[Bug 1309606] Re: Required plugin not found Videos multimedia feature: SMB protocol source
This bug still occurs in my system: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS. Cannot open any video from a smb share without the video player complaining that it cannot find a plugin to 'SMB protocol source'. Locally they play fine tough. Still didn't debug enough to know what is causing this problem, but it seams to me that the wrong url is being passed to the video player from nautilus. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309606 Title: Required plugin not found Videos multimedia feature: SMB protocol source To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sessioninstaller/+bug/1309606/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1434226] [NEW] kded5 suddenly grabs all the available memory and crashes
Public bug reported: After upgrading to vivid kded 5 started randomly crashing. There were also severe delays as my disk was permanently spinning like some huge amount ao data was being read/written. The problem seems to be that without any warning and aparent cause, kded5 goes from using 204MB of memory to using all of the available memory and then some swap and finally crashing. This seems to happen at least once every half an hour. The latest updates to frameworks 5.8.0 does not seem to help. ** Affects: kded (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1434226 Title: kded5 suddenly grabs all the available memory and crashes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kded/+bug/1434226/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1238678] [NEW] Double suspend to ram and system malfunction after 2nd sleep.
Public bug reported: After one or two successful suspend-to-ram cycles the system wakes up and immediately goes back to sleep. After this double suspend, some systems like rfkill, for example, will only work after a reboot. Steps in which I can consistently reproduce the bug: 1. suspend to RAM; 2. Wake up the computer; 3. Repeat 1. and 2. two or more times (sometimes is one cycle, sometimes it's two cycles and I even went 4 cycles without incidents only to have this behaviour on the 5th.) The double suspend behaviour seems to happen more consistently if a long time (a day or so) goes by between the suspend and the resume. [Bug 1111397] Re: Executable files do not launch in 13.04
Hi, For me this is a bug, the fix should be applied to the original package, so 13.04 and future ubuntu installations will not suffer from this. There is no sense with behavior 'View executable text files' selected by default for a regular user. Shellscripts are commonly used to launch other executables, so a regular user will expect that double clicking on a given application executable (being script or ELF) will launch an application instead of gedit showing 'strange programming mambojambo'. I will give you an example: here in Portugal, we pay our taxes using an official application that is downloaded from a goverment site. The application is developed in java and it worked flawlessly with ubuntu. The application is packaged inside a special script file that will auto-extract the application content to a selected installation dir (by the way the application launcher is also a shellscript). So a regular user when double clicking this script, a gigant script will be opened in gedit! This really doesn't make any sense from a regular user prespective. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/397 Title: Executable files do not launch in 13.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/397/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 986724] Re: Lid state changes not detected on Samsung NP900X3B
Hi, I'm glad to confirm that close on lid is working for me now, with 12.10 fully updated (with proposed repositories enabled), on a NP900X4C model. . Kernel 3.5.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 13 17:48:01 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. I have also upgraded my firmware to the latest officially available with the samsung firmware upgrade tool: P04AAC. Don't know exactly when it started working, since only now I tried to suspend it closing the lid and for my surprise it worked like a charm. :) I have also done a little script to check the lid state, before suspension and after resume: while true;do cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state state.txt;sleep 1;done; And I could see the state change: state: open state: open state: open state: closed state: closed state: open state: open state: open -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/986724 Title: Lid state changes not detected on Samsung NP900X3B To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/986724/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Did you try to press the reset button of laptop ? You must use a needle to press that internal switch inside a little hole under the laptop ( laptop unpowered, then use the power cord to start it otherwhise will not start). At least some other samsung users that were having acpi issues, could manage to unbrick the laptop. (But please follow samsung's instructions if any. Re: [Bug 986724] Re: Lid state changes not detected on Samsung NP900X3B
For me, the switch to windows is not an option, but I understand that. Ohh Well, I just sent an email to samsung US support alerting them to these issues, It's really a pitty that linux is having this kind of problems with this incredible laptop. Hopefully I was not the only one and samsung will take care of this. What I recommend to you is that, like me, try to alert samsung support, they already have linux kernel developers and with enough emails maybe they will look to us, even not being legally obligated to. I sent an email to 'webhelp...@digitalriver.com' (I know...but at least maybe US samsung support is better than the one in my country). It's really a pitty, otherwise ubuntu flies and shines running in this beautiful machine and I really need ubuntu for my work. Even with this annoying bug I will continue to use it. By the way, I'm also looking closely at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44161 and no luck at the moment. It seams that it is an ACPI firmware bug, and if so, we can only hope that samsung will take care of it. However, my laptop is 1 week old and after only 3 or 4 charge cycles my battery now reports 99.3% when it is fully charged. kernel version: 3.5.0-17-generic (64 bits) ubuntu version 12.10 Sorry to say, I have given up! I deleted the Linux partition, given its space back to NTFS, and reinstalled the Windows bootloader. This is completely silly. It takes me back many years to the time of kernel 2.2 and it was a struggle to get things to work. Nowadays, it is normally far easier to install a modern distro than it is to install Windows. I do not know what has gone wrong here. A while ago, Windows was terrible - BSODs and non-existent security. Now, Win 7 is actually quite good, so the main reason to struggle to install Linux has gone away. I also do a lot of remote admin of servers, but again, the presence of Cygwin and it X server means I can now do this on a Win 7 machine, almost as easily as I can from a Linux machine. The rest of the time, I use LibreOffice to earn money, watch programmes on MythTV to relax, read mail using Thunderbird and browse the web using Chrome or Firefox: all of which work well on either platform. I would not dream of moving my critical servers from SUSE, but the Samsung laptop works just fine with Win7, and it does all I want it to, so with that OS it will stay, for the time being.
