[Bug 1009080] [NEW] pulse audio plugin seg fault on 64 bit 12.04

2012-06-05 Thread Lightnin
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Execute Scratch using current VM and pulse plugin (on Ubuntu 12.04, 64 bit
system):
Executing: /usr/lib/squeak/4.4.7-2357/squeakvm -encoding UTF-8 -vm-display-x11
-xshm -plugins /usr/lib/scratch/plugins/:/usr/lib/squeak/4.4.7-2357/
-vm-sound-pulse /usr/share/scratch/Scratch.image
(There is no pulse plugin in /usr/lib/scratch/plugins in my installation
package, so it must be using the one in /usr/lib/squeak/4.4.7-2357)

2. Click Sounds tab, click play icon next to meow. That results in:

Segmentation fault

10273532 [] in SoundPlayer classplayLoop
10262332 Semaphorecritical:
10262240 SoundPlayer classplayLoop
10273228 [] in SoundPlayer classstartPlayerProcessBufferSize:rate:stereo:
10273320 [] in BlockContextnewProcess
Aborted (core dumped)

Note that the installation of the same package on 32 bit systems does
not produce the error (playback and recording both work).

[Bug 966744] Re: resume from suspend leaves me with black screen and a cursor

2012-04-27 Thread Lightnin
Same thing, Precise final, xorg log attached.
Thinkpad X220

Note - if I hit ctrl - alt F2 (or 3) to get to a terminal, login and
then sudo killall Xorg, I can then get back to the login prompt and
login. Not a nice workaround, but a workaround nonetheless.

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working - two syndaemon instances running

2012-04-27 Thread Lightnin
I did a clean install of 12.04, followed by a deja-dup restore of a
backup of my home directory. I then enabled disable touchpad while
typing. Then I began having these symptoms.

Previously, (when I was on 11.10 , from which the backup was made) I
had created a custom syndaemon launcher startup because the normal
disable touchpad while typing didn't work very well (cursor would
still jump sometimes when I brushed the touchpad while typing).

I didn't realize this would persist in startup applications
preferences after the clean install followed by restore. Apparently it
did, and so I got this error - two syndaemons running. Just posting on
the off chance others make the same mistake.

Yes. Although I have since rebooted my machine and now the menus are
working correctly again. So perhaps my machine got into a temporary bad
state after the update.

[Bug 921709] Re: thunderbird globalmenu not working

Can demonstrate failure by uninstalling / reinstalling thunderbird-globalmenu.
Not sure if this is related, but on my machine, clicking the Thunderbird icon
in the unity menu no longer switches to thunderbird.

[Bug 907338] [NEW] Some messages only display subject in preview pane

2011-12-21 Thread Lightnin
Public bug reported:

Some messages only show subject above the preview pane, without the
additional information that is usually present there. Sometimes the body
is rendered in plaintext and contains content from other messages aside
from the one being viewed.

I've rebuilt the mailboxes several times, but it doesn't seem to help.
Attached is an image of the improperly rendered header to the preview pane.

[Bug 871560] Re: No way to disable screen locking after suspend in Gnome 3

For users without much experience, this is a real problem. I'm

perceive the need to login after every sleep as a great annoyance. So I
respectfully ask that this be addressed. Thanks!

[Bug 666956] Re: packages from canonical partner do not show up if use this source is clicked

2011-11-06 Thread Lightnin
Seeing this in fresh install of Oneiric. To reproduce:
Search for skype.
Select use this source.
Authenticate (failed once, but shouldn't matter)
Select more info on skype because install still not an option.
Software center says it can't find skype.
workaround: apt-get update in terminal. Close / reopen software center.

[Bug 885279] Re: Thinkpad X220 fails to suspend after removal from dock

2011-11-03 Thread Lightnin
After reporting this bug I noticed that the DVD drive in the dock in
question was removable. When the drive is removed from the dock, the
laptop can be docked / undocked, and suspend will still work when
selected by menu option (but not from simply closing the lid).

The drive is Model UJ82, Serial Ultrabay Slim DVD Multi IV
Lenovo branding, but says made by Panasonic.

[Bug 885279] [NEW] Thinkpad X220 fails to suspend after removal from dock

2011-11-02 Thread Lightnin
Public bug reported:

Thinkpad x220 will suspend normally when not booted in dock, or booted
in dock but not removed. Once the powered on system has been removed
from dock, suspend fails every time.

There is some potential for hardware damage as a result of this bug,
since removing from the dock, closing, and placing it in an enclosed
space like a backpack or briefcase creates an unsafe situation. Since
the system fails to suspend, it continues to generate heat.

