[Bug 1931368] Re: Visuals temporarily resets to earlier state

[Bug 1931368] Re: Visuals temporarily resets to earlier state
An additional observation - something that makes writing code in vim- style environments even more aggravating. It appears that only events accepted by the current application (e.g. vim in a console window) can get the visuals back to what they should be. And since vim don't generally do anything about wiggle-mouse type of events, I have to do something with the keyboard, which in vim often will mean doing something disruptive to what I'm actually trying to do. Say I'm searching for a symbol that I want to do something with - I find it, but the visuals immediately reverts back to where I was. I can use one of the movement commands, which will then get me back in the right vicinity, but no longer at the characther where I planned to do something. Additional info - currently running Intel graphics, although nvidia exists via the Prime stuff. I don't normally bother to deal with it since I mostly do programming work that don't involve heavy graphics. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931368 Title: Visuals temporarily resets to earlier state To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-workspace/+bug/1931368/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1931368] [NEW] Visuals temporarily resets to earlier state
Public bug reported: I upgraded to Kubuntu 21.04 from 20.10 two days ago. Since then, whenever I do something (type or use mouse/touchpad) I have this issue where the visuals I see seems to revert to an earlier (cached?) state for a very short while. E.g. (just observed on the previous line) I am writing wherever (console, here, ...), and after having written a word or new character, I for a short while (it seems that is mostly until the next input event, so for example often I have to wiggle the mouse), I see the state a very short while ago, e.g. before I wrote the last two letters, then gets back to actual state. This creates a very annoying jumping effect. I have also seen it in mouse driven operations, e.g. closing an image in Twitter via the X the image disappearing, coming back, then finally properly disappearing, or sorting lists by clicking sort indicators at the top reverting sorting for a short while. I chose the plasmashell app, since ubuntu-bug more or less requires an application/package, but I just note that this issue seems to generally be present on all aspects of my desktop - all applications and desktop decorations. But it is most disruptive when I work/code using vim. I am on a Dell Precision 5530, with Intel graphics enabled. [Bug 1300215] Re: Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_i965.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
After upgrading to Kubuntu 15.04 (via 14.10) from 14.04, I started having new issues with overheating. I have a Dell XPS 13 (Developer edition) with Intel HD4000. In particular it is now difficult to watch HD videos (e.g. from Crunchyroll.com), whether through Firefox or Chrome. After a couple of minutes, the CPU throttles hard as it gets too hot (verified with sensors), making the video unwatchable. This is not an issue I observed back when I was running 14.04. After reading around, I installed the vdpau libraries, but that didn't help. I then found this issue, and saw that vdpauinfo gave the same error report. I don't know that it is a very good workaround yet, but doing VDPAU_DRIVER=va_gl firefox got me through the video I was watching without throttling (it still got relatively hot though). The suggestion with the ppa above did not work as apt refused to use that repo. To me, due to the overheating, this seems to be a rather critical issue. ** Tags added: vivid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300215 Title: Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_i965.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvdpau/+bug/1300215/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 695285] [NEW] Sleep causes reboot instead of resume (Dell Studio XPS laptop)
Public bug reported: If I put the laptop into sleep mode, either by choosing it from the logout dialog, or putting down the lid, it does not resume as it should. After initiating sleep, this appears to have worked well. The laptop flashes the power button and a side light indicator as it normally does in sleep and hibernation mode. However, when opening the lid, or pressing the power button, the session is not resumed. Instead, grub is started, and a normal boot with a new session is started. I have not tested if hibernation cause similar issues as I don't normally use hibernation. [Bug 695292] [NEW] No sound devices present (Dell Studio XPS laptop)
