[Bug 1922637] Re: held broken packages trying to upgrade from Groovy to Hirsute (Xubuntu, MATE)
This morning I tried removing xubuntu-core and xubuntu-desktop. "apt autoremove" showed nothing to remove. I ran "update-manager -d" and got to the window with the summary of changes (number of MB to download, etc). That is, I did not see the error that I get when ubuntu-mate- core, ubuntu-mate-desktop, xubuntu-core, and xubuntu-desktop are all installed. ** Summary changed: - held broken packages trying to upgrade from Groovy to Hirsute (Xubuntu, MATE) + held broken packages trying to upgrade from Hirsute to Impish (Xubuntu, MATE) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922637 Title: held broken packages trying to upgrade from Hirsute to Impish (Xubuntu, MATE) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1922637/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected hirsute ** Description changed: I have a VM that I've upgraded across several releases. It was originally installed with Xubuntu; I forget what release. It's been running Groovy (20.10) for a few months, and I recently (re)installed MATE. [Bug 1553626] Re: blank console after upgrading to 3.2.0-99
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected xenial ** Description changed: Ubuntu 12.04.5, ASUS model 1015E, x86_64 When I boot the 3.2.0-99 kernel on my ASUS netbook, I pretty much never get a working display manager. (I think it booted okay the first time after installing the kernel, but that's it.) Usually I just get a black display. I have also gotten - an almost complete login screen, except the background is wrong (uniform purple instead of my wallpaper), and trackpad clicks are ignored (but trackpad motion works) - stuck at the Ubuntu splash screen I once tried booting in recovery mode. I noticed a message about modprobe being terminated by signal 9, and I noticed several messages about modprobe timeouts. But other than that the messages didn't tell me anything that I could make sense of. I can ssh into the system. Unfortunately, "apport-bug linux" gets stuck (it still says "collecting problem information" after 30 minutes), so I'm filing this directly on Launchpad. I can get the apport configuration information from the 3.2.0-98 kernel (that kernel works just fine). I can also collect any log files, ps output, etc. that you'd like. lightdm does seem to be running. The only suspicious thing I see in the log files is that Xorg.0.log is missing a bunch of text that it contains when using the -98 kernel. I noticed that I had an out-of-date BIOS, but upgrading the BIOS did not fix anything. Reinstalling the -99 kernel did not help. + --- + ApportVersion: 2.20-0ubuntu3 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 1562 F pulseaudio + CasperVersion: 1.367 + CurrentDesktop: Unity + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 + LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Alpha amd64 (20160307) + MachineType: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. 1015E + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm-256color + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: file=/cdrom/preseed/username.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash --- maybe-ubiquity + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-10.25-generic 4.4.3 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-4.4.0-10-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-4.4.0-10-generic N/A + linux-firmware1.156 + Tags: xenial + Uname: Linux 4.4.0-10-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True + dmi.bios.date: 05/08/2013 + dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. + dmi.bios.version: 1015E.304 + dmi.board.asset.tag: ATN12345678901234567 + dmi.board.name: 1015E + dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. + dmi.board.version: 1.0 + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. + dmi.chassis.version: 1.0 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr1015E.304:bd05/08/2013:svnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:pn1015E:pvr1.0:rvnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:rn1015E:rvr1.0:cvnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:ct10:cvr1.0: + dmi.product.name: 1015E + dmi.product.version: 1.0 + dmi.sys.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. ** Attachment added: "AlsaInfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1553626/+attachment/4594524/+files/AlsaInfo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1553626 Title: blank console after upgrading to 3.2.0-99 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1553626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1553626] Re: blank console after upgrading to 3.2.0-99
I booted the -98 kernel, enabled wireless in Network Manager, and then booted the -99 kernel. I'm afraid apport-collect still stalls, and I still see rfkill stuck in D+ state. So, I can manually attach files from /var/log. Or I could try running apport-collect with the -98 kernel running. Let me know how to proceed. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1553626 Title: blank console after upgrading to 3.2.0-99 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1553626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1553626] [NEW] blank console after upgrading to 3.2.0-99
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04.5, ASUS model 1015E, x86_64 When I boot the 3.2.0-99 kernel on my ASUS netbook, I pretty much never get a working display manager. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1553626 Title: blank console after upgrading to 3.2.0-99 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1553626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I agree that putting-the-CD-in-after-unlocking is the more likely scenario, so I'm fine with pursuing that one. I should point out, though, that since my last update, I've been able to cause an oops with this scenario. (I've attached the relevant syslog.) The scenario was - unlock the display and do not click on the "Network disconnected" notification window that appears on the bottom of the display. (For some reason this notification window does not go away after some time. It stays around until I click on it.) - do some work with XEmacs - insert a CD - right-click on the CD icon on the desktop I then rebooted and tried the same scenario, but this time clicking on the notification window (to make it go away) before doing work in XEmacs. I then inserted the CD and right-clicked on the CD