[Bug 780648] Re: Fail to repaint screen when external monitor attached while sleeping

2011-05-19 Thread Lightnin
Done some more looking into this. Turns out it only happens when:
System is booted without external monitor connected, then made to sleep,
connected to external monitor while sleeping, then woken.

If the system is originally booted while connected to the external
monitor, then it can be connected to an external monitor while sleeping,

[Bug 780648] [NEW] Fail to repaint screen when external monitor attached while sleeping

2011-05-10 Thread Lightnin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Steps to reproduce.
1. Put machine to sleep.
2. Plugin external monitor of higher resolution than laptop monitor (via
external VGA port).
3. Wake computer.

Lower / left portions of desktop are displayed properly. Areas above and to the
left of the desktop (that correspond to x,y values greater than the original
screen size) do not repaint properly. They continue to display whatever content
/ application has been overlaid on them. See screenshot.

Possibly related config setting: The computer has been told to turn off
laptop monitor when external screen is present.

[Bug 620529] [NEW] Show main window after launching Rhythmbox

2010-08-19 Thread Lightnin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

After launching an application, the normal expectation is that its
window should appear in the foreground. On my Ubuntu 10.04 system this
is not the case when opening Rhythmbox (0.12.8) . The only change is
that the icon appears in my panel, which I must then click to cause
Rhythmbox to appear.

This breaks many conventions of application behavior, and could be
confusing for new users who may not have noticed the appearance of the
icon. Even for those that do, a common need after opening an
application like Rhythmbox is to play something. So it seems as though
it would be best if it appeared in the foreground after being launched.

Many thanks to all those who have contributed time and energy to this
project.

[Bug 579980] [NEW] electricsheep disables screen power off settings

2010-05-13 Thread Lightnin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: electricsheep

After installing electricsheep ( 2.7~b12+svn20091224-1ubuntu1 ) on
Lucid, power management settings to turn off monitor after x idle time
were no longer heeded. Other users of electricsheep have reported
similar problems:

http://community.electricsheep.org/node/572

Doing a complete uninstall of electricsheep seems to resolve this issue.
But it would be better if the installation of electricsheep did not
disable or override the system's power management settings.

[Bug 563164] Re: squeak should accept additional command line parameters to be passed to squeakvm

2010-05-12 Thread Lightnin
This would be very helpful for the Scratch project as well. We include
our own plugin that does not ship with the VM, so it would be great if
we could tell this script where to find our preferred Plugins directory.

[Bug 579619] [NEW] PulseAudio sound plugin causes choppy playback running Scratch

2010-05-12 Thread Lightnin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: squeak-vm

When running Scratch with this VM (1:3.11.3+svn2147-1ubuntu1 ) on Lucid, sound
playback using the vm-sound-pulse plugin is choppy, as is sound recording.
To test:
1. Install squeak-vm and Scratch
(http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Scratch_1.4_Download )
2. Run Scratch using this VM, rather than the one that is currently bundled
with it:
squeak -vm-sound-pulse /usr/lib/scratch/Scratch.image
3. Select Scratch Cat sprite. Click sounds tab, play button on meow.

The current version of Scratch bundles its own VM and pulse plugin that works
well (just run scratch without specifying this vm to test). The source code
for the vm-sound-pulse plugin that Scratch uses is available here, as is the
binary:
http://my-svn.assembla.com/svn/scratchonlinux/trunk/scratch/src/plugins/vm-sound-pulse/

[Bug 517663] [NEW] Sprite transparency problems in Scratch 1.4 when run under compiz

2010-02-05 Thread Lightnin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: squeak-vm

Sprites appear transparent when running Scratch 1.4 with visual effects
(compiz) enabled using the currently available version of the VM
(1.3.9.8-3ubuntu3). The bug causes the Scratch cat and other sprites to
be see through ( see attached image ) Note that it's possible to see
text on windows underneath the Scratch window through the
representations of the icons - but not clearly.

An updated version of the Squeak-vm that includes a fix for this was recently
submitted to Debian:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-squeak-devel/2010-January/23.html

If this can be updated in time for inclusion with Lucid Lynx, Scratch (
http://scratch.mit.edu/ ) can depend on it rather than bundling its own
version of the squeak-vm.

[Bug 496989] [NEW] Changing date interval in save report dialog does not affect report

2009-12-15 Thread Lightnin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hamster-applet

In Time Tracker 2.28.0, running Ubuntu Karmic.
Show Overview. View Month. Click Save report icon. Change Date Interval
fields manually to a period of time spanning across two months (note that you
cannot change dates using the Calendar interface). Report generated will be for
original time scale, not changed by Date interval changes.
Ideally, this should permit you to choose say a 3 week period ending in
November and going into December.

Thanks for making a great and very useful piece of software!