Public bug reported: This is a regression after I upgraded to Natty - however, a similar (or the same) problem was present back in 10.04 at which point I figured out some way to configure it to work somewhat. I discovered the issue now as I tried to use spotify and amarok, neither of which created any sound, neither on speakers, nor headphones. KMix also shows no devices to adjust. According to lspci, I have 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05) I think the fixes in the previous versions included the STAC92xx driver. The hardware seems to have: 1 x mic input jack port. 2 x output/headphone jack port 2 x built-in mics (1 analog, 1 digital?), or at least there are two microphone holes, one on each side of the camera 1 x hdmi Part of the issues I had with the previous Ubuntu versions was that I was never able to get the built-in microphone(s) working with programs like skype. Never tried the jack as I don't have a useful microphone readily available. I don't mind helping with testing various configurations, but it would be good if this stuff could be properly auto-detected. Sound not working out of the box is very non-intuitive and an issue when I wish to recommend Ubuntu to people. I seem to have the same issue on Maverick, albeit more extreme at times. When I log on to the computer, the wireless connects and disconnects several times per minute. After a while, the connection starts to stick for longer periods, but it always disconnects no later than during the night. My network card is product: Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 vendor: Intel Corporation The hint mentioned above regarding heavy load, also jives with my experiences, as my saved sessions tend to cause a lot of traffic at log on. How would I know if recommended install is disabled or not? I certainly didn't do it myself. This computer was initially installed as 09.10 Kubuntu, and then upgraded to Lucid around the release of Beta 1. So presumably this then is an upgrade issue (or was an upgrade issue). I have now installed the kubuntu theme package, and will see if it works on the next reboot (in a few minutes). -- plymouth doesn't start properly on Dell Studio XPS with Radeon Mobility HD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569716 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 553979] [NEW] Pulling down yakuake cause system hang with graphic glitch
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yakuake This started to happen after kernel 2.6.31-19 was installed on my Lucid install. So far I have not observed it with earlier kernels, and with the -19 kernel, it happens most of the time. [Bug 324398] [NEW] Using web difficult with dark KDE theme
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: konqueror-kde4 I say difficult to be nice, but I consider this totally and utterly broken. I use one of the KDE 4 dark themes (Zion (Reversed)), and a very large portion of the Internet's web pages are more or less broken. To reproduce, change to the theme mentioned (or Obsidian), and try to edit some of the fields in this bug report. This particular field is ok, but I can't see (without marking) what I wrote in summary and the chosen application field. In addition, I have no idea which radio buttons are checked (and on some pages which check boxes are checked). Originally this only applied to Konqueror, such that I could switch to Firefox for my banking needs (I don't dare typing wrong there!), but recently Firefox decided to pick up the KDE theme too, and now internet is as broken there. I am aware that the issue sorta is with the web pages out there, having authors to unimaginative to think that anyone could have dark themes, and thus account for that, but when such a large portion of the web is broken, then _I_ think that it is the browser(s) that is broken. At the _very least_ there needs to be an option such that I can choose not to use desktop theme on the web pages I visit. Even those that are readable/usable, usually are ugly with a theme they didn't expect. Some say it should be possible to create a css for this, but one can't expect users to do that! Also, according to the KDE bug report that I'll register with this report afterwards, it is mentioned that some form elements may still be overridden, making a css useless. I was overjoyed by the thourough implementation of dark themes in KDE 4, and extremely saddened by the browsers doing the same. It is a major annoyment that I encounter at least once every hour of the work day. ** Affects: kdebase Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: kdebase-kde4 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: KDE Bug Tracking System #47320 http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47320 ** Also affects: kdebase via http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47320 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- Using web difficult with dark KDE theme https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/324398 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

After I turned off all effects, I see no more artifacts, however - with them on, I could see quite a bit in addition to the effects being absurdly slow. In particular, when I opened a new window, I just got interference pixels until the proper window showed up. -- Poor graphics performance and rendering errors on Intel GM965 system, Ubuntu 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: knode Version 0.99.01 - using KDE 4.1.2 - installed via Kubuntu Intrepid It uses more and more memory, and top shows it can use several hundred megabytes after few mintues - it seems to me that it does not allocate by itself (ie when I do nothing), but if I choose a different NG for browsing, even if it has been browsed before, increases the memory usage by some megabytes. [Bug 138461] wrong dimensions reported to window managers
