[Bug 538757] Re: volume change sound effect (audio-volume-change) does not play when volume is changed

This should work when changing the volume with hardware volume keys,
because we are using gnome-settings-daemon's media keys plugin. (Maybe
we didn't back when this bug was filed.)

it isn't concerned with audio devices at all. It simply sets the volume
of pulse's default audio device.

[Bug 752033] Re: Music player should not show its main window if it launches when play button is pressed

2013-10-30 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Xavier, I very much agree. We just need one additional thing in .desktop
files: Implements.

Then we could have Implements=org.freedesktop.MediaPlayer, which entails
having the actions you're suggestions (don't even need to be GActions,
org.freedesktop.Application has an ActivateAction as well).

I'm planning to write this up at some point and suggest it on the next
freedesktop summit.

[Bug 1245495] Re: Rhythmbox controls and track info broken

2013-10-29 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Hi Ben. Thanks for reporting these bugs.

The sound menu uses MPRIS to find out about and communicate with media
players on the system. MPRIS doesn't support passing the timestamp of
the click to the media player, which is needed for focus stealing
prevention. We're trying to get it into the spec[1]. We used to have
some hacks for gtk applications, which got lost in a recent refactor of
indicator-sound.

Can you give more detail on the track info and album art problem? I
can't reproduce it on my machine. Can you please attach the output of

gdbus call --session --dest org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.rhythmbox --object-
path /org/mpris/MediaPlayer2 --method
org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.GetAll 'org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Player'

when this happens again?

[Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2013-10-28 Thread Lars Uebernickel
** Description changed:

Just going about my business on Ubuntu Raring amd64 on an x230 and I
heard the fan kick into action. top showed me that unity-panel-service
was consuming all the free cycles on one of my CPUs. I killed it before
my machine overheated, so I didn't attach a debugger to see why it was
  totally pegging out a CPU.

I'm not sure if this adds any context, but I was using a LibreOffice
spreadsheet and I could not insert a table because the menu had lost
it's mind, and then I observed the overly loaded CPU a very short while
  after that.
+
+ TEST CASE:
+
+ Open a large image in the GIMP and activate a lot of items from the
+ global menu. Using shortcuts is enough and faster to reproduce this bug
+ (I've always used Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Shift+A). Memory usage of unity-panel-
+ service increases steadily and it uses a lot of CPU shortly after
+ activating the menu items in a short time.

Thanks for reporting this bug. I don't think having a separate indicator
for each application is something we want. It clutters the panel with
colored icons and would lead to lots of menus with very few items.

Note that bug #906043 is similar to this one. It's about making it more
obvious which application requested attention after opening the menu.

[Bug 1232615] Re: Extra 'None' location shown in time settings

2013-10-21 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Thanks for reporting this bug. I can't reproduce this on my system. Do
you remember what you did that caused this extra entry to appear?

[Bug 1236413] Re: Dates of messages wrong when switching timezone

2013-10-16 Thread Lars Uebernickel
This is a not a bug in indicator-messages, but unity8, because the
service supplies timestamps in UTC.

The messaging menu in unity7 doesn't have that bug, as it is only
showing relative times.

[Bug 1238985] Re: system-settings-page can get out of sync when using indicator

2013-10-16 Thread Lars Uebernickel
This is a bug in the ui toolkit: the binding on the slider's value gets
broken when the slider is moved manually.

I've attached an example that shows this problem. Moving the bottom
slider adjusts the top slider until moving the top slider once.

** Package changed: ubuntu-system-settings (Ubuntu Saucy) = ubuntu-ui-
toolkit (Ubuntu Saucy)

** Attachment added: test.qml
