@jeremie2 Ah, fair enough. Mostly I use Ventoy these days, and once the USB key is formatted with Ventoy, you just copy .ISO files onto it and they automagically appear in the Ventoy boot menu. [Bug 1915152] Re: Installation of Ubuntu Unity 20.10 always fails if there is no EFI partition
Confirmed and reproduced in Xubuntu 20.10 as well. This issue is _not_ confined to Ubuntu Unity and is also present in an official remix. Steps taken to try to resolve it: * updated system BIOS (machine is a Lenovo Thinkpad W500; was on 3.18, now on 3.23, latest) -> no change • tried 2 different flavours of 20.10 -> no change • placed a bootable DOS primary partition (C:), set active, tested OK; no change. • installed Windows 7 Enterprise SP1. No UEFI detected, no EFI partition created, no separate system partition needed or used. Ubuntu Unity 20.04 went on this machine without a glitch. openSUSE Leap 15.2 was also fine. The machine does not have UEFI, as far as I can tell. There is no option to boot in legacy or UEFI mode. The only way I have discovered to install 20.10 was to tell it my DOS partition was the EFI System Partition. This worked fine, installed GRUB into /dev/sda and now it boots. However this has rendered my DOS partition unbootable, and now it is mounted at /boot/efi which is not what I want. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915152 Title: Installation of Ubuntu Unity 20.10 always fails if there is no EFI partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1915152/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am commenting here as this one has at least 25 subscribers, whereas the others have fewer. It seems to be the same problem as Bug #1235864 , Bug #1247468 and Bug #1252121 at least. Furthermore there is no obvious way to file a report against a particular package. The problem occurs in network-manager and restarting that daemon seems to sort it out; however it is visible in nm-applet and it is possibly caused by the kernel. What should we file reports against? [Bug 1095044] [NEW] Compiz crashes at login, every single boot

[Bug 739184] Re: [Libreoffice] Mnemonics do not work in Unity
Confirmed. This was previously a problem with ``lo-menubar'' in 11.04/11.10/12.04. Now in 12.10 the problem has been transferred from the additional/not-installed-by-default ``lo-menubar'' package into Libreoffice's GTK integration and thus this bug now affects everyone. Removing ``libreoffice-gtk'' does effectively fix it, but breaks other things. This is a showstopper bug for some of us who use the keyboard as our primary method of interacting with the apps. It is also a complete showstopper for blind/disabled users who cannot use a mouse or other pointing device. No, the HUD is not an alternative. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/739184 Title: [Libreoffice] Mnemonics do not work in Unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/739184/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 899671] [NEW] Aisleriot Freecell does not report the game number
Public bug reported: When starting a new Freecell game, Aisleriot does not show the game number (the seed value from which the card layout was generated.) All other Freecell games on all platforms I've tried do this, so that you can record when you lose a game and retry it later, exchange hard games with your friends and so on. This includes Win32 Freecell, Windows 7 Freecell, the 3rd party Freecell Plus, the Mac OS X Freecell by the late Alisdair McDiarmid of http://randomoracle.org/ and so on. This is not a bug but a feature request, but I can't find any author or any direct contact for the team to report it. This is the only way I know, I'm afraid. Associated functionality: enter a game number to retry a previous game, as opposed to just getting a new random game every time. ** Affects: aisleriot (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/899671 Title: Aisleriot Freecell does not report the game number To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aisleriot/+bug/899671/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 15442] Re: panels change their position between logins
This still occurs in 10.04 Lucid and 10.10 Maverick. I have just encountered it myself. I had deleted the top panel moved its contents to the bottom one, Windows-XP-style. I decided to revert to the GNOME style. I created a new one, positioned it at the top, and moved the menu, launch icons and clock to it. This worked fine until I rebooted, at which point, both panels revert to the top. If I go into Properties and try to move the task-switcher panel's position to bottom, it instantly reverts to top. If I use gconf- editor to do it, it moves until it autohides, at which point it snaps back to the top again. I'm amazed that in more than 3 or 4 years, this hasn't been fixed! -- panels change their position between logins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/15442 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 370935] Re: [IBM 26723G0] hibernate/resume failure
Koen: that is interesting but I think you must have a different machine to me, as mine does not have an SD card reader. [Bug 350680] Re: IBM/Lenovo Laptops crash when waking up from hibernation
Updated information as of Ubuntu 10.10. Even a fully-updated 10.10 system still displayed the same problem; if the machine was suspended or hibernated, it never resumed. When the system goes into sleep mode, the backlight of the display does not turn off unless the lid is closed or the lid-close sensor button in the hinge is depressed with a pen or screwdriver. However, adding nomodeset to the kernel parameters enables the machine to suspend and resume correctly, including hibernation. Unlike 10.04, in 10.10 the X server starts normally in 1024×768/16M colours and the machine is perfectly usable. I amended the following line by adding nomodeset to the end in /etc/default/grub: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nomodeset I then ran update-grub to enable the change. However, the nomodeset line means that the plymouth graphical loading screen no longer works. It is replaced with a text-based one. In the hope of at least running in the native resolution of the LCD and getting a smoother text loading screen, I added a vga mode parameter to the same line, as follows: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nomodeset