I'm also having this problem. My /home partition (ReiserFS) doesn't cleanly unmount at shutdown, replaying journal at every boot for this partition. I also see the '/ busy' message at shutdown, but don't see any jounral replaying for / at boot up. Anyone any idea on how to capture the shutdown console output? It scrolls by too fast to be able to read everything.
