Well, it is obviously pretty good thing that GTK+ QT theme uses the font settings from GTK. The problem is that antialiasing properties set by gnome-appearance- properties are not shared between QT and GTK even if GTK+ theme. So, even though GTK+ theme sets the right font, it can look very ugly. I've noticed the same problem with [Radeon Mobility 7500] [1002:4c57], compiz doesn't work by default but after setting SKIP_CHECKS=yes it works without any hardware specific issues. It looks like patch doesn't force greedy heurestics in 2.2.1 (no info in Xorg.0.log). I've glanced at code and probably neither EXA_MIGRATION_GREEDY nor I830_USE_EXA is defined.
