[Bug 1665941] [NEW] Wine requiring older version

2017-02-18 Thread Luis Fernando Flores Oviedo
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 16.04
$lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release:16.04

I'm trying to run - install ies4linux

I'm getting this:
Your wine does not have wineprefixcreate installed. Maybe you are running an
old Wine version. Try to update it to the latest version.

when trying to start ies4Linux. I did install wine 2.1 from the
winehq.com site, the thing is I cannot run the IES for Linux

the error I get in the console is:
IEs4Linux 2 is developed to be used with recent Wine versions (0.9.x). It seems
that you are using an old version. It's recommended that you update your wine
to the latest version (Go to: winehq.com).

[Bug 1422637] Re: Broadcom BCM43142. Monitor mode not working.

2015-02-21 Thread Luis Fernando
Hello! I also have the same hardware, and I have this same problem.
There were some attempts to discuss the error in this report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/broadcom-sta/+bug/1289996 (now
with status "invalid")

With some tricks, in Ubuntu version 12.04 to later, works. Since Ubuntu
version 14.04 is not possible to avoid this error. I returned to the
investigation of this error, which already has a long time.

Had to change the language to English (my native is Brazilian Portuguese) to be

[Bug 1289996] Re: 14e4:4727 [Asus 1225B] echo 1 > /proc/brcm_monitor0 returns Input/output error

2014-11-09 Thread Luis Fernando
Ah. Sorry. I've been following this error since March, as it is exactly
the same fault that I have, and I suspect that they are failures in the
**general** code.

I've written about a possible solution (see above), it no longer works
in later versions of the kernel ...

Not detracting from the work of others, but rather in the __general__
code (ubuntu patches? Upstream?) Is wrong, and that I have tested and
exposed here.

The work-around has worked for me and worked some more we follow the
error. We do not share the same hardware model.

If that is indeed something unique, hardware-specific Asus 1225B and I
have to send another bug report for my Broadcom card, I understand and I
will send another bug report.

(my English is not good, any offense / misunderstanding is
unintentional)

Greetings!

2014-11-09 Thread Luis Fernando
I'm using the latest Ubuntu 14.10,
kernel-source-bcmwl 6.30.223.248+bdcom

The problem has worsened. Now if I try to run the command ...

sudo bash -c "echo 1 > /proc/brcm_monitor0"

... the whole system freezes and I have to hard-reset my laptop.

My wifi-card is: 06:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation
BCM43142 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)

b43 not offer free support for my wifi card, and I'm forced to use this
non-free module.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 974993 ***

Ah, just found that the problem is not really, gtk2-engines-qtcurve, but the

If I install gtk2-engines-qtcurve with --no-install-recommends it works.
So, this issue can be closed.
Thanks for the support.

Anyway, here's the output:

[Bug 1378796] Re: gtk2-engines-qtcurve is not multiarch

2014-10-08 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 974993 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974993

The bug #974993 says to be fixed and released, but the effect, in 14.04 is that
both i386 and amd64 versions of gtk2-engines-qtcurve cannot be installed at the
same time.
When attempting to install the i386 version, the amd64 is set to remove.
This doesn't happen with other packages like gtk2-engines-murrine or
gtk2-engines-oxygen, which can both be installed in both archs at the same time.

[Bug 1378796] [NEW] gtk2-engines-qtcurve is not multiarch

2014-10-08 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
Public bug reported:

I'm using Kubuntu 14.04 64-bit, with qtcurve (1.8.16-2) as my engine (for qt
and GTK2 apps).
The problem is that I cannot apply the same style to 32-bit applications (like
skype), because when attempting to install gtk2-engines-qtcurve:i386 it tries
to remove the 64 bit version of the package.
Please, make gtk2-engines-qtcurve multiarch.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 1289996] Re: echo 1 > /proc/brcm_monitor0 returns Input/output error

2014-03-09 Thread Luis Fernando
I found a solution for this error: take the source, replace buggy Ubuntu
patch (0009-add-support-for-linux-3.10.0.patch) with patch from
ArchLinux AUR.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Download driver source (6.30.223.141) from Broadcom

2. DO NOT APPLY LINUX 3.10 UBUNTU PATCH. Apply http://ix.io/9DV
patch only.

3. Compile the driver. make

4. Testing the driver. sudo rmmod wl ; sudo insmod ./wl.ko

5. Enable monitor mode. sudo bash -c "echo 1 > /proc/brcm_monitor0"

6. Test monitor prism0 device. sudo airodump-ng prism0

Works for me. I have a "Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)"

[Bug 865389] Re: Appmenu-gtk should not blacklist eclipse

2013-09-25 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
I had to give up patching libappmenu.so because since Eclipse 4.2 (4.3 also)
crashes constantly when using appmenu.
It works well while it is up and running, but suddenly it crashes silently.
With the patch (that is, without Eclipse being blacklisted) Eclipse crashes,
say, 10 times in a work day. Without the patch it runs fine for hours.
So, there is something new on the 4.X platform that doesn't plays nicely with
appmenu

[Bug 1046608] Re: Genius webcam do not work in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-10-13 Thread Luis Fernando
SOLVED!
HowTo repair:
1. download latest gspca drivers (e.g. http://moinejf.free.fr)
2. apply this patch included on comment
3. compile: make; make install
4. replug the webcam
5. done!!