Public bug reported: I have observed this on two laptops, but this report is based mainly on the newest one, a Dell XPS m1330 which I'm installing Kubuntu Gutsy on. The graphics card is an Intel X3100. The other also has an Intel card and is installed with Feisty, with an upgraded X (to the Intel modesettings driver). The size of the monitor on this laptop is 1280x800, and xorg observes this correctly, and sets the correct mode as seen by running xrandr on the command line. The WM however (tested with both KDE and Xfce (Xubuntu)), seems to not get any proper information about available modes. The following link is for a screenshot showing both KDE settings dialog and xrandr output: http://larsivi.net/files/xrandrandkdesettings.png The result of this is that 1) There are artifacts when logging in to KDE as the graphics are adjusted for a 1024x768 to the upper left (i.e the actual resolution is correct, but things are only drawed in the upper left area, ignoring the rest). 2) kicker at first login is placed as if the monitor has a resolution of 1024x768. If I manually move it, it extends correctly to the full width, and I can place it at the bottom. On subsequent logins, this is remembered. 3) when opening the K-menu, it is not connected to kicker, but starts somewhat further up, I assume to fit into the 1024x768 window. 4) when maximizing a window, it always maximizes into the 1024x768 area to the upper left. I can manually extend it to use all the screen estate. Maximizing it again will again give it the 1024x768 size. The next link shows a screen shot of a maxmized Konqueror. http://larsivi.net/files/detectingwrongscreensize.png I have tried 'kwin --replace' and 'dcop kdesktop MainApplication- Interface quit kdesktop' without any notable differences. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- wrong dimensions reported to window managers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138461 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 91363] Re: compiz-core fails on upgrade from edgy to feisty
I couldn't be bothered to have this hanging around, so I rectified the situation locally prior to these last comments. What I tried first, was to update my apt with the edgy repository instead and then try to remove compiz-core. This resulted in the same problem, so this particular issue seems to lie in the edgy package, not the feisty one as I assumed. At that point I deleted the failing script from /var/.../something and apt-get removed the package. If there is some debris still laying around, it don't seem to cause me any troubles so on my account, this problem is out of the world. -- compiz-core fails on upgrade from edgy to feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/91363 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 73620] Sudden crash via QPixmap
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: konqueror There is no obvious reason for this, it just happens suddenly, about once a day, usually with Konqueror, but it has also happened for a couple of other applications (Kopete and Konversation IIRC). The backtrace always involves QPixmap, like the one in https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/skim/+bug/64895 It is mildly annoying .. [Bug 55343] Re: Won't read list of files from mounted camera
It turned out that the reason for this is that the camera now is mounted as /media/usbdisk instead of /media/sdb1 Changing the path in digikam fix the issue, but to actually find out what happened I had to look at the properties for the mounted device in konqui: media:/ So it's not a digikam bug, but possibly a configuration error in either KDE or Kubuntu, or at least missing information somewhere. -- Won't read list of files from mounted camera https://launchpad.net/bugs/55343 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 55343] Won't read list of files from mounted camera
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: digikam Using digikam 0.8.2-rc1 and KDE 3.5.4 (latest updates as of now). I have a Fujifilm Finepix F10, a mountable camera, that is, I can mount the content and open it in konqueror using media:/sdb1 I have it setup in digikam to read the content from the camera using the Mounted Camera option, and the path /media/sdb1. This has worked for a length of time, but after upgrading KDE to 3.5.4, this don't work anymore. It still works fine mounting the camera and see / use the content in Konqueror, but when I try to open the camera in digikam I get the (internationalized) message: Klarte ikkje laga oversikt over filer i «/media/sdb1» which translates to 'Couldn't make a listing of files in /media/sdb1' ** Affects: digikam (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Won't read list of files from mounted camera https://launchpad.net/bugs/55343 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
