[Bug 85449] Re: [feisty] nvidia-glx 1.0.9xxx causes graphical glitches, artifacts and random system crashes on an integrated GeForce2 MX
Juliano, This is a closed source driver. Ubuntu developers have no access to the source so I'm afraid nothing could be done here. You should try the fixes described above. If nothing works for you, head to the Nvidia's support forum. They will be able help you there. -- [feisty] nvidia-glx 1.0.9xxx causes graphical glitches, artifacts and random system crashes on an integrated GeForce2 MX https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/85449 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 85449] Re: [feisty] nvidia-glx 1.0.9xxx causes graphical glitches, artifacts and random system crashes on an integrated GeForce2 MX
I have been making some tests and it turns out that my mobo seems to be causing the issue. Set AGP to 1X fixed the problem.
[Bug 38915] Re: Logout proces hangs
I'm having a similar problem (just like Muriloq described) but my system is not locking up or freezing. The shutdown process continues and the pc is successfully turned off. The options quoted above do any good for me. It might has something to do with Usplah, but I'm not sure. If you are wondering, NO, this doesn't happen during the boot process. Go figure huh?!. Update: I'm using the binary package from Nvidia's web site now and I'm getting the same errors that I described previously. The Sitsofe comments are right. This problems should be reported directly to them (Nvidia). "It so happens that this file existed (it was still there!) even though I had already removed the package "nvidia-glx-new" that had been installed at first. [Bug 106217] Re: hidden file controlling NVIDIA driver does not get removed when switching from nvidia-glx-new back to nvidia-glx causing X not to start due to mismatch of versions
I'm getting the same error message that was described above. After a reboot, my system keeps refusing to load X again. Thanks to the dubious package description, I installed the nvidia-glx- legacy. This driver won't work for my card and the nvidia-glx (which is the right one) now won't(?) load. I removed the nvidia-glx-legacy package but the message keeps showing up every time that I use the 'nvidia' driver in the device section of xorg.conf. I'm using the 2.6.20-16-generic kernel. Are you sure that this has nothing to do with this bug? -- hidden file controlling NVIDIA driver does not get removed when switching from nvidia-glx-new back to nvidia-glx causing X not to start due to mismatch of versions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106217 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this problem too. I had to manually remove all nvidia modules and reinstall (using dpkg, since apt-get nvidia-glx require an old module/kernel version) the nvidia-glx & restricted-modules again. [Bug 108451] Re: [Edgy] gnome-ppp doesn't kill wvdial properly
Some comments about Gnome-ppp. I'm using a smartlink modem as described above: Subsystem: Smart Link Ltd. Unknown device 5459 Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- http://alexit.wordpress.com/2007/04/19 /installare-modem-smartlink-su-ubuntu-feisty-704/. I _ALWAYS_ had some kind of difficult/issue to configure soft-modem on Ubuntu. This time around, Gnome-ppp is driving me nuts. Problem 1: Gnome-ppp quits from dialing in the middle of the process at every first run. When I try to reconnect, the message "Can't open modem" or similar appears. Cancel won't do any good. To free the modem I have to manually restart the modem using the sl daemon (sl-modem-daemon restart). Once I do this, gnome-ppp is able to connect without problems. I must say that I never had such problem on Kubuntu (kppp) and I doubt that this has something to do with the driver. Problem 2: If for some odd reason the connection is dropped (e.g. noise, another call) and you try to reconnect, gnome-ppp will give you the "Can't open modem" error. Again, the only way to fix this is restarting the modem. Cancel will do nothing. This problem does not occur in other situations (for instance, when you open a page with too much elements on it and the connection is dropped). Problem 3: Connection is not reliable with some sites. Can't say why, but when loading a site with too many items, the connection just drop. This is not very frequently but is definitely an annoyance. Whatever, this has something to do with the Linmodem driver and is not related to Gnome-ppp (but you could take a look anyway). This problem also happens with newer SL 2800 modems and doesn't matter if you are running the modem in a higher IRQ (3, 4 ,5...). This is what I get from problem 1 and 2: GNOME PPP: Connecting... GNOME PPP: STDERR: --> Ignoring malformed input line: ";Do NOT edit this file by hand!" GNOME PPP: STDERR: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.56 GNOME PPP: STDERR: --> Cannot open /dev/ttySL0: No such file or directory GNOME PPP: STDERR: --> Cannot open /dev/ttySL0: No such file or directory GNOME PPP: STDERR: --> Cannot open /dev/ttySL0: No such file or directory GNOME PPP: Unable to KILL wvdial process!