icon. This time Nautilus died. I'm particularly interested in scenarios that cause an oops, because they take more time to recover from and are more likely to lead to lost work. ** Attachment added: "syslog.20120812" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1032035/+attachment/3260146/+files/syslog.20120812 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1032035 Title: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 00ff7ff9; RIP: 0010:[] [] poll_freewait+0x8e/0xe0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1032035/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm afraid I was unable to reproduce the problem with the Lucid (10.04.4) liveCD. I've also noticed that I cannot reproduce the problem if the CD is in the drive and mounted when I suspend the computer. OTOH, I can reproduce the problem if I put the CD in the drive, wait for it to mount, eject the CD, suspend the computer, resume the computer, and then put the CD back in the drive. Latest syslog is attached; see the BUG messages starting at 11:20:17. (Again, this is with GNOME shell, not Compiz/Unity.) [Bug 1032035] [NEW] crash shortly after resuming from suspend and inserting CD, using GNOME shell
Public bug reported: I seem to have found a reproducible way to crash my ZaReason AMD Breeze: login to a GNOME 3 session, suspend (to RAM) and resume, then insert a CD into the internal drive, then unlock the screen, then try to view the CD with Nautilus. I'm 3-for-3 in causing a failure this way. The first 2 times were with the 3.0.0-23-generic #39 kernel, the 3rd time was with 3.0.0-22-generic #36. (Well, the failure on the -22 kernel wasn't really a crash, but I did get a series of "Bad page map" errors in /var/log/syslog tied to Nautilus.) I tried once to reproduce the crash using Unity on the 3.0.0-23-generic #39 kernel but did not have any problems. The crash message varies. [Bug 907168] Re: [ 3.0.0-14 regression ] Radeon 3200 GPU blank screen on resume
I've done several successful suspend/resumes with the 3.3rc6 kernel, using Xubuntu, Ubuntu, and Ubuntu 2D sessions. No failed resumes. I think it likely that I would have triggered the blank-screen bug at least once if I had been running the 3.0.0.16 kernel during that time. FWIW, I did have one failed suspend, where the system appeared to go into an S1 sleep (monitor on standby, but fan and power light still on). That required power cycling to get out of. I suspect it's not relevant for the purposes of this bug, but I thought I'd mention it. ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.3-rc6 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/907168 Title: [ 3.0.0-14 regression ] Radeon 3200 GPU blank screen on resume To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/907168/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 946100] Re: package linux-image-3.2.0-17-generic 3.2.0-17.27 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
@Joseph I did. IIRC, the "apt-get install -f" failed (see 946113), the "apt-get clean" finished okay, and the "apt-get update" failed partway through with complaints that it couldn't download files that it needed. I may have a typescript file saved in the VM, if you'd like details. At this point I started getting errors about / being read-only, so I rebooted and redid the "apt-get update", which succeeded. I then tried the reinstall, which failed, as described in comment #6. In hindsight, I think I should have uninstalled update-manager and update-manager-core after the failure of "apt-get install -f", and then retried the "install -f", but I didn't think of that until much later. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946100 Title: package linux-image-3.2.0-17-generic 3.2.0-17.27 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/946100/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 946100] [NEW] package linux-image-3.2.0-17-generic 3.2.0-17.27 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Public bug reported: Upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04 Beta 1, I got a pop-up saying Could not install 'linux-image-3.2.0-17-generic' subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 I was unable to retrieve any additional information from the log window. This was in a 32-bit VirtualBox VM, running on an amd64 host (also running 11.10). I looked in /boot/grub, and it looked like the new kernel was registered with grub, so I chanced a restart. Booting the new kernel gave me a blank screen. After waiting a bit, I shut down the VM and booted the 3.0.0-16 kernel from Oneiric, which is what's being used to submit this bug report. [Bug 541595] Re: [Master] package failed to install/upgrade: package is already installed and configured
Just ran into this upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04 Beta 1. I got a pop-up complaining that the installation of update-manager-core had failed because of a problem with exc_tests.py (I'll file a separate bug for that), then later I got a separate pop-up with the "already installed and configured" message. After resuming from a suspend, the display for my desktop occasionally stays in power-save mode. I can ssh into the box, but neither mouse movement or keyboard activity brings the display to life. I don't believe it's a problem with those peripherals, as the NumLock LED responds to presses of the NumLock key. [Bug 924046] [NEW] xemacs crashes when using MH-E to view message with PNG attachment
Public bug reported: An email that contains a PNG attachment can crash XEmacs 21.4.22 when viewed using MH-E. I'll attach a C stacktrace from gdb and a sample message. I've reproduced this on x86_64 and i686 systems, both running Ubuntu 11.10. This appears to be the same as XEmacs issue570 (http://tracker.xemacs.org/XEmacs/its/issue570), for which there is a patch at http://list-archive.xemacs.org/pipermail/xemacs-patches/2009-September/007961.html. The fix has been applied to the dev version of XEmacs 21.4, and a new release is planned soon, but I don't know if it will be in time for Precise. [Bug 916310] Re: assertion failure on shutdown in Mouse::updateVMMDevMouseCaps(uint32_t, uint32_t)
Forgot to mention--the guest additions are installed on the guest. And FWIW it's actually an Xubuntu 11.10 guest, not Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916310 Title: assertion failure on shutdown in Mouse::updateVMMDevMouseCaps(uint32_t, uint32_t) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/+bug/916310/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
