[Bug 492034] Re: [STAGING] realtek rtl8192su chipset based USB wireless devices fail to work

2010-11-16 Thread Laurynas Butkus
Thanks a lot, Tony!!!

Copied firmware folder from CD to /lib/firmware/(kernel version/.

Default Ubuntu driver r8192s_usb works perfectly!

We're on Ubuntu Maverick 64bit.

Ubuntu currently wouldn’t load kernel driver automatically, so we added to
/etc/modules:
r8192s_usb

To load manually by hand:
sudo modprobe r8192s_usb

Works on Ubuntu Maverick 64bit with following cards:
Canyon wireless LAN USB adapter 150N CNP-WF518N2 (rtl8188su)
Delock USB 2.0 wlan_n Stick 300 Mbps (rtl8191s)

Actually I haven't. That's desktop computer assembled locally in
Lithuania so I guess it can be tricky to find right bios update...
Anyway, thanks for the tip!

[Bug 574281] [NEW] Network problem in Lucid with RTL-8139 (solved)

2010-05-03 Thread Laurynas Butkus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

After upgrade to Lucid my network stopped working and system became unstable -
random freezes.
When booting from live cd it was the same. Looks like some hardware conflict.

SOLUTION: add noapic to grub kernel options.

My fixed kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst looks like this:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic
root=UUID=b53c210d-3a12-4afc-9f8b-3fd73878bb41 ro quiet splash noapic

I reproduced this problem on two identical PCs.

I was experiencing this problem with Eclipse. File was saved, but there
were occasional alerts about file being modified. I guess it has
something to do with file timestams handling.

[Bug 73544] Re: enabled desktop effects window decoration

2007-10-29 Thread Laurynas Butkus
I had window title bar problem in Gutsy with effects enabled after
upgrade from Feisty.

Tried solution suggested by danielhollocher, it worked:
1. disable restricted nvidia drivers
2. restart
3. enable desktop effects (fetches new nvidia driver)
4. restart
5. enjoy :)

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-10-04 Thread Laurynas Butkus
I also get the same problem (warning that someone else modified file
after save) in Feisty with Eclipse. Somehow I guess that it migth be
cause with server/client time sync, because after running ntpdate on
both, it happens only occasionally. Maybe when part or the second
differs. But that's just my guess.

I see a note about someone fixing this compiling latest cifs module:

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-10-04 Thread Laurynas Butkus
also, I guess this could be related with:

from 'man smb.conf'
--
 dos filetimes (S)
Under DOS and Windows, if a user can write to a file they can change
the timestamp on it. Under POSIX semantics, only the owner of the file or
root may change the timestamp. By default, Samba runs with POSIX
semantics and refuses to change the timestamp on a file if the user smbd is
acting on behalf of is not the file owner. Setting this option to
yes allows DOS semantics and smbd(8) will change the file
timestamp as DOS requires. Due to changes in Microsoft Office 2000 and beyond,
the
default for this parameter has been changed from no to yes in
Samba 3.0.14 and above. Microsoft Excel will display dialog box warnings
about the file being changed by another user if this parameter is not
set to yes and files are being shared between users.

  Default: dos filetimes = yes
--

but changing dos filetimes option does not solve the problem

[Bug 146367] An extra 'executable' bit is seen when POSIX ACL is used by Samba

2007-09-28 Thread Laurynas Butkus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

It happens on Feisty server with latest security updates.

I'm using POSIX acl's to force some groups permissions. On server
filesystem everything works fine. I share this folder with Samba.

Problem occures when I mount this folder from the client as 'cifs'
filesystem. New files created by the client are becoming automatically
executable (they shouldn't).

There is a patch in the Samba mailinglist:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2006-September/049397.html

I have rebuilt ubuntu samba deb with this patch applied - PROBLEM
SOLVED.

This fix is important because I couldn't find any other way to use ACL
on network filesystem in Ubuntu. NFS ACLs are disabled in default Feisty
kernel.

[Bug 146367] Re: An extra 'executable' bit is seen when POSIX ACL is used by Samba

2007-09-28 Thread Laurynas Butkus
It seems that it was not included into samba fixes. I have also added comment
to:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4268

Actually after further investigations, samba it looks like samba still
calculates posix acls a bit differently from native system.

This patch solved my problem with executables, but I still get some
unexpected permissions (I can live with them...). Maybe someone who
really knows how POSIX acls works, could have a look at samba posix acl
handling.

And sorry, I put incorrect link to the patch. I used corrected version.

Same for me after upgrade to Feisty. Video card: GeForce 7300 GS.
This also happens on other PC with older NVidia card. Not sure if it is video
card related - haven't checked on other computers.
