[Bug 1934893] [NEW] libc6 2.33 breaks gdb 10.1

2021-07-07 Thread Levi Bard
Public bug reported:

Symptoms: attaching gdb to any program that uses pthreads will result in
fatal errors like "Cannot find user-level thread for LWP 192701: generic
error"

The upstream bug is
https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=27744

It looks like the fix has already been adopted in
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/2.33-0ubuntu7 , but it needs
to be backported to 21.04/hirsute

It's definitely not (directly) related to either of those - I can't even
get the display to come back on, let alone enter a password at the lock
screen.

[Bug 1726306] [NEW] Failure to reactivate display after locking

2017-10-23 Thread Levi Bard
Public bug reported:

I'm using a laptop with no external monitors attached (System76 Oryx Pro
2016).

After the screen is locked (either manually or via timeout) and it
blanks/deactivates the screen, the display remains deactivated and my session
is unrecoverable.
(I can still ssh into the machine, but have so far been unable to get the
display back without rebooting, even via restarting gdm.)

It seems somewhat similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1715811 , but it's
only after the display is deactivated, and not at boot.

The scope of the problem seems to be compounded by the fact that there's
no straightforward way to prevent gnome-shell from blanking the screen
when it locks.

[Bug 1451689] Re: 0cf3:3004 Bluetooth driver is not being loaded

2015-06-10 Thread Levi Bard
FWIW, it looks like the windows drivers at
http://www.killernetworking.com/support/driver-downloads contain patch
and ramp files that look like they should match (at least, the names are
correct). However, the binary format doesn't appear to match the other
patch and ramp files (e.g. the last 8 bytes of the patch file aren't the
rom version and build version).

Are we supposed to be able to use these out-of-the-box, or is there some
preprocessing that needs to happen? Or did qualcomm just completely
change the format?

[Bug 1455617] [NEW] External HDMI connection fails after upgrade from nvidia-340

2015-05-15 Thread Levi Bard
Public bug reported:

The computer in question is a retina macbook pro 10,1.
I have a television that I normally connect to via the builtin HDMI port.
After the upgrade from Ubuntu 14.10 to Ubuntu 15.04 (and thus to the nvidia-346
driver), the television no longer recognizes the connection from the macbook
when I plug in the HDMI cable (although the Display Settings app,
nvidia-settings, and xrandr do (apparently correctly) see the TV).

I verified that I do see the correct behavior after downgrading to
nvidia-340, and also that installing nvidia-349 (from the xorg-edgers
ppa) does not remedy the issue.

[Bug 1387711] Re: Unity doesn't respect NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS

2014-11-14 Thread Levi Bard
In that case, I have no idea how I'm supposed to remove allowed actions using
this atom.
Reading the specification makes me think that passing a list that doesn't
include _NET_WM_ACTION_RESIZE should cause it to be removed from the list:
'Atoms present in the list indicate allowed actions, atoms not present in the
list indicate actions that are not supported for this window. The Window
Manager MUST keep this property updated to reflect the actions which are
currently active or sensitive for a window.'

If the property change isn't reflected, maybe it's an xorg bug instead?
Or maybe the properties are getting (re-)initialized by the decorator
when the window is mapped?

[Bug 1387711] [NEW] Unity doesn't respect NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS

2014-10-30 Thread Levi Bard
Public bug reported:

According to http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spec/latest/ar01s05.html :
Atoms present in the list indicate allowed actions, atoms not present in the
list indicate actions that are not supported for this window. The Window
Manager MUST keep this property updated to reflect the actions which are
currently active or sensitive for a window.

However, if I set NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS to a list not containing
NET_WM_ACTION_RESIZE (along with the MAXIMIZE atoms), I can still
resize/maximize the window using the mouse. Only by forcing min and max
size in the WM normal hints can I achieve the desired behavior.

[Bug 1299058] [NEW] After installation alongside OSX, Ubuntu doesn't appear in the Apple boot menu

2014-03-28 Thread Levi Bard
Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu 13.10 desktop amd64 alongside OSX (using the default
choices along with Install Ubuntu alongside Mac OSX) on a retina macbook pro,
Ubuntu doesn't appear in the Apple boot menu (the one that appears when holding
Alt/Option at boot).
I worked around this locally by moving the files from /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu to
/boot/efi/EFI/Boot and renaming grubx64.efi to bootx64.efi , but I'm not sure
if this is The Proper Way.

[Bug 1243897] Re: MacBookPro10,1 brightness setting has no effect

2013-10-28 Thread Levi Bard
I was using 310 in 13.04 (and possibly 304 before that; can't remember)
- in that case, the brightness control worked intermittently for each
suspend/resume cycle. The behavior has become consistent in 13.10;
unfortunately, it's consistently the not responding case.

I can't even get X to start (even in failsafe mode) when I switch to
noveau on this machine - had to boot into rescue mode and reinstall
nvidia-319.

[Bug 1244225] [NEW] Display is unrefreshed/corrupted when opening/closing/switching windows and tabs

2013-10-24 Thread Levi Bard
Public bug reported:

When I switch between windows, or switch between tabs in the same
window, or switch desktops, part or all of the affected windows often
fail to repaint (or repaint and then revert to stale content).
Unfocusing/refocusing the affected window usually forces it to repaint
again (but may then leave another window stale).

It doesn't seem toolkit-specific (happens with xchat, firefox, chrome,
skype, gnome-terminal, ...).

Attached is a screenshot showing an example of corruption after
switching between two tabs in xchat.

[Bug 1243897] [NEW] MacBookPro10,1 brightness setting has no effect

2013-10-23 Thread Levi Bard
Public bug reported:

After upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10, setting the screen brightness has no
effect (either via the hotkeys, Brightness Lock settings, or via
/sys/devices/pnp0/00:07/backlight/gmux_backlight/brightness ).

I'm using nvidia driver 319.32-0ubuntu7.
I've tried Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1 in xorg.conf as
well as the kernel argument acpi_backlight=vendor .

I have the following in /sys:

/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1c.0/:03:00.1/leds/mmc0::/brightness

It does behave in 11.10, though.
If it's not maintained, why is it in the -main package?
Is there a replacement, or did people go back to letting desktop switches be
dull?

[Bug 946609] [NEW] Unfolding the desktop cube corrupts desktop

2012-03-04 Thread Levi Bard
Public bug reported:

Unfolding the desktop cube (Compiz desktop cube plugin, default
keybinding ctrl-alt-down) results in a blank, white unfolded cube, after
which I'm unable to get back to a usable desktop.

Dropping to a virtual console and back appears to work around the issue
once it occurs.