vga=792 This not only worked and reset the console resolution to 1024×768, but it also re-enabled the graphical loading screen, which furthermore now appeared with the correct colour palette, removing the coloured fringes that had affected the default install. I then dropped the X screen from 16M colours to 65K colours, which gives a sharp increase in display performance enables me to use dual-head with an external monitor running at 1280×1024. I have documented how I did this in a blog post here: http://liam-on-linux.livejournal.com/20637.html I then amended the GRUB line so that the bootup screen mode was the same as the X one: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nomodeset vga=791 The result is that everything now works: graphical startup shutdown, suspend resume, hibernation, and a fast X display which supports dual- head operation. This workaround is entirely successful for me, but I don't know if it counts as closing the bug. -- IBM/Lenovo Laptops crash when waking up from hibernation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/350680 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am having this is something very like it too, on RC 10.10 final release. I am running an IBM Thinkpad X31. [Bug 370935] Re: [IBM 26723G0] hibernate/resume failure
I hope that the additional information I've added is helpful. The problem still exists in 10.04 beta 2 (current as of today). The machine seems to go into sleep mode when I close the lid, but it never wakes up. On opening the lid, the fans and hard disk start up, the screen backlight illuminates, hard disk activity commences... and then nothing happens. It is unresponsive to keystrokes, the hard disk keeps accessing, and sits there in this state, unchanging, for up to several minutes. It does not respond to any keystrokes, including Ctrl-Alt-Del or the power button. The only recourse seems to be to hold down the power switch for several seconds, forcing a power-off. -- [IBM 26723G0] hibernate/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370935 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
A little further info: As of this afternoon's update, which I saw involved a netbook-launcher change, this problem is still occurring. Since the update of yesterday (15 Apr '10) I now have a graphical boot and shutdown sequence for the first time on 10.04, although early in the bootup, the colours are distorted with the logo, text progress buttons having a green fringe. However, the colour for fonts in the launcher is still black on a dark background. I see that this bug is marked incomplete; what further info do you need from me to make it complete? -- Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 370935] Re: [IBM 26723G0] hibernate/resume failure
I have just also confirmed that problems also still affect hibernate resume in 10.04 as well as sleep (standby) resume. The system appears to hibernate normally - although with no onscreen progress indicators or anything it's hard to say. The sleep LED flashes, there is a lot of disk activity, then the keyboard controller is reset (all keyboard LEDs flash) and the machine powers off. On reboot, selecting 10.04 from GRUB, there is no onscreen indication that it is waking rather than booting, but there is lots of disk activity, followed by the screen flipping into graphics mode. However, only corrupted noise is displayed - a pattern of vertical red stripes - and the system becomes unresponsive. I had to power-off to recover the machine. -- [IBM 26723G0] hibernate/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370935 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 350680] Re: IBM/Lenovo Laptops crash when waking up from hibernation
This also seems to affect my Thinkpad X31 model 26723G0: Bug #370935 in 10.04 beta. It was also an issue on 9.04 and 9.10 in Linux Mint 7 8 (based on 9.04 9.10 respectively). -- IBM/Lenovo Laptops crash when waking up from hibernation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/350680 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ah. I fear it might require similar or identical hardware. Perhaps, at the least, a machine with the same (rather old) ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chipset. I will look for the guest login option. [Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
Thanks for the reply. No, I have not changed any font colours; all was on defaults. I am not sure what the gnome capplet is. I've looked in Appearance and the only font colours selection I can see is under Themes | Customise | Colours; is that where you mean? [Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
I already tried both Ambiance and Radiance - no difference. I am not sure that I have a guest account, but if I can find it or turn it on, I will try that. I have also tried logging in to normal GNOME, which works perfectly and looks fine. However, GNOME makes very sparing use of transparency effects text is usually displayed against a light background in windows and so on. In the netbook launcher, the main window is transparent but shaded darker than the wallpaper, and the highlighted selection is darker still, making text almost invisible. I have desktop effects set to none. I have tried enabling them (in normal rather than extra mode), and transparency in terminal windows of inactive title bars works, but it is too slow to be usable, so I disabled it again. It made no difference to font colours. -- Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 560598] [NEW] Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: netbook-launcher Icon labels section button labels in netbook launcher are appearing in black. I am running Lucid (10.04) on my Thinkpad X-31, dual-booting with Mint 7 WinXP. It is current (`apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade -y` reports 0 available updates.) I have been running it ( updating every time I boot it) since before Beta 1 was officially released. Current version: Linux thinkpad-x31 2.6.32-19-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 31 17:46:20 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux It works it's significantly quicker than before, especially the graphics. I also tried the Netbook Remix launcher. It too works way better than it did in 9.04, where it was unusably slow; previously, since Ubuntu 8.x, I have had to disable DRI in xorg.conf to make X usably quick on this machine. The only snag is, all the fonts are black, which on a dark purple background is very hard to read. I am not sure if this is normal for the netbook remix. Other colours look OK, fonts in Firefox etc. have their normal colours - it's just all the buttons icon labels in the launcher. I've tried changing to the lighter Radiance theme. No difference. [Bug 112108] Re: Window maximizing and minimizing does not place windows back on their original screen