I have experienced and found the patch reading the "solutions" for gspca very
old drivers.
This Sonix chip (0c45:6027) works identically to (0c45:6019, Generic Sonix
OV7630).
The patch is very simple and only force sonixb to try to treat Genius Eye as
Sonix OV7630
I am tested on my PC and works!

** Patch added: "Patch include support from sonixb module. Very basic."

[Bug 1046608] Re: Genius webcam do not work in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-09-06 Thread Luis Fernando
apport information

** Description changed:

The Genius Eye 310 webcam is not recognized by Ubuntu

  "lsb_release -rd" message:
  Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
  Release: 12.04

  Ubuntu 12.04 with "linux-image-3.2.0-29-generic-pae" kernel

  dmesg message:
  [13440.956029] usb 7-1: new full-speed USB device number 5 using uhci_hcd

  lsusb message:

-- What I expected to happen
A device on / dev/video0, accessible for applications using webcam

  --What happened
/dev/video0 does not exist, gspca (2.14) does not seem to know how to operate
the device, and ignores it.

Compiling the gspca driver in version 2.15.18 does not recognize it, but the
camera "works" with the driver partially sonixb (sonix RGB) (which does not
belong)
The camera should work with the driver compiled sonixj (sonix jpeg), but does
not really work: the driver recognizes all without problems ...

[Bug 1019654] [NEW] Notifcation bubbles are not positioned correctly when the secondary monitor is wider and below than the primary monitor

2012-06-30 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
Public bug reported:

I have a setup where notifications are shown in a LCD monitor with a resolution
of 1280x1024, and the laptop monitor (of 1366x768) is positioned below it.
Notification bubbles are position in relation to the laptop monitor width, and
not according to it's target monitor width, as shown in the attached screenshot.
The result is that part of the notification is not visible.

[Bug 865389] Re: Appmenu-gtk should not blacklist eclipse

2012-04-15 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
I've been using the trick in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdbusmenu/+bug/618587/comments/46
to edit the binary file, changing 'Eclipse' to something else for several weeks.
I can confirm that the menu works, but there is the issue that most shorcut
sequences are not displayed on the corresponding menu items, but the shortcuts
do work.
I prefer having the consistent menu bar without shortcuts (working with HUD)
than have 100% correct menu representation but inconsistent with other
applications.
Unrelated: I always install lo-menubar to have the global menu in libreoffice
too, even if some shortcuts don't work, in favor of greater consistency.

[Bug 966701] [NEW] Window decoration background and buttons should look exactly the same as the panel for maximized windows

2012-03-27 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
Public bug reported:

In Unity, the top panel is the window decoration for maximized windows, and
should look exactly like the window decoration for non-maximized windows.
They have some small differences:
* There is a solid background between buttons in non-maximized windows, but not
in the panel
* The background gradient in non-maximized windows is different from the one on
the panel
* The button for maximize / restore is a bit different (it may be by design, as
they are different states)
I'm attaching a picture that shows some of those differences.

[Bug 618587]

2012-03-12 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
For now, it seems that the problem is in libdbusmenu (Unity side).
Eclipse is blacklisted in a binary file in libdbusmenu, so the menu is always
on the application. There is no friendly way to remove it from the blacklist,
but there is a workaround which involves editing the binary file here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdbusmenu/+bug/618587/comments/46
I've reported https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdbusmenu/+bug/890294
to remove Eclipse from the blacklist, but no one did it so far.
I think the best way to help here is to test the workaround with all menu
functions and insist on that last bug report I've mentioned, maybe even sending
a patch for it (I think it should be an one-liner).

[Bug 890294] [NEW] Remove Eclipse from the appmenu blacklist

2011-11-14 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
Public bug reported:

Currently, appmenu has a hardcoded blacklist for Eclipse.
This was probably done because of previous Eclipse versions.
However, with Ubuntu Oneiric and Eclipse Indigo, when removing Eclipse from the
blacklist (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdbusmenu/+bug/618587/comments/46)
menu works without glitches.
So, please, remove the blacklist for Eclipse in appmenu, as the latest versions
of both seems to play nicely.

