread Konstantin
Public bug reported:
Purpose of gdebi is to allow installing packages from a file. However,
it's been 6 years since apt supported installation from a file¹. Let's
make it easier on both maintainers and the people who have to
install/use `gdebi` and then may need to search nuances, like passing
options to dpkg.
As far as I read gdebi man page, its functional seems fully covered by
apt. The only thing I'm a bit in doubts about is the `root` option. But
from my reading of docs, it seems that `gdebi --root=/foo myfile.deb`
would be analogous to `apt install -o Dpkg::Options::="--root=/foo"
./myfile.deb`.
So, my suggesttion: installing gdebi on currently supported releases
should print a deprecation notice that explains how a user can install
local files with `apt` instead. Then eventually remove gdebi from
repositories.
I tried contacting maintainers of gdebi to ask whether it's worth adding
a deprecation notice, but haven't found any ways to do that, and so I
went straight to creating a report here.
2020-12-04 Thread Konstantin Petrov
Public bug reported:
Hi:
I have a weird problem where on my screen appear random white horizontal
stripes. I could describe them as a noise but it is very noticeable when
I read /dev/random file.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Enable kde composer with vsycn enabled (any method will do).
2. Open some app which has black background.
3. Execute the following: dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/null bs=4096 count=100
oflag=sync
Results:
Random white horizontal stripes on the screen appear. Life time of every stripe
is less 1s.
[Bug 1903805] [NEW] Thunderbird snap keeps asking to be the default email client
2020-11-10 Thread Konstantin
Public bug reported:
Thunderbird snap 78.4.1 2020-11-09 (93)
running on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
The latest version keeps asking at every start whether I want to "Use
Thunderbird as the default client". I do. So I keep "Email" and "Always perform
this check when starting Thunderbird" checked and click "Set as Default".
When I quit and restart Thunderbird I'm prompted the same question again.
I would expect Thunderbird to set itself as default and no longer ask
this question.
Instead, Thunderbird either fails to set itself as default or it asks
the question despite being the default (not sure how to distinguish).
[Bug 1897709] [NEW] iproute2 is missing libnetlink.h and libnetlink.a
2020-09-29 Thread Konstantin
Public bug reported:
libnetlink library provides access to `man 3 libnetlink` functions. For
some reason, while `iproute2` package in Ubuntu has the manual page,
however both libnetlink.h file and libnetlink.a to actually use the
interfaces mentioned in the manual are absent. This is a packaging bug
for iproute2.
As another distro example: Archlinux includes the library and the header
as part of iproute2 package
[Bug 1891897] Re: pip3 install → 404 Client Error: Not Found
2020-08-30 Thread Konstantin
> However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the current
version of Ubuntu.
Thank you for reply. It is indeed an interesting fact that the bug was
long fixed both upstream and in latest Ubuntu. However Canonical
supports the older 18.04 up to 2023 year, and the problem is present in
18.04.
In other words, you can't close the report against supported Ubuntu
release, this kinda beats the purpose of "being supported". Please
reopen.
[Bug 1702368] Re: Mounted sshfs filesystems sometimes prevent suspend
2020-08-26 Thread Konstantin
This issue seems to have been fixed as of 5.8.3 kernel.
I recently reported this upstream
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208841 and after I was asked
to re-test with the newer kernel, it turned out the problem no longer
reproducible. I figured I should search if there were other reports of
this problem, so here I am: if you upgrade to at least 5.8.3, the
problem is absent.
[Bug 1891897] [NEW] pip3 install → 404 Client Error: Not Found
2020-08-17 Thread Konstantin
Public bug reported:
The ancient pip3 9.0.1-2 version in 18.04 has a bug that installing
vmware sdk results in the error in the title. Upstream report
https://github.com/vmware/vsphere-automation-sdk-python/issues/195
So either `pip3` needs to be upgraded, or the bugfix needs to be
backported to 18.04.
[Bug 1865388] [NEW] CDs are not mounted in file managers
2020-03-01 Thread Konstantin Pelepelin
Public bug reported:
In a fresh LUbuntu Desktop 18.04 installation in VirtualBox 6.0, in both
pcmanfm and nautilus I get the same error message when trying to insert
a CD:
Error mounting /dev/sr0 at /media/user/VBox_GAs_6.0.18: wrong fs type, bad
option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0, missing codepage or helper program, or
other error
The inserted CDs can be perfectly mounted by root into other empty
directory and read by normal mount command without any additional work.
Suggested directory does not exist. If I created it manually as root,
the other name was suggested.
[Bug 1861776] Re: fseek(…, …, SEEK_SET) causes reading over the skipped range
2020-02-05 Thread Konstantin
UPD: replaced 2.30 → 2.29 in the description. Per my colleague's test,
2.29 works too.
** Description changed:
  When fseek is called, it calls in turn 1. lseek(), and 2. read(). In
- glibc 2.30 (maybe earlier) read() is only called for the last block.
+ glibc 2.29 (maybe earlier) read() is only called for the last block.
  However in glibc 2.27 Ubuntu 18.04 is using, the read happens over the
  whole skipped range, which may cause a hang of an app that tries to skip
  too big range.
  There's is a related report:
  https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=25497 Note, per
- comments, in at least glibc 2.30 read() only happens for the *last
+ comments, in at least glibc 2.29 read() only happens for the *last
  block*. This means there was some fix for fseek() to not read over
  everything it skipped, which Ubuntu didn't backport to older glibc it's
  using.
  # Steps to reproduce
  In command below, replace `/dev/sda` if necessary with a device that is
  at least 2 GB in size.
  Run `sudo hexdump -C /dev/sda -s 0x8000 -n 1`. This command uses
  `hexdump` to print content of a disk at a large offset.
  ## Expected
  The command returns immediately with a print
  ## Actual
  The command hangs with high CPU load. If you use `strace hexdump …`,
  you'll see there a bunch of reads happens. These reads arise from glibc
  2.27 implementation of `fseek()`.
[Bug 1764417] Re: Unrecoverable failure in required component org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Color.desktop
2019-11-30 Thread Konstantin Hollerith
I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 since it came out, but are effected by this bug only
since two weeks.
What I noticed: I have a couple of programs setup to start automatically (via
gnome-session-properties). When I log in and get kicked out because of this
bug, those programs where never started at all. On a normal Login they start
fine.
[Bug 1849759] [NEW] Spyder3 uses wrong .desktop file/icon/button in favourites
2019-10-24 Thread Konstantin
Public bug reported:
Spyder, the python GUI, comes in two versions: "spyder" for python 2.7
and "spyder3" for python 3.x. When launching spyder3 on the standard
Ubuntu Gnome desktop, it registers as "spyder" (for python 2.7) in the
task bar. This mix up has a few annoying consequences:
- when opening both, spyder and spyder3, they share the same task bar
entry.
- when launching spyder3 and adding it as favourite (via right click on
the task bar -> add to favourites), the favourite that gets created is
for the python 2.7 version.
- It is possible to add spyder3 as favourite by searching for it (via
windows key -> type spyder3 -> right click -> add to favourites). But
then, when you launch it, the application creates a second icon in the
task bar and isn't associated with it's own favourite button.