Due partly to this and partly to Bug #112107, I had to abandon Compiz and revert to plain 2D Metacity. I have not yet upgraded my main PC to Gutsy, so I've not tried it in 7.10 yet. My testbed PC is too old to support Compiz and I have had to remove Ubuntu from my notebook due to multiple hardware incompatibilities in the kernel. So I can't yet verify if this problem is fixed in 7.10. [Bug 149884] initial kernel boot parameters are not picked up in installed version
Public bug reported: This bug is the same problem as closed issues bug #8093 and bug #8289. It may have been fixed before - it worked in 6.06 - but it has reappeared and affects the 7.10 beta. My machine (IBM ThinkPad model i1200 Series 1161-93G, DVD-ROM, 320MB RAM, 20GB HD, latest BIOS) needs special kernel parameters to be passed to boot successfully. Ubuntu 6.06 and 6.06-1 worked if I edited the GRUB boot commands and passed the irqpoll parameter. If I did this to enable the machine to boot from CD, the installer picked up the parameter and included it in the installed system. 7.04 and 7.10 beta do not do this. The bare irqpoll parameter is no longer enough; after considerable experimentation, I have found that I now need to enter acpi=force irqpoll for a successful boot, but the installation program does not pick this up and add it to the installed system, resulting in an installation that will not boot. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- initial kernel boot parameters are not picked up in installed version https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149884 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 149884] Re: initial kernel boot parameters are not picked up in installed version
This appears to be related to the problem in bug #31036 as well. I was not changing the VGA parameters, so the resolution to #31036 does not apply. -- initial kernel boot parameters are not picked up in installed version https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149884 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 149884] Re: initial kernel boot parameters are not picked up in installed version
The comment attached to bug #28102 about adding parameters after the terminal -- on the kernel line *may* apply. I can't readily test it; an installation on this machine takes 2-3 hours. I've not seen this documented anywhere else before; perhaps it needs to be more widely known? ** Description changed: - This bug is the same problem as closed bugs #8093 and #8289. [Bug 149892] Re: duplicate parameters in grub boot entry
I discovered this trying to install the 7.10 beta. However, I previously tried and failed to install 7.04 on the same machine as well. I think that the problem I described was why I was unable to successfully get GRUB to boot the PC. The laptop is an IBM ThinkPad i1200 Series model 1161-93G, 20GB HD, DVD- ROM, 320MB RAM. -- duplicate parameters in grub boot entry https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149892 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 149892] duplicate parameters in grub boot entry
Public bug reported: The default kernel entries in GRUB's menu.lst have parameters both on the end of the kernel line and as a separate line. For example, from my installed 7.04 system: [[ title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.20-16-generic root(hd0,8) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-16-generic root=UUID=35065adf-6d54-4af8-bd91-0d0431429c1f ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-16-generic quiet savedefault ]] Note how quiet is on the end of the kernel line *and* on a line of its own after the initrd line. While trying to trace booting problems, I removed the line reading quiet, but still got a quiet boot, as there was a duplicate instruction on the kernel line as well. When I manually added parameters as a new line on the end of the entry, using GRUB interactively at boot time, that said nosplash acpi=force irqpoll, the machine consistently rebooted when I tried to boot. I think this is because my nosplash parameter conflicted with the splash parameter on the kernel line. Should such parameters be duplicated like this? It means that entries must be changed in 2 places to get a successful boot. Conflicting parameters seem to cause GRUB to reset the PC. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- duplicate parameters in grub boot entry https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149892 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 112107] Re: Drag drop between Nautilus windows fails on dual-head setup
I have since tried disabling Compiz and this feature started working correctly again. It thus appears to be a problem with Compiz, at least when running in nVidia TwinHead mode. -- Drag drop between Nautilus windows fails on dual-head setup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 112108] Window maximizing and minimizing does not place windows back on their original screen
Public bug reported: I am running a multihead system with 2 17 monitors, positioned left right. If I have multiple maximized windows, when a window is minimized to the taskbar and then restored - even if this is immediate - then the window does not return to the same screen. E.g. if I have a full-screen window on the left monitor, minimized it, it may reappear on the right monitor. This also occurs when switching between tasks with Alt-Tab - if I switch to an already visible window, it might instantly switch heads. This seems to require multiple maximized windows - at least two. I have not been able to determine if there's a pattern as to which screen windows will reappear on; it seems to be fairly random but there's about a 50% chance, every swap or ever minimize/maximize, that the window will reappear on the wrong monitor.
