[Bug 1751098] Re: Ubuntu hangs shortly after booting with kernel 4.13.0-36

2018-02-25 Thread Kristoffer Brissman
No, I did not make bug report yet, but I've tried a bunch of different
kernels to try and find out where the issue started.

I tried kernels from:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/artful/+source/linux
And:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D

The last good kernel was, as in your case 4.13.0-32.35 and the first bad
was 4.13.0-33.36. The ones from the mainline repo does not seem to have
the issue, nor did the 4.13.0-33 that Joseph posted earlier in this
thread.

[Bug 1751098] Re: Ubuntu hangs shortly after booting with kernel 4.13.0-36

2018-02-22 Thread Kristoffer Brissman
Sounds like different bug indeed. For me it hangs pretty much
immediately after GRUB and I don't even see the plymouth screen with the
Ubuntu logo or the password promt for dm-crypt. Tried many times, same
result every time.

I have quite different system specs as well, not the Dell laptop
mentioned earlier, but rather a desktop based on the AMD Ryzen CPU.

Perhaps I should wait and see how this goes and I'f I encounter the
problem after Joseph's issue is fixed then I file my own bug report?

2018-02-22 Thread Kristoffer Brissman
This kernel (4.13.0-36.40) hangs for me as well, but it's much earlier
in the boot process so it doesn't even get to the point where it would
ask me for my dm-crypt password. The fallback image (4.13.0-32.35) boots
fine though.

[Bug 1746163] Re: GLX apps are swapping at the wrong refresh rate under Xwayland

2018-02-03 Thread Kristoffer Brissman
Running my monitor at 119.88hz, yet xwayland is locked to 60fps. Causes
some severe stutter in anything from scrolling through webpages in
Firefox to games running through xwayland. This bug is a big reason why
I currently do not use Wayland for everyday tasks.

Not that I think it brings anything new to the table, but here's a

[Bug 1720820] Re: Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Wayland crashes on AMD graphics

2017-10-26 Thread Kristoffer Brissman
That's okay, I already have some workarounds as described in the initial
bug report, and Totem isn't my main video player of choice anyway.

Just thought I would point it out since Totem and Wayland are defaults
out of the box and this might cause some headaches for the not so tech
savvy folks who just want things to be working.

And as a sidenote, even on Xorg, Totem with hardware acceleration
doesn't work perfectly because I get a few distorted frames at random
intervals, about every 5 - 10 minutes. I guess that's for another bug
report though.

[Bug 1720820] [NEW] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Wayland crashes on AMD graphics

2017-10-02 Thread Kristoffer Brissman
Public bug reported:

Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Wayland crashes on my machine with AMD
Fury graphics card and open source drivers. Video output is just a black
frame and crash happens within just a few seconds after video playback
starts.

Could not reproduce bug on two older Intel laptops with iGPU's where
hardware acceleration seemed to work fine under Wayland.

Issue is only present on Wayland, not x.

I can get hardware accelerated video playback working on Wayland with
'mpv --hwdec=vaapi-copy --opengl-backend=wayland' but this is the only
way I have found so far. Even in mpv, no other option than vaapi-copy
works.

gst-play-1.0 outputs the following error:
ERROR Internal error: could not render surface for file:///***
ERROR debug information: ../../../gst/vaapi/gstvaapisink.c(1483):
gst_vaapisink_show_frame_unlocked ():
