[Bug 681361] Re: [945GM] dual screen crash with total resolution bigger than 2048x2048
Hello again Tested. When I use compiz without visual effects problem doesn't exist. I had mutter enabled when the problem was happening, well... I think mutter _is_ using some compositing or whatever... I've installed compiz-icon to enable compiz with it. Unfortunately I can't enable those visual effects right now- with or without dual-head. Any attempt makes windows loose it's decoration and then things fall back to previous settings. I must say that the 2048x2048 problem was looking quite similar- the X didn't crashed totally, only windows kept flickering, without its decorations, and then after a while it felt back to previous settings. I've installed intel drivers from natty; no difference (although it seems graphics are working a bit faster :-). Guys, I've just tried to start system (into X) several times with or without grub-editing without success (the out of memory error). The computer was powered off before starting. Then I've added nopat in grub command line- X system started as it should. Then I've rebooted without adding nopat parameter- and system started correctly again. [Bug 520497] Re: please convert the init script to an Upstart service
** Description changed: Binary package hint: cups Since the massive conversion of several packages from a traditional init.d script to an Upstart service, CUPS has difficulties interacting with other network-aware packages that depend upon the LSB header information used by insserv. Amazingly, CUPS is one of very few standard Ubuntu packages that have not yet been converted to an Upstart service. Doing this would resolve these unpleasant LSB issues and restore operation for other packages that CUPS interacts with. [Bug 555780] Re: /var on separate partition fails at boot time
Hm. You're right. I've commented out /etc/fstab lines with 'run and 'lock and system looks the same as before (and boots properly). Well, last time I've tried this was about 4 weeks ago- then boot process (lucid) hanged, I'm sure (I've tried few times to be sure this was fstab and /var issue). But this weekend was the first time I've found some spare time to try solve the issue. Maybe you did put some changes in the mean time or maybe this was caused by different package... Anyway- I can confirm everything works properly. Sorry for the mess, regards -- /var on separate partition fails at boot time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/555780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 555780] Re: /var on separate partition fails at boot time
I've investigated the issue and it looks it's not a initramfs-tools package problem but mountall problem. There is a file /lib/init/fstab from that package that has configuration lines with /var/run and /var/lock. It seems that one who has /var on separate partition should put lines for 'run and 'lock in his /etc/fstab to override the /lib/init/fstab lines. There should be some documentation, guide for users- then this bug would be partially solved. ** Package changed: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) = mountall (Ubuntu) -- /var on separate partition fails at boot time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/555780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 555780] Re: /var on separate partition fails at boot time
I've checked it thoroughly and I can confirm the bug. No documentation, no mention anywhere that if someone wants to mount somewhere in the directory tree first should check /lib/init/fstab and duplicate lines containing mount points inside directory he intends to mount and after his line. For ex.: UUID=4ef7876b-6d81-4f2c-a677-a7dd25716876 /varext4 user_xattr0 2 none/var/runtmpfs mode=0755,nosuid,showthrough0 0 none/var/lock tmpfs nodev, noexec, nosuid, showthrough 0 0 -- /var on separate partition fails at boot time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/555780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 555780] [NEW] /var on separate partition fails at boot time
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: initramfs-tools The problem is having /var on separate partition. I suppose initramfs' initrd generation script can't handle the situation properly. If I put /var separately in /etc/fstab (with correct copy of direcory tree of course) resulting system fails to boot. This can be /var/run and /var/lock mounted during the initramfs boot phase mounted to root ( / ) tree instead of /var tree. Therefore /var, if exists in fstab, should be mounted before /var/run and /var/lock in initramfs boot phase. Or /var/run and /var/lock should be binded to newly mounted /var again, somewhere at the end of boot phase. Well, I don't know the initramfs-tools so good... rgs ** Affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: all boot lucid -- /var on separate partition fails at boot time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/555780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