Now, the "formal" part:
1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu:
Ubuntu 11.10
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
libdbusmenu-gtk4' or by checking in Software Center:
0.5.0-0ubuntu3
3) What you expected to happen:
Eclipse menu should appear in the global menu, like most applications
4) What happened instead:
Eclipse has a separated menu bar

2011-07-05 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez

Are you sure you are not running Unity 3d? It's probably the Unity 2d version.
This bug (as stated before) is an upstream bug which broke composition in the
GF 7200/7300/7400 series.
Unless they fix upstream, nothing will help us.
I'm experiencing this bug using Kubuntu 11.04 as well.

[Bug 613119] Re: Eclipse menu does not render correctly in unity bar

2010-10-13 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
Just to make it clear to others: This "fix" is actually a workaround for not
using the global menu in eclipse.
To do that, before running eclipse, run export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0
You could also create a script to launch it:

#!/bin/bash
export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0
_path_to_downloaded_eclipse_/eclipse

Things are working now: when enabling dual head, compositing is disabled
(presumably by the intel driver, not KDE).
Can be marked as resolved by upstream.

[Bug 559039] Re: X Crashes when enabling second monitor

2010-05-21 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
I have created a bug report for the intel driver, as this seems driver
specific: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28137
My first attempt was to report on KDE, but they stated (with reason) that the

[Bug 559039] Re: X Crashes when enabling second monitor

2010-04-19 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
A colleague has a netbook with intel video, and he has lucid ubuntu netbook
remix installed.
If he plugs an external monitor with dual head, the effects are automatically
disabled.
This is way more elegant than just crashing :-)
I don't know if it's an ubuntu-specific or compiz feature, but KDE should also
suspend compositing automatically when a second monitor is used in a dual head
setup, at least for models which don't support it.

[Bug 559039] Re: X Crashes when enabling second monitor

2010-04-18 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
Actually, following Murphy's law, I found the cause minutes after the last
post...
But, at least I found how to reproduce it :)
I use KDE. If I disable compositing (shift+alt+F12), then the second monitor
works without being mirrored.
With compositing enabled, X crashes, and happens as first reported.
On my previous post, the battery was low, so KDE disabled the effects. As a
result, I thought it could be related to resolution.
But actually, it's related to the desktop effects being enabled or disabled.

Now, the real question: is this a limitation of the intel hardware /
driver of not being able to handle dual head with compositing or is this
a bug? Could someone using gnome test whether dual head works with
compiz (desktop effects) enabled?

[Bug 559039] Re: X Crashes when enabling second monitor

2010-04-18 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
New info: it worked with an external monitor with 1280x1024 resolution.
The first monitor i've tried used 1680x1050, and perhaps was pushing the
netbook's onboard video card too far...
As there are some new updates, I'll try again connecting with the 1680x1050
monitor, but I'll only be at that place tomorrow, and will report here the
result.

[Bug 559039] Re: X Crashes when enabling second monitor

2010-04-09 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
Happens for me too.
If I plug the external monitor and set the netbook lcd to mirror the external
monitor, things work ok.
However, if I set it to be on the left side of the external monitor, x crashes.
Using kubuntu lucid with all updates, on a netbook with an intel video (00:02.1
Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03))
After that crash, I'm set to 800x600, and if I try to restore the native
1024x800 resolution, X server crashes again.
I'm attaching the dmesg, lspci, lshw and Xserver.0.log files.

[Bug 504583] Re: Touchpad On/Off hotkey ACPI event not translated to an input event on ASUS A6Rp

2010-04-08 Thread Luis Fernando Planella Gonzalez
I think my problem is the same as this.
I have a netbook which is reported as H80CH model (using dmesg | grep asus) in
Kubuntu Lucid (beta 1), and for me, the hotkey event is: hotkey HOTK 006a.
The event is catched by /etc/acpi/events/asus-touchpad by the following line:
event=hotkey (ATKD|HOTK) (006[ab]|0037)

However, I saw the /etc/acpi/asus-touchpad.sh script was not handling my
touchpad, as it's an Alps, not Synaptics. I had to rename that script and use
this as a replacement:
#!/bin/bash
[ -f /usr/share/acpi-support/state-funcs ] || exit 0
. /usr/share/acpi-support/power-funcs
getXconsole
DEVICE="AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint"
PROPERTY="Device Enabled"
QUERY=`xinput list-props "$DEVICE" | grep "$PROPERTY"`
VALUE=${QUERY#*:}
if [ $VALUE == "1" ]; then
xinput set-int-prop "AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint" "Device Enabled" 8 0;
else
xinput set-int-prop "AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint" "Device Enabled" 8 1;
fi
exit 0

So, I think that the bug is the acpi event handler. Ah, I also had to add the
acpid service to start on boot: update-rc.d acpid defaults

Found it too. The workaround is to install the following addon:
https://addons.mozilla.org/pt-BR/firefox/addon/4851
But this should not be necessary, as most basic users won't know how to do it,
and Brazilian Portuguese is WAY different from Portugal.
Please, fix it before lucid final.
