[Bug 1969284] [NEW] mixed ports/archive setup fails to update source list correctly

2022-04-16 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
Public bug reported:

$ uname -a
Linux daisy 5.13.0-27-generic #29~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 14 00:35:28 UTC
2022 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux

$ grep main /etc/apt/sources.list
deb [arch=arm64,armhf] http://us.ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ focal main
restricted
deb [arch=amd64] http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ focal main restricted

when do-release-upgrade -d is run to upgrade to jammy, all the sources
get changed to us.ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports, even the amd64 arch
sources which do not exist on ports, only on archive. This results in
this 404 in apt update and the upgrade bailing:

[Bug 1968360] Re: jammy daily won't accept EC2 publickey (suspect cloud-init failure)

2022-04-08 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
I've checked all of the following jammy daily images, and all of them
fail to correctly install the EC2 metadata supplied SSH key such that it
is possible to ssh ubuntu@host after startup.

Amazon AWS  us-east-1   jammy   com.ubuntu.cloud.daily:server:22.04
arm64   hvm-ssd 20220323ami-0320e0e27a2e26467
Amazon AWS  us-east-1   jammy   com.ubuntu.cloud.daily:server:22.04
arm64   hvm-ssd 20220405ami-028c98d9274336455
Amazon AWS  us-east-1   jammy   com.ubuntu.cloud.daily:server:22.04
arm64   hvm-ssd 20220406ami-0cb3473d91f8f239d
Amazon AWS  us-east-1   jammy   com.ubuntu.cloud.daily:server:22.04
arm64   hvm-ssd 20220407ami-03c980393156217bb

Both of these do install the SSH key for ubuntu@ from AWS metadata fine:
Amazon AWS  us-east-1   impish  21.10   arm64   hvm-ssd 20220309
ami-0a4b1fdc2301bf1f1
Amazon AWS  us-east-1   impish  com.ubuntu.cloud.daily:server:21.10
arm64   hvm-ssd 20220319ami-09ce10196abcc5dc4

[Bug 1845820] Re: arm64: loop on boot after installing linux-generic-hwe-18.04-edge/bionic-proposed

2021-11-08 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
FYI: SolidRun Honeycomb/ClearFog LX2K users depend upon this feature as
well (ARM_SMMU_DISABLE_BYPASS_BY_DEFAULT=n); despite this original issue
being filed for Cavium boards, it's still true for more recent hardware
as well.

Thus, please don't remove it without compatibility testing. Thanks!

Doesn't repro with 5.11 HWE builds, so I assume it's safe to not debug
this and let it go invalid.

2020-12-17 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
Reverted mutter to focal-updates stock, rebooted into 5.8.0-33, repro'd
again :( so we're back to the hypothesis that there's something wrong in
5.8.0-33. Sorry for the noise, I'm trying to debug this as best as I
can.

Never mind, I think mutter 3.36.6-1ubuntu0.20.04.2+lizf1 is busted,
please disregard :)

on the plus side I have a reliable trigger.

[Bug 1886059] Re: gnome-shell crashed with assertion failure "!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost" [xcb_io.c:260]

2020-12-17 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
Started seeing this recently with 5.8.0-33 after a few minutes logged
into either Wayland or X11 session, regardless of other activity on
system, but does not repro once I downgrade kernel to 5.8.0-31.

Gnome shell version 3.36.4-1ubuntu1~20.04.2 has been the same
throughout. Mutter likewise on 3.36.6-1ubuntu0.20.04.2 throughout. I did
recompile mutter with pipewire support, no other changes,
(https://launchpad.net/~lizthegrey/+archive/ubuntu/freedesktop/+sourcepub/11932034
/+listing-archive-extra), it was working fine, but is now triggering
this.

able to clone my PPA and rebuild from source on amd64 if you like.

This issue also seems to be happening for Renoir with 5.4.0 kernel
series, when DXVK/vulkan is used. I will try drm-tip and report back.

[Bug 1888410] [NEW] amdgpudrmfb fails to init on SolidRun Honeycomb

2020-07-21 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
Public bug reported:

https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/linux-
pci/patch/20200421162256.26887-1-a...@kernel.org/ needs to be backported
into the Ubuntu 5.4 kernel train in order for amdgpudrmfb to
successfully initialize. Otherwise, the last line seen on framebuffer is
`fb0: switching to amdgpudrmfb from EFI VGA` and then the boot freezes.

I have tested this as a patchest against the 5.7 kernel series, and will
also patch & build against the Ubuntu 5.4 kernel series.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added:

[Bug 1816497] Re: [snap] vaapi chromium no video hardware decoding

2020-07-19 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
The problem also might be that I'm running Chromium inside XWayland
rather than natively on X11. I'll try popping over to X11 to see whether
it works...

Can we try pulling in https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic-updates/mesa-
va-drivers instead of the base bionic package pulled right now by the
https://launchpad.net/~chromium-team/+snap/chromium-snap-from-source-
enable-vaapi build config (which doesn't use Bionic-Updates)?

[Bug 1816497] Re: [snap] vaapi chromium no video hardware decoding

2020-07-15 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
As was pointed out by @jon-nettleton, the intel parts are not required
to build, and only are used for intel onboard graphics, which
necessarily won't be present on ARM64. Is it possible to make it
conditional to build those parts depending upon architecture?

https://launchpad.net/~lizthegrey/+snap/chromium/+build/1043865 is a
build where I simply deleted the intel-specific parts for now.

Oddly enough, you do include it in the snap definition as of May 13...

```
build-packages:
  - libc6-dev
  - libgl1-mesa-dev
  - libwayland-dev
  - libx11-dev
@osomon: I see linux-libc-dev is installed in the snap build process but
not libc6-dev. I know that normally libc6-dev is included in build-
essentials when building .deb files, but is it possible that it isn't in
the default set of things for a snap build environment?
This is a bug in Focal prerelease.
Third-party packages like Steam currently appear to Depend: upon python,
but nothing Provides: python, only Conflicts: python.
I believe that python-is-... should Provide: python so that packages
that expect to use /usr/bin/python aren't surprised.
Canarying both 4.4.0-1040-aws #43-Ubuntu and 4.4.0-144-generic
of these. Should have results by Monday -- it was tripping every ~24h
consider it resolved with the newer kernel train.
[Bug 1823216] [NEW] [trusty] 3.13.0-167-generic repeatedly trips kernel paging request BUG:
2019-04-04 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
Public bug reported:
While trying to diagnose a problem with getting a kernel BUG: Bad page
map in process retriever (retriever is the name of our serving binary),
causing the serving binary to crash, we tried upgrading from
3.13.0-121-generic to 3.13.0-167-generic and instead started more
regularly tripping a different bug that hardlocks the system when we
attempt to stop & restart the affected process.
We are running Trusty on AWS in i3.xlarge instances.
