After upgrade to 22.04 machine freezes at boot.
Booting is possible in recovery mode.
If I do not select recovery, machine silently hangs.

  Steps I've taken:

  1) added acpi=off to the kernel params.
ACPI errors were visible scrolling past

  1) Created and ran a boot-repair disk.
The only effect was to reduce the amount of visual feedback during the

[Bug 1656394] Re: TCP autobind almost always returns an even numbered port

2017-10-25 Thread Kurt Miller
Hi Jan, sorry no I didn't check 17.10. I ended up using 10G nics for the
time being. At some point I would like to bond those nics, but wont be
able to due to this bug.

[Bug 1656394] Re: TCP autobind almost always returns an even numbered port

2017-01-15 Thread Kurt Miller
More data for the report. Testing using a different program shows the
same results. In this case I used a python program called getput to test
the performance of an openstack swift node. All the source ports are
even numbered in the netstat output which prevents LACP xmit_hash_policy
layer3+4 to load balance the outgoing connections:

kurt@cypher:~$ netstat -4

[Bug 1656394] [NEW] TCP autobind almost always returns an even numbered port

2017-01-13 Thread Kurt Miller
Public bug reported:

Summary:

TCP source ports assigned by autobind results in even number ports
almost always. This causes issues with LACP xmit_hash_policy layer3+4
policy as only the first nic in a two port bond will be utilized.

Details:

Expected behaviour:

TCP autobind assigning source ports either sequentially by 1, or more
securely randomly.

Note that after multiple attempts TCP autobind may result in an odd
numbered source port, however it predominately results in even numbered
source ports.

Here is an example where one port was odd out of 15 ports. The result is
that LACP xmit_hash_policy layer3+4 is able to direct that connection
over a different nic and the resulting bandwidth is doubled (2x 1G nic
in LACP):

[Bug 1436188] Re: bose soundlink color: bluetooth always disconnects 1 times

2015-05-17 Thread Kurt Miller
I agree and this is quite annoying. I had to write a script to
disconnect and reconnect the soundlink to expedite the inevitable
toggling of the connection.

2013-01-06 Thread Kurt Miller
And if you have another java (Oracle), adding a link in

 /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/bin to /usr/bin/java

also seems to fix it as well...

[Bug 843431] Re: Logitech camera microphone does not work / makes "chipmunk" sound

2011-10-24 Thread Kurt Miller
This is quick and dirty set of patching instructions. No guarantees to
match your installation exactly but it should give you a pretty good
idea of what is involved.

sudo apt-get install make-kpkg
sudo apt-get install kernel-package
sudo apt-get install kernel-image
sudo apt-get install libncurses5-dev

# create a dir: mkdir kernel
# cd kernel

sudo apt-get source linux-image-3.0.0-12-generic
cd linux-3.0.0
make menuconfig
#goto: Device Drivers/Staging drivers/RTS5139 and disable (buggy driver that
hangs compile)
cd ..

wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/843431/+attachment/2566636/+files/843431.patch

patch linux-3.0.0/drivers/usb/core/quirks.c < 843431.patch
cd linux-3.0.0
sudo CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=4 make-kpkg --initrd kernel-image kernel-headers
cd ..
dpkg -i linux-image-3.0.4_3.0.4-10.00.Custom_amd64.deb
linux-headers-3.0.4_3.0.4-10.00.Custom_amd64.deb

(filenames will be different depending on your architecture etc.)

In the meantime...

Workaround until the 3.0 kernel gets sorted: http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.38.8-natty/

Download:

linux-headers-2.6.38-02063808_2.6.38-02063808.201106040910_all.deb
linux-headers-2.6.38-02063808-generic_2.6.38-02063808.201106040910_i386.deb
linux-image-2.6.38-02063808-generic_2.6.38-02063808.201106040910_i386.deb

I put them in a separate dir and then run: dpkg -i *

Select the 2.6xxx kernel in grub and voila! No more webcam mic
headaches while we wait for the fixes to gel.

[Bug 843431] Re: Logitech camera microphone does not work / makes "chipmunk" sound

2011-10-21 Thread Kurt Miller
Just an FYI. Sound Recorder and Skype were both not responding after I
uninstalled ubuntu-desktop that depends on some of the ALSA stuff.
After reinstalling ubuntu-desktop they both started to at least
acknowledge the mic albeit with the "chipmunk" nonsense.

Sordna, does that patch seem to work? If so, where can I grab it?

[Bug 858412] Re: Regression: Logitech webcam microphone makes "chipmunk" sound after Oneiric beta upgrade

2011-10-21 Thread Kurt Miller

I see others have steered you toward http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/daily/ as the source for the 3.1.0-999-generic kernel.

Anyway, that solved the problem only momentarily.

Basically everything having to do with the mic on the webcam is
unstable. At one point, Sound Recorder was working normally while Skype
was not - a complete reverse of the situation I had before. Now Sound
Recorder is back to "chipmunk" mode and Skype won't play back anything
on a test call even though the input meter shows good sound levels
coming in from the mic.

2011-10-20 Thread Kurt Miller
Using: ID 046d:080a Logitech, Inc. Portable Webcam C905
Running: 3.1.0-999-generic

After installing the kernel yesterday the "chipmunk" problem went away
so I thought it was solved. But, today it's doing it again. And, when
I say it went away, I'm referring only to Skype. Sound recorder still
had the same problem and the kernel upgrade didn't help.

FYI: I added the 3.1.0-999-generic kernel and that took care of the
Skype chipmunk problem. However, the chipmunk persists in Sound
Recorder.